“Great Culinary Find”
Reviewed 19 July 2012

We were staying at the Four Seasons but we looking to venture out and try true local cuisine. I think there was a mix up as to whether we had booked the main town restaurant or this one as when we arrived they did not have our reservation. This was not a problem as they were very welcoming and it was to our advantage we got this Al Fassia. All the staff were friendly. The food was excellent and very reasonably priced. Pre dinner drinks, starters of salads and pastilla, mains of kebabs and chicken tagine, followed by home made ice cream. Throw in a very reasonable red wine and all for £80. Excellent value for some really tasty food. Surroundings are lovely and I'm sure it would be nice to stay here if you consider the other reviews. Oh and the single carrot starter is, as one reviewer has put it, sublime.

The main Al Fassia in the new town was closed in July, but the Agdal based one was open. The starter of 15 small salad plates was really lovely - especially a single cooked carrot...yes, I don't know how they had cooked it or in what spices, but it was the essence of carrot! May seem strange to pick on this small dish, but it is what we have talked about most since. The 24 hour cooked shoulder of lamb was also really good and worth ordering in advance. The spicing was delicate and the flavour more subtle than we had expected.

Let me start by saying that Myra & Sophie are two of the friendliest, most competent and most accommodating people I have ever met. And that's from someone who has worked in the Irish hospitality industry for over 5 years.

Myself and my girlfriend (both in our early 20's) spent 10 days here in June and loved every day we spent here. Upon arrival we were greeted with the traditional Moroccan mint tea and were told that due to our longer than average stay, we were being upgraded to a suite free of charge; much to our delight as you can imagine. The hotel itself is gorgeous an is kept impeccable by the excellent staff. It is quiet and was the perfect place to relax, catch some sun and read some good books. The staff are always readily on hand to get you towels for the sun beds, bring you something to drink or simply just to ask some advice on where to go for dinner (although the restaurant attached the hotel was the best food we ate on our entire holiday).

The location of the hotel was perfect for what we wanted. It was about 5 mins by taxi to the Medina (old city) and about 10 minutes to the airport. You could easily walk to the Medina but due to our laziness and the high heat we opted for taxis everytime costing on average 40 Dirham each time (approx €4). The hotel itself is located in the newly developed area of Marrakech, which is full of new hotels, resorts and a few restaurants. We found the location ideal as it was so nice to go back to a calm (not to mention air-conditioned) atmosphere after spending a day in the chaotic Souks.

The food in the hotel was the best we had anywhere in Marrakech. Breakfast was served whenever you wanted it (literally) and was varied day to day while staying similar i.e. you might get melon one day instead of oranges, or different types of pancakes. The hotel served some basic lunch dishes such as salads, sandwiches etc. but we tended to be out during the day and normally ate in the Medina.
The restaurant attached to the hotel was exceptionally good. We ate there almost every night and never had a meal that was below excellent (be sure to try the lamb tagine with caramelized onions and tomatoes!). The restaurant was obviously very well known as it was almost always full and as a result we made sure to book a table every night we knew we would be eating there. A good meal for two including a bottle or two of wine would rarely cost more than €50, which for the standard of food i found to be very reasonable.

While in Marrakech we knew that we wanted to do some excursions such as going into the Sahara but werent quite sure what to do or what was available. After just mentioning this to Sophie in passing, she came back to us a few hours later with and entire sheet made out of all the most popular excursions available, exactly how much various packages cost and what each excursion entailed. After speaking for a while about it we eventually decided to go on 1 night stay in the Sahara with some local Berber's which was unbelievable. Thank you again to Myra and Sophie for organizing this for us.

Next time I go to Marrakech I will definitely be staying here again.

Thank you again to Myra and Sophie for making our stay so memorable.

Excellent stay with friendly and helpful staff. The breakfast was very good, especially by the pool. The staff even served breakfast very early 4:30AM for an early morning excursion. Highly recommend this hotel for comfort, service and location (not too far from Medina area).

My husband and I stayed at this hotel at the beginning of May for a total of 4 nights. We loved it. If I could rate this place more than 5/5, I would give it a 10.

The manager, Ms. Myra and her team of staff were very professional. The services they provided were very personal. Ms. Myra made sure that she had a chance to welcome every guest. Everyone always greeted us with warm smiles. Our favorite was Sophia. Because of Sophia, we had the trip that we always dreamed of. She saved us from a major heartache. To make the story short, we lost reservation with our tour company for the 3 day 2 night Sahara desert tour which we booked by ourselves. Since it was late in the evening, and we were suppose to leave next day, I was on the verge of tears as this was suppose to be the highlight of our Morocco trip. Sophia immediately got on the phone and started to call around tour companies in town to try to book a tour for us. After half an hour on the phone, she found a tour for us. Not only she made sure that the tour company would go to all the sites the our original tour company would go to, she also asked the tour organizer to take extra care of us. Sophia really went above and beyond to make sure that we weren't disappointed. Yes, the desert tour was everything we hoped for. Thank you, Sophia.

