“Great holiday service.”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 30 August 2012

A 4 star hotel with 5 star service. The hotel offers peace and quiet within striking distance of Marakesh. Food and service is excellent. The staff cannot do enough for you. Rooms are big and very comfortable. The pool is a little crowded. which is a shame, as there is more than enough to expand in the extensive landscaped gardens.

The only problem is that smoking is allowed throughout the hotel. This spoils the bar areas.

Spent a week here at end of July and found the Hotel to be first class.
Rooms were spacious and clean.
The hotel grounds were lovely and the pool was massive with plenty of room for guests in and around it.
Staff were realy pleasant and could not do enough for you.
Food was good with lots of choice and good quality, the only slight let down was. as seems to be with all buffet style meals, the food not being piping hot.
This was a relaxing holiday so we only went into Marakech one day but it was worth it to experience the old town.
Would certainly stop here again.

The effort was simply mind blowing! gotta go back gotta back. The only thing i could fault was the air con in the rooms, they need to be cooler, colder. The air con didn't cool the room as cold as i'd like it. Oh and the Thomson rep Chris wasn't well received by any guest i spoke to. The Riu crew were all brilliant, they couldn't do enough for you. God bless ya'll

Excellant attention to detail. All the staff are superb from the front desk, to the house keeper, the kitchen staff and the entertainment. Very clean and specious rooms. High quality decoration which complemented their culture. Good variation of food, all high quality with options of other restaurants on site. Evening entertainment at the hotel is very good, no need to leave the hotel. Bike quad and Atlas Mountain in a 4x4 is well worth doing. Silver Club in new town is well worth a visit for a classy night out where you will feel safe and comfortable - dress to impress. Be careful, pool is cold :) Hotel runs a bus service every hour to Marrakech market which is worth a visit. No need for taxi. Would visit again.

We came here on our honeymoon and the hotel itself is really nice and staff very friendly. However few days into the holiday I was struck down with sickness, very bad diarrhoea and stomach cramps. It seemed to be much more than just 'holiday tummy' which can be expected from foreign countries and when my husband went to speak to the thompson rep he was told unusually a lot of people had filled in sickness forms for the same thing which they don't normally do. It did mean at least 3 days I was unable to leave the room and when I could it wasnt enjoyable and I still was unable to eat properly. we also missed pre paid and planned thompson trips which was a shame.

The hotel was (until I got sick)amazing and the grounds were very clean and rooms very spacious, the pool was gorgeous and massive and it never felt crowded in there, just the usual sunbed manics who got up at god knows what time to reserve their beds, but we always found beds when we needed to. I would have recommended this hotel before I fell sick, but as I am convinced it was the food and it was more serious that just a 'holiday tummy' and from a riu 4* Hotel I would expect more care to be taken from the food. I know lots of people felt the same from speaking to some others who were also sick.

Overall amazing hotel but the pros have very unfortunately been clouded over by the illness.

Where do I start .. Once wee arrived in Marrakech we had quite a bad experience with my partners suitcase going missing in the airport then once we got back to the hotel wee got a text saying they had found it could we collect it before 12 am which wee had to get a taxi out of our own money at £40 to go get the suitcase, then once we got back to the hotel to unpack we found his suit case had been robbed which they had took 2 burberry polos, 2 Ralph Lauren polos, 1 pair of Ralph lauren shorts, a full bottle of Chanel aftershave which was in his toiletries bag and best of all 2 packs of ankle socks from primark ! Bearing in mind he had a combination padlock on it which looked as if it had been untouched so god knows how they got into his case, the blue tag that was on his case was removed as well, also my padlock had been unlocked but nothing taking out of mins so my advice would be don't take any gd clothes and padlock your case twice !

Apart from the horrible start to our holiday arriving at the hotel was a pleasant surprise the hotel was gorgeous we were greeted by cocktails, our cases taking to our room, quick check in the restuarnt was still open wen wee arrived so wee got something to eat which was great as wee arrived about 9pm at night !

