“Great Hotel”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 4 April 2014

This hotel provides the great service and quality that you expect from the Riu chain. The facilities are good and all parts of the hotel are very well maintained and very clean. The rooms are well equipped and comfortable with lots of storage space (but no drawers) and a refrigerator that is stocked with bottled water daily. The Pool is huge and although the water is cold, once you take the plunge it feels good and very invigorating. The pool area is spacious and clean with lots of sunbeds and a few very comfortable padded lounge areas (if you get up early enough to get one). The food is good and varied and there is such wide choice that there is sure to be something to suit all tastes - make sure you try the Moroccan dishes which are delicious. All staff throughout the hotel are very friendly, helpful and polite. Some reviews say that the walk to the reception is too far? The furthest block of rooms is a maximum of 5 minutes walk (at a slow pace) and after lazing in the sun and eating good food, you need a little exercise! The free shuttle bus into the city centre is a great service - just make sure that you book in advance at reception to ensure you get the times that you want. I was very surprised and relieved when we visited the Souk as you do not get much hassle or pressure to buy and I felt very safe when out and about. Don't miss the trip to the Atlas Mountains as it is a great day out with nice scenery and you get to visit a Berber House and experience their hospitality and mint tea. Morocco is a great destination for winter sun and only around 3.5 hours flight from the UK - we will be back!

Room Tip: Ask for a high floor with view of Atlas Mountains. This is a quiet hotel so noise not an issue.

We have just returned from this hotel it was fantastic. The staff were really nice and friendly ,the food was a delight so much choice. Our room was quite big with nice firm beds the room was kept spotless by the maid never short of water or fresh toiletries The bar staff were very friendly and always up for a laugh, Jamil always the ring leader along with Zakia and
M J from the animation team these guy really work hard. The gardens were in tip top condition gardeners alway cutting and trimming .We took the free shuttle bus into Marrakech ( you must book at the reception ) we booked for 14:00 to go and return @20:00 but found it very busy but very enjoyable got a taxi back at 17:00 it was long enough for us., be sure to haggle for the taxi price he wanted 400 mad but we managed to get him down 150 so be careful. The only thing that was a bit of hassle was you had to bring your pool towels back to the hotel to have them exchanged every day ,but the weather was nice for the walk .All in all this a fantastic hotel and we will diffinately be back, anyone coming to this hotel will not be disappointed

Room Tip: We were allocated a room in block 5 and had no problems ground floor the accomodation in the hotel i...

My boyfriend and I stayed at this lovely hotel in September 2013 and would highly recommend this hotel and Marrakech itself.

Its set within beautiful gardens, other have mentioned about the size of the hotel and the walk to reception being far etc, these people must be very picky because it was a nice walk (NOT VERY FAR) to our room which took about 4mins and this was the farthest block away.

Pool area was lovely and the pool was never too busy, there are also lots of pool dances etc going on which was fun (not so much for my forced other half) but these were done in a corner of the pool so if you did not want to get involved there was loads of space for you to chill out on a lilo.

To be completely honest the evening entertainment was poor, yet hilarious just because of how poor it was!! The animation team however work very hard all day and night and are very friendly so I do not want to put them down at all!!

The food was good, some not to my taste but everyone was enjoying it and tere was always something I can eat (especially being a coeliac)

The trips offered are extensive and all are very well organised.

Highly recommend this hotel, if you go ask the barman by the pool for a strawberry mojito TO DIE FOR!!!

Have stayed in Riu hotels before and was not disappointed with this one. Food was good and the staff were friendly. Service in the bars was very good. It's on the outskirts of Marrakech but runs a free shuttle service into the centre. Taxis into the centre are only 100 MAD during the day and 150 at night. If you go with Thomson's the discovering Marrakech day trip is a must its a long day but well worth it as you go to places you would never find yourself and learn so much about the city.
Would definitely stay again.

Having read the reviews on Tripadvisor (doesn't everyone these days) we were fairly certain of a pleasant stay, but a couple of friends having stayed said that some of the restaurants weren't much good. What a delight to find that they didn't seem to like the same things as we did.