We used the hotel as base for excursions in Morocco. We checked in and out several times while going to the desert and Fes. Each time, we were welcomed back by the staff like family friends. On the last check in, Ms. Myra upgraded us to a bigger room with a sitting room to make our last days in Morocco were more comfortable.

The hotel itself is very clean and comfortable. It is a nice blend of traditional decoration with modern amenities. From the moment we walked through the big doors, we felt like we entered an oasis. It was lush with palm trees and calm. The courtyard water fountain was very tranquile. The rooms were very spacious. The bathrooms were hugh, shiny and spotless. It had everything to make your stay more comfortable and convenient: turndown service, bathrobes and comfy slippers. There was always hot water for the shower.

The breakfast by the pool was a really nice way to start your day. The breakfast was plentiful and delicious. We loved the homemade yogurt. So smooth. Also, breakfast is served at anytime. On the day of our desert excursion, we were served breakfast at the gorgeous meeting room at 6 o`clock in the morning. There is also the famous Al-Fassia restaurant on site. We had dinner there almost every night.

There is a modern shopping mall nearby with Carrefour. It is great if you want to stock up on water and snacks. If you are tired of tagine, there is a nice varieties of food in the food court.

Although some people thought the location was a negative aspect, we actually thought it was a plus. It is in the newer part and modern part of the town. Yes, it is about 45-50 minutes of leisure walking distance from the medina. However, after spending a day in the hectic medina, we were thankful that the hotel was away from all the chaos. The walk back from the medina was a nice way to unwind. It was very safe. The sidewalk was very broad with rose gardens and water fountains. There were couples and families with kids hanging around the gardens in the evening. They were all very friendly. It was very pleasant.

My husband and I truly enjoyed our short stay the Al Fassia Aguedal hotel. We would recommend this hotel wholeheartedly for its excellent service, quality and value. It is truly a perfect place to stay while in Marrakech.

Room Tip: All rooms are very nice and spacious.

The wife and I booked the Al Fassia for our honeymoon after reading the reviews on here. We stayed for a week and thoroughly enjoyed our stay.

It is approximately 10 minutes from the airport and just 5 minutes from both the new and old town in a 40DIR taxi (£3). The rooms are large, elegant and spotless. The bathroom is very spacious with one of the best showers I've seen in a hotel. There is a bath as well for those who prefer it.

The staff were more than helpful and very friendly throughout. The manager, Mira, was very welcoming and came and said hello each morning at breakfast, which I thought was a nice touch. Her team at the Al Fassia were brilliant. The pool is lovely and was kept very clean at all times. Towels are provided and laid out for you on the sun loungers between you leaving the room and arriving at the pool (ie less than a minute!).

The breakfast is fresh, healthy and very nice and gives you the perfect start to the day. Lunch can also be ordered around the pool or in your room.

Wifi is available around the pool and in the rooms, although it was a little temperamental in the room.

As you will probably note, I don't have a bad thing to say about the Al Fassia. A very good 4 star in Marrakech and perfectly placed outside the hustle of the medina (we were very glad not to be based there). There is also a very good restaurant insite and a shopping mall 2 minutes from the hotel should you need a supermarket (Carrefour), a pharmacy or some new clothes! It is a relatively small hotel and lacks the scale of a typical chain but we found this refreshing and enjoyed having the pool ourselves most of the time.

We would have no hesitation in booking here again and are already considering it for next Spring.

Booked here for a week after reading Tripadvisor reviews and so glad we did! It really is an oasis of calm after the chaos that is the medina - yes, it is at least a 40 minute walk into the medina but for us (with a five-month-old in tow), it was ideal as it was so relaxing. It's a beautiful looking hotel and exceptionally clean with excellent staff - all so friendly and helpful yet professional. Great value too. We were upgraded to a suite upon arrival (huge, airy room) and the items promised to us (i.e. a kettle and a cot) were there, even though we'd requested them a few months beforehand - no reminder necessary! Taxi transfer arranged for us also very reliable and efficient. The Carrefour is a stone's throw away and handy for bottled water, etc. The food in the restaurant is also fantastic - the lamb tagine with cameralised onions was so incredible, we ate it three times!! Wonderful staff, food, setting and ambience and not a bad price. Pool is also lovely (especially eating breakfast by it - yummy pancakes!). We would stay here again if we ever returned to Marrakech.
