Description: Set in an ancient alleyway dating in Marrakechs Jewish quarter, Palais Gharnata restaurant possesses a rarefied luxury that comes only with the passing of time. Everything here speaks of grand antiquity, of North African exoticism and beauty. Handcarved cedar woodwork, ornate sculpture and carvings, handsome waiters dressed in loose white cotton, trays elegantly poised above their right shoulder its a magical world. A formal dining space, Palais Gharnat specialises is Morroccan cuisine. Begin perhaps, with a pastilla of tender pigeon and crushed almonds in a soft aromatic dough, as a bottle of fine local vintage is opened, and the aroma of spiced lamb curls up inside your nose. The best tables are on the mezzanine, overlooking the set-piece central fountain.

We were taken to this restaurant on the first night of our holiday and were seated at the side of the immense, beautiful room. Apart from one other table across the floor, there were no other customers! It was very dark and we had difficulty reading the menu. The waiter offered 2 prices and we chose the food in the cheaper. It tasted good although there was so much that we could not eat it all. The bill/check came immediately without our asking for it and we were horrified to find how high it was, 800 dirhams including our beer. Our dismay was heightened as credit cards were not accepted (no notice of this in advance) and most of the currency we had, was used to pay. Supposing we had not enough cash?

The location is very good. charming atmosphere. The staff was courteous and helpful. Moroccan Salad beautiful but literally sucks the other dishes. Couscous with meat for dinner and we were seven people had two pieces of meat. If you do not want to stay hungry I suggest you to choose a better alternative.

A beautiful palace and location, service was excellent and live music and dancing.
Food is set menu and includes wine for 550dh, food was not the best we had but tasty especially the aubergine tagine, chicken was terrible. We ordered lots of starters and asked for more which we're brought, we also drank lots of wine and enjoyed the belly dancing.
A place to go in a group.

I can give one point for the location, a great palace, very impressive. The service was attentive and friendly. Food is plenty but of simply terrible quality. Moroccan salads as a starter were ok, nothing special. We had the Tajine as a second, very bad meat quality and poor seasoning. After that the Couscous, unimaginative, badly presented and no taste. Desert... well, I have no idea where in this sweets culture they could go so terribly wrong. 550 Dirham is a bold price for this. We were in Marrakech for one week and went to a lot of very very good places with stunning local cuisine. Instead of Gharnata, go to Jemaa el Fna and eat in the food stalls. The food is way better there. Oh and for the show. Yes there is one.

We were here on a quiet night, and were surprised by how good the food was. The floor show was very limited and mostly directed to a party of businessmen, but the musicians were excellent and the whole experience really fun.