Firstly the public areas of the hotel are spotlessly clean and nicely laid out, the gardens and pool side was always well kept, with the gardens being particularly well tended.

The rooms are of a really good size and although the decor could do with a bit of a freshen up it was a really nice room in which to stay, (lets face in on a sunny holiday we aren't going to spend huge amounts of time in the room are we) however, that being said I was very happy with the room. The only negative was the towels were at the end of their shelf life and some of them were a little hard and thin, which was quite a surprise as the rest of the hotel is so well kept, I spoke to one of the managers and he assured me that the towels are replaced on a rolling scheme and we must just have been unlucky with the ones we got,

The food in all the restaurants was of a very good quality (including smoked salmon and a glass or two of Cava for breakfast on a couple of days) and the choice was good too other than that with a certain amount of traditional cusine as well as some with a more European flavour. Enough different types and tastes in the tea department to keep everybody happy (my wife opted for chamomile tea at breakfast and was most complimentary about it) There is of course more simpler food available which really helps if you have younger, or possibly someone with not such an adventurous palate, you can get spicy as well their Harissa (paste and sauces) are hot and tangy, but overall I would class the food as rich and flavoursome rather than spicy and hot. The salad bar was wonderful and most days a heartyu salad was what my lunch consisted of (with the ubiquitous Pistachio flavoured Icecream for desert (I'm still not sure that you can actually eat too much of that) the wine is very drinkable the Red, White and Rose and the beer/lager was a real surprise as I hadn't expected it to be as familiar in taste (then I discovered that Riu Hotels started in Spain, and it all became clearer).

Finally and in many ways most importantly the Staff, they are, to a man (and woman) excellent, helpful and efficient, the service is always brilliant and never intrusive (although the restaurants are buffet style the waiters and waitresses (yes there are a few) will always help out and get anything for you (a tea, a beer, a glass of wine etc) and not once did I get the impression from any of them that they were angling for a tip, just really happy to help.

The hotel is about 6 km from "downtown" Marrakech, but the shuttle bus service is really good and departs on time, make sure you book your place in plenty of time as its a pretty well used service, if you get stuck there are always taxi's don't pay more that 100 dhs during the day (about £8 when we were there)

The hotel takes a fair number of guests and I'm sure that it hotel gets busier with many more children at certain times of the year, which may or may not affect the dynamic of the hotel, but what I can say is that we have just had a terrific weeks stay at a lovely hotel, for a very very reasonable cost.

Room Tip: We took a first floor room as someone had mentioned safer for security but having visited there I wo...

This was our first time at this hotel. We spent the last week of March here in glorious sunshine. Very clean hotel, friendly staff, and entertainment in the main Lobby is great if you need easy listening and a bit of a dance. Poolside entertainment and exercises fun to watch if you are too lazy to move. We had great food and some average food, but plenty of choice. The animation team do their best to entertain and make your stay a happy one. On a negative note we arrived at 8.30am and didn't gain access to the room until 1pm, so make sure you have easy access to swim wear.

We visited the hotel in March for a spot of winter sunshine & some sightseeing.

The hotel is very good , great range of food available in the restaurants (there are 3) all of which are buffet style. The Moroccan restaurant (& the Moroccan food in the main restaurant) is fantastic & it's well worth booking in ( you book the Italian & Moroccan restaurants by speaking to the head waiter on the door of the main restaurant)

The hotel had free wi-fi in the lobby & bar areas which seemed to get well used by the residents.

The hotel seemed to be pretty much at full occupancy, however we never struggled for a sun lounger by the very large pool, or a table at the restaurant or a seat in the bar or lounge area.

The hotel is approx 15 minutes outside of the city centre by car & the hotel operates a courtesy bus to & from the centre.

We booked a couple of trips with a local tour company , Holiday Services S.A. (prior to travel) & visited the historical sights & the souks & square. (For the price of them it was well worth it as it took a lot of hassle out of the experience of visiting the medina)
