On arrival at Manchester airport for check in I realised booking this trip was a big mistake - large extended families with young children surrounded me and I realised I had might as well spent a week on a British council estate......take my advice, if you want a 4* platinum holiday you do not want to be staying here.

Positives

1. The hotel rooms are clean and are spacious with a good size balcony.

2. We requested a quiet room and this is what we got.

3. The shuttle bus is useful.

Negatives

1. Food - the food is served in a canteen - this is not acceptable for 4* platinum. You have to serve yourself, even in the italian and morroccan themed canteens.

The food consists of pizzas, dried pasta dishes, chips and randomly a full roast dinner!! - They are clearly catering for the masses and are providing food that they think people would like to eat. I however would like to eat food from the local area.

There are various salad dishes that are present both at lunch and at dinner (I suspect the leftovers from lunch are tarted up and re served for dinner.) The food is very bland and if you are used to going out for nice meals you will be very disappointed, it reminded me of school dinners.

There are way too many flies on the dishes, especially the salads which puts you off wanting to eat anything from that counter.

2. Reception staff - the staff on reception are just rude and disinterested in any queries you may have, The late checkout option is non existent.

3. Pool area - music is played for alot of the day, why is this necessary when people are either reading or listening to their ipods? It is probably on to satisfy the hoards of undesirables drinking beer as I am wandering to breakfast.

The other reviews which regard this hotel highly evidently have lower expectations, I feel that Thompson should not be marketing this hotel as a 4* platinum, I would rate this hotel 3*.

Having said that, if you are the sort of person that spends holidays getting sun burnt by the pool whilst guzzling alcohol all day and eating cheap food - go ahead and book, this hotel is made for you.

Stayed at the Rui Tikida May 9th for a week with my two daughters. The hotel is pleasant with lovely grounds and the staff are very friendly, especially the restaurant and entertainment staff. Watched the water polo nearly every day and the entertainment guys are really funny. The pool is quite cold when you first get in but once you're in it's lovely! The bedrooms I felt were quite basic for a 4 star+ but quite adequate. Food is okay, the sweets are good. Sunbeds could be a problem if you were later than 9am reserving them, most people have their favourites so try to reserve yours by 8:30am before you go to breakfast, it's the only way! If you have a late return flight you can reserve your room until 6pm on the last day, just go to reception at 9am and ask, you will have to pay £40 to do this though, but we all felt that it was really worth it. The only real issue we had was the smoking, people are allowed to smoke everywhere except their room, the restaurant and the entertainment lounge. Consequently the bars, reception areas, outside table areas were unbearable. You cannot avoid it, when you need to go to the bar or walk to the hotel shop, reception, or even laying on your sunbed by the pool. I know the hotel is advertised as 'smoking areas allowed' but I have never been to a hotel where it has been a problem like this before. This unfortunately for me would be a main factor for not returning to this hotel but if you are a smoker you'll be fine.

Room Tip: ask for a pool view room

Just got home after a week staying at this hotel and we're missing it already!
The room was lovely and a good size although must admit the mattress was a tad too hard.
The food was non stop and selection good, the visit to the 2 a la carte restaurants is a must - yummy! We used all the facilites in the hotel apart from the spa and were impressed with what was on offer. The 2 pools are great although not heated so brace youself as you get in! The free complimentary bus into Marrakech which runs daily was brilliant as hotel out of town and taxi's would have been costly if had to pay to go to and fro all the time.
Staff were friendly, polite and helpful and nothing was too much trouble for them and the maids who cleaned the room daily would leave towels, bed linen shaped into bows or hearts which was a really nice touch.
An excellent hotel, paricularly as we didnt feel we paid a lot of money for this trip. Would definitely recommend this hotel.