The bar - the staff are brilliant they can't help you enough and you get a great laugh with them. One thing I didnt like though was the bar manger, he treated his staff terrible he didnt like them talking to you , ano they are working but its still nice to get a chat with them as they work so hard and for some reason the manger took a right dislike to us, one of our group asked for a bottle of water from the bar at 12.30 am and the member of staff that got us it, got shouted and balled at for giving it to us which made us leave the bar as he was so loud and aggressive.. He mainly worked in the main bar in the lobby he was the only damper on the bars! In the bar at the lobby you can get olives nuts and popcorn while you enjoy a nice drink which was a nice touch, the drink was nice, cocktails weak. - the bars all close at 12am sharp so I would recommend you order lots of drinks before then and get a bottle of drink in the airport for the room. The lobby bar is more quite with plasma tvs playing sports the other bar is where the entertainment was held after the entertainment was finish it was a better bar with good music and stayed opened till about 12.30 am ( drinks stopped at 12am sharp) the only other down fall is that the bars close at 12am it would be great if they opened later. The best bar man was Amine he was so lovely, and Khaled was a waiter he was so funny ! The bar staff were just great !

The rooms - massive rooms, spotless, clean towels everyday and cleaned every day, two 1L bottles of water everyday, hair dryer, mini fridge, digital safe, small plasma with eng channels which was great, can't hear the other rooms, 2 wardrobes, loads of coat hangers, extra pillows, one of the nicest rooms I've been in. Only complaint would be the air con that could have been better as its such a warm country. Our rooms were 4103 and 4104I think they were defo the best view and locations on the grounds.

The grounds - beautiful grounds it is immaculate at night there are frogs everywhere they don't come near you though, and security is about at night as well

The hotel - gorgeous hotel loads of space and free wifi in the lobby which was a great place to go chill wen it got to warm

The restuarnts - There are 3 restuarnts one buffet - which has everything you will never go hungry the food just gets repeated after about 7 days but a couldn't say anything else they could do its just home comforts u start to miss, breakfast - fruit, any kind of egg , toast , yoghurt , salad , all kinds of teas like green teas etc.. Milk and coffe they have everything ! Lunch - pizza , pasta , chips , panni , soup , loads of salad , u can make your own baguette and they will toast it. Only down fall at lunch is there is only one juice machine which gets busy so a extra one of them would make a massive difference
The other two restuarnts are italian and morracan there both lovley ( just make sure you book them )

The pool is amazing and you always get a bed and if u cant ask the pool boys and they will get u some , but for beds where u want I would go get them about 8 am

There is a shop in the reception which is really expensive if you out side the hotel there is a supermarket about a 20mins away which is cheaper and the crisp are so gd ! Tip - take a bag as they don't give you carrier bags as its like a cash and carry

Tips - trips

Outside the hotel is nothing it's more a realxing hotel were you stay at the hotel, wee did go out though to the hotel la rennansie ( that's not the correct spelling ) its called the sky bar which was fab so chilled and the cocktails where amazing and you can get brand drinks like grey goose , bud bears etc .. Cocktails come in about £6 but there strong and a great size beers come in about the same and u get appetisers for free like olives and that. You can also get a shiska pipe there think that was about £10 I would highly recommend going here and the view is amazing. A taxi to here is about £12 and if u get your taxi drivers card the reception will call him to come back and collect u.

Wee done the quads with thomsons which was 2 hours and about £65 for both us, that was a gd day out just take cloths and shoes u are prep eared to bin after words as you get so dirty

Wee took £400 for 11 nights and came back with £150 you could actual go and spend no money ! Just take English notes and exchange at reception, keep all receipts and just exchange wat u need as you can't take there currencies out of the country.

