Our tour guide recommended Al Baraka for pigeon pie, a Marrakech specialty. Beautiful outdoor seating. Very clean, lovely ambiance. For sure a tourist stop. Delicious pigeon pie combining sweet and salty flavors in crisp layers of phyllo dough. A bit pricey but for our group we ordered off the a la carte menu 2 pies, 3 meat tagines, couscous, drinks, and oranges with cinnamon for dessert for about $11 per person.

For vegetarians, the selection is limited, but the salads for starters were particularly delicious with varied flavours, from sweet to savoury, and textures. Main courses consist mainly of tagine or couscous, the lattr vegetarian option a bit bland, but I was assured the meat was good. Desserts are delicious and not too sweet. But the real pleasure is eating in this beautiful setting with huge tables and highly atttentive service. There is often live music and even the odd belly-dancer, the latter perhaps not being culturally apposite but enjoyable nonetheless. It may be a good idea to book ahead in busy holiday times.

Place was deserted at 8.15. Not sure why. Food was good but not brilliant. Belly dancer a bit OTT when there's only 4 tables occupied. Waiter was very good.

Close to the square, with limited set menus, the salads are ok, but the brouates aren't as good as elsewhere. It is tagines only, and they are pretty standard fare. As lovely as oranges with cinnamon is, for the price I would expect a bit more choice. Wine choice is ok. The belly dancer couldn't have looked less interested in her task....

We thought that this quiet garden restaurant would be good. Certainly an attractive venue off the busy main square. But, what a disappointment. The fixed menus were unexciting and the food bland and unappetizing. Obviously pre-cooked to be churned out for the unsuspecting tourists. The obligatory belly-dancer was toe-curlingingly bad and to cap it all, the waiter was unnecessarily blunt in asking for service on top of the bill.

All in all, a disappointment on our otherwise wonderful trip to Marrakesh.
