“Great facilities for kids”
Reviewed 10 May 2011

We selected this hotel primarily with our children in mind. They are 8 and 10 and for them it was total heaven. The weather was mixed but they were able to have fun all day as there was a 5 a side football pitch, 2 tennis courts, table tennis, games etc. The pool is large and there is also a heated indoor pool . We all thought the food was very good quality. The children loved the breakfasts as fresh pancakes were on offer. There was a wide choice of meals at lunchtime and in the evening with plenty of healthy options - freshly grilled fish, salads galore as well as moroccan specialities. Cleaners and gardeners were constantly at work and the hotel and grounds were immaculate.

What a wonerful experience at this hotel. Service could not have been better.
The manager and his team should get 5* for the way they run the hotel.
Staff were always happy and cheerful and the food could not be faulted.

Well done !

We stayed here because we got a really good bargain as the hotel was new, also worked out cheaper than staying in England!

The Hotel looks very grand and the rooms are big and spacious, with good bathrooms. The place is very clean, and the pool area was always spotless.

Staff at reception were always helpfuland we just exchanged Stirling for Dirhams as we needed it. The evening entertainment was hilarious as it was so cheesy.

There is also a free shuttle service to and from the Souk.

The only downsides to this place were:

Having to get up at 6am to get a sun lounger & umbrella. It got to 5e degrees on some days that we wre there so you definately need the shade. However this means an early get up or you don't stand a chance.

The food was edible, but got very boring after a week. I wouldn't get excited about it.

We did a trip to the Atlas Mountains which was fabulous and well worth a trip out, and also ventured into the Souk. However we go so hassled trying to walk round we left after about an hour as people didn't seem to take 'no' for an answer and would even follow you from place to place which wore very thin.

If you want a chill out lazy holiday by the pool I'd recommend it.

We stayed at the Riu from 29th April – 6th May and overall we were disappointed. After reading all the rave reviews on here I thought we were going to something special.
The food is the worst all inclusive I have experienced from a top branded resort such as Riu. I am a vegetarian and the vegetarian ‘corner’ consisted of bowls of vegetables literally a bowl of carrots, courgettes and cabbage. I was ill the second day we were there so lived on soup and bread for the week. There was a good selection of alcohol and the wine was nice.
The rooms were nice and clean although we did have a problem with Mosquitoes having to kill about 20 every night before we went to bed. No one else we spoke to had this problem however our room was near the vegetation at the back.
We were slightly worried about the smoking situation after reading reviews on here however felt this is over exaggerated as it wasn’t that bad at all. I think we are just used to pubs not smelling of smoke. Compared to Tunisia the cats weren’t a problem as there were only a few!
The pool area was nice and on the days we did have sun the big beds were easy to get and always lots of beds available with shade if needed. The pool was too cold to swim in which is disappointing. Even on the hot days it was still too cold.
Because the weather on the first three days was poor we visited the spa which was really good – one of the best back massages I have had! The indoor pool was also good, busy but that was because the weather was poor.
We were unlucky with regards to the explosion as the trips to Marrakech were cancelled, we did however go on the Atlas 4x4 trip which was amazing. Our guide was fantastic and the hospitality at the berber village was outstanding – we felt embarrassed that only us and two other couples tipped! The toilet was an experience haha!
If you have booked this hotel don’t panic as it isn’t all bad at all. I just felt there was something special missing and compared to other hotels we have stayed at this just didn’t quite compete. We were unlucky with the weather and the explosion and perhaps it would have all been a bit brighter if we could have left the hotel and had nice weather!

I must say the hotel staff were lovely, the room very large although on arrival we asked to be changed from a ground floor room to a first floor, which they did. The rooms are very dark and if you were on a ground floor you would need to keep the curtains pulled at all times, apart from the fact I think women on there own feel safer on a first floor or above. Although the first two days were very sunny, the pool being so large was freezing, the indoor pool was full of unsupervised children throwning plastic furniture into the pool, which made it impossible to swim. There is plenty of food to choose from, although it is a shame that the Italian and Morrocon resturants are still a buffet style setting, and it was a shame that there was no tea and coffee making in the bedrooms as it was quiet a hike to the rooms, nor soft drinks, the fridge was empty. Unfortunately due to the bomb and bad weather we were confined to the hotel for the last 4 days, and there was nothing to do except read. Omar was a great gentleman always found us for a chat a couple times a day was full of imformation about his country and a joy to talk to. The lack of imformation after the bombing was very poor, we had actually left the souk a few minutes beforehand, and had also seen a demonstration on the way back to the hotel and had to look on the goverment web site for imformation about safety, which did not advise trip, The Marrakesh experience I was looking for did not happen, this had nothing to do with the hotel, staff or location but mainly to do with the weather and bombing.. As mentioned in previous reviews we had to check the day before to see if we could have late check out, fortunately we could until 2pm, if we paid for the pleasure, otherwise it was 11am, and when your flight is not until the evening this could have proved to be a very uncomfortable day.. The hotel was good, but I have stayed in better, perhaps in different circumstances and better weather it would all have seemed a lot brighter.

We stayed in the Riu for 7 nights from the 29th April -6th May.
The transfer to the hotel is really good at just 20 minutes. Upon arrival we were greeted by the entertainment staff and check in was very prompt.
The room was really nice too with plenty of room. The room was cleaned everyday we stayed which was great.
The weather for the first 4 days was terrible but the second half of the week could not be faulted at all.
Like other people have said, the pool is freezing. However when it is as hot as it was the last few days, the cold water was a welcome relief and would advise anyone to go in as once you were in there it was fine.
Breakfast was a real disappointment compared to other Riu hotels I have stayed in. The fruit selection was virtually non existent along with most other sections. When arriving in the breakfast hall in the morning it was often hard to find a table which was either set or clean. Some of the staff in the morning were great but some were absolutely useless.
Lunch was always pleasant with plenty salad and fresh fish. The same can be said for the main restaurant in the evening.
It's easy enough to book into the other two restaurants for the next night by doing so in the main restaurant. The Moroccan was ok however there was not a great selection. The Italian was really nice.
The bar staff we found to be really rude and on a few occasions they refused to serve at about 11.45pm in the entertainment bar even though they were open until midnight. Also note that the cocktails do not really have much alcohol in at all.
Other reviews mention smoking to be an issue. I do not smoke and I'll be honest in saying that I think some people have exaggerated a bit as it was not bad at all really.
The cats are a real pain...everywhere and always begging for food. Often they would keep us awake at night when crying.
I was expecting really great things from the other reviews but admit that I was a little let down.
We went into the old town on one of the rainy days and although I am pleased I have seen it, I would not fancy going back. It didn't help that being two young females we attached a lot of attention and it was quite scary. We managed an hour before going back to the hotel.
We both had treatments in the spa within the hotel and would not really recommend it. Over priced and not very good at all.

This was a belated honeymoon for me and my husband, we arrived and were greeted by the great travel reps, we didn't see them again however there was no need as the hotel staff were just brilliant, after we had our greeting cocktail the staff took our cases to the room which was spotless. each day the room was dressed and cleaned and cute animals made on the bed. there were English channels on the TV which is good. the food was the best i have ever had on all inclusive. Pizza, Panis, salad soup for dinner and a great choice on an evening. would recommend the Moroccan restaurant especially for the sheep's brains!!! the entertainment staff were what made this holiday even better, they are great fun around the pool and do a different show every evening, the evenings are quiet (jan 2011) but with glens vodka and Gordon;s gin they were pretty fun nights. would recommend to every one! i still have my RUI t shirt for the gym!