Booked this hotel after my friend went last year. She was so impressed she wanted to return so I went along with her. Everything was great and amazing value for money. Food was varied and I can recommend the omlettes and pancakes at breakfast. Moroccan and Italian restaurants were both excellent too! A lot quieter from the main restaurant and a more intimate feel. It was my birthday while we visited and on arrival in the Moroccan restaurant we were shown to a table with a bottle of bubbly and scattered with rose petals. I was then serenaded by 3 waiters with a birthday cake. It was a lovely touch and we had a brilliant evening. Drinks were easily available, both non-alcoholic and alcoholic and of a reasonable quality. All the staff were excellent, very chatty and friendly. The Manager and Assistant Manager were also visible during the day walking around chatting to residents which I thought was nice. Have stayed in other places and have never even seen the Manager. The Manager's Cocktail Party is also great with nibbles and free flowing bubbly. Entertainment is a bit dodgy but in an endearing way as you get to know the staff over the week and they seem to turn their hand to dancing and singing etc in the evening! Got the shuttle bus to Marrakech City Centre one morning. The Souks and Medina is an amazing experience and we weren't too moithered considering we were two women. Having a mint tea in one of the cafes looking out onto the square was a highlight, although it is absolutely manic. Managed to avoid the snake charmers and the monkeys though!!! It was a welcome relief to get back to the tranquility of the hotel which seemed a million miles away from where we'd been! As we were leaving we were already thinking of what time of year to come next year!

Back from tikida palmeraie just this morning .
Not really got any major negatives to put on here , very happy with amenties overall
Rooms , Big and tidy , some a little from the main complex
Food , easy to find something different to eat be it lunch or dinner .
Breakfasts , nice omelettes and the usual cereals cheeses etc .
Themed Restaurants , never tried the italian as in the same place as where lunch was served , the morrocan however was a separate place and although self serve was very very nice , went here 3 times in total , just book the night before
Shuttle bus , only used this once , just book the previous day and you should get seats for there and back , lat bus back now 8 pm.
Pool and bars , fantastic huge clean pool , never had trouble getting sunbeds even after 10 am in the morning , theres hundreds of them , if the weathers nice and sunny which it was last week the waters very pleasant once in the pool.
pool bar fine and just behind it near the table tennis there is self serve hot drinks plus cold drinks and draught beer.
Entertainment , these guys try real hard so give them a break , theres a show everynight so let your hair down and go with the flow , its a laugh , if not just sit in the main lobby or bar and relax , spoke to a couple on the fantasia night who were staying at tikida gardens who said they had no entertainment other than a pianist everynight !!!!
Overall a great place to relax after doing the sights of marrakech , staff very good and always smiling , try tip em a little they dont get the best of pay and just enjoy , we did !!

Stayed at this hotel for 2 weeks in Decemer 2010 and had a fantastic holiday!
The hotel was clean and well-kept, there were always maids and gardeners seen tidying up around the place.. Rooms were simply furnished but clean and comfortable and the bathrooms were large, especially if your travelling with teenagers! 2 sinks was a definate bonus!
Although the pool was cold as it was not heated, the pool area had some fantastic seatings areas, perfect for relaxing by the pool. Food was well cooked and presented and there was plenty of variety. The lamb tangines were especially yummy!

The hotel laid on a free shuttle bus service to the centre of marrakech, perfect for those with families who want to stay out of the hustle and bustle but still have that link. If you are looking to spend alot of time in marrakech centre then it may be better to stay a little closer.

Overall a fantastic experience and we will definatly be coming back!!

Being confined to virtual house arrest following a terrorist bombing in the town center should have been a great platform for the hotel to look after its guests. Instead and despite the hotels' shuttle bus and all tours being cancelled, the hotel made no extra effort to entertain people. The food is dreary and uninspiring and with only one place to eat at breakfast and lunch, it is mass dining akin to Butlin's in the 1960's with hundreds pawing over the food at any one time. The hotel were also very clever in their recycling objectives....whatever didn't get eaten at lunch, came back disguised as something else at dinner. The wait to be served for drinks at the pool bar could often be >10 minutes and on an evening, the lobby bar was always found to be smoke filled (not the best environment for a supposedly child friendly hotel) What entertainment that was laid on was poor and several activities promised around the pool during the day, weren't followed through either because the staff couldn't tell the time, or be bothered. This only left scrabble and a couple of other board games that could be hired from pool kiosk and after 6 days of playing scrabble the best word I came up with was"shameful" How appropriate !