Theres also "new marrakech" which has a McDonald's, Zara, accerioze and more shops like back home oh and a KFC taxi here is also about £12

Taxis - receptions call them for you, always confirm the price before getting in and you can arrange for them to collect you. Security at the front gate take your room numbers which I found quite gd for your saftey

The souks - I personally wasn't a fan but you can't go and not see it, it's defo a experience of a life time! I just didn't like the animal crulety it was heart breaking. You get a free shuttle bus from hotel which is great

And girls don't worry what u wear in the hotel they don't mind at all but wen out I would recommend maxi dresses just so you are covered .

Think that's everything

Over all I loved this hotel and Marrakech I would highly recommend going, it's defo a chilled out hols but you can jazz it up there is plenty to do its upto you wat you make of it.

Hope this helped

Room Tip: Wee had a pool view think it was number 4103 was defo the best rooms higher floor.

we have just had the most amazing 14 nights holiday in this fantastic, warm and friendly hotel. our party consisted of myself, hubby, 2 children aged 20 and 16, and my sons fiancee, 19. We all agreed this was one of the best holidays we have ever had, and we have been to some great destinations in the past few years including florida and cuba, so we had high expectations. This hotel exceeded those and i can see why it won trip adviser 2012 award.

We travelled with first choice, our flight was on time, only 3 hrs 10 mins so we decided not to purchase a meal, and actually you dont need one as the restaurant is left open for late arrivals. We had an easy check in and luggage was brought to the room without any problems. There was also a welcome cocktail.
Rooms are spotlessly clean, as is the rest of the complex, always cleaning. The gardens are immaculately kept too. Beds were comfy and air con good. Towels were changed daily. They even made butterflies out of our bed shorts and top, which was a nice touch.
The staff here were amazing, we have never met any like them, so attentive, nothing too much trouble and always with a smile. The reps were absolutely brilliant, always went out their way to walk round the pool and chat with families, i think they quite liked my lot, we got a lot of attention and flattery. They work extremely hard from 10am to 1am 6 days a week, even during rammadam, there was no let up with their boundless energy.
The reps also were responsible for the evening entertainment, which was most of the time, very cheesy, so go with the view its a bit like school plays, but some nights were good, you have to be prepared to be dragged up on stage like us, but all good fun, thats what holidays are for.
Plenty to do during the day round the pool, there was aqua aerobics every day, water polo, ping pong contests, darts contests, bingo etc. There were double sunbeds with tent like canvas for some much needed shade as some days it was 48 degrees. we went from 9th-23rd august so obviously one of the hottest times of the year, but we did get used to the heat after a few days. restaurants, bars and lobby areas were all air con which was a welcome relief from the midday sun.
Food was delicious, something for everyone, with different theme nights. They made carvings out of watermelons to look like fishes or flowers for presentation which was a nice touch. The moroccan restaurant was lovely, but must say the italian was nothing you couldnt get out of the main restaurant, so not worth visiting really.
We done quite a few trips, something you have to do, as such an amazing experience. my kids were a little daunted by the souks the first time, and can be quite overwhelming, so do the souks tour, it will give you an insight into it. we are glad we done that one. The cascades waterfalls were brilliant, its a whole day trip with lunch included in price, but you have to climb down 500 steps to get to it which means 500 back up in 48 degrees, but well worth it. There were little boats that took us nearer to the falls. We also rode camels where we were dressed like arabs, which is a must, great fun but try to get an early morning ride because it gets hot early, depending what time of year you go. We also done a garden tour of yves st laurent, which included a horse and carriage ride, which we all enjoyed, you can get 5 in one carriage. There was also a history tour but we never went on this one. The price was extremely reasonable. All the trips ive quoted cost us £100 each for the whole lot, well worth it.
I hope this has been informative, any questions i will be happy to answer them. ignore any bad reviews on here because i have absolutely nothing to grumble about. One review on here from "chunky N" in birmingham was distasteful and rude to say there were people from the shallow end of the gene pool on holiday here. There are people from all walks of life who are entitled to go where ever they want :).

Room Tip: All rooms are not far from amenities.
