We stayed in this hotel between 5th and 12th Feb. It was a bit of last minute booking and having 1. never been to Marrakech, 2. nor anywhere in Africa. 3. never visited a city as a package holiday, and 4. never been been on an all inclusive holiday before, I used and scanned Trip Advisor daily before going, in order to make sure I knew what to expect. So I thought I should give a little back and share my experience of this hotel.

For me this hotel gave us everything we needed for our trip. We were not visiting Marrakech to explore the city. Indeed, if we were, we would not have booked a package holiday to a hotel outside the city. That is the first thing - the hotel is a good 15 min bus ride into the city. If you are visiting Marrakech to get under its skin - this will not be the hotel for you - stay in a riad in the medina. Our objective was to go somewhere to get some heat and relaxation in February - and the hotel delivered just that. Staying at this hotel to explore "real marrakech" will just be a hinderance because of the location. Whilst there are shuttle buses offered by the hotel - these are not that regular and the last one is at 7pm. A taxi however does only cost 80 dirham (£6/7).

If the purpose of your holiday is to relax then the location of this hotel will be perfect - indeed we felt it gave us the balance we needed - being able to explore the crazy aspects of the city of Marrakech on a few days when the weather was not the best but being able to escape the hustle and bustle and relax in the sun when the sun was out.

The room accomodation for me lacked the finishes and special touches of a top hotel. It seems like the hotel has spent most of their budget on the main communal buidings in the hotel (which are stunning) rather than the bedrooms. That is not to say our room was not very nice - the rooms are styled in typical moroccan interior and furniture, which is a nice touch and our room did cater for everything you need in a room whilst on holiday. The only draw back was the lack of sound proofing which meant long lies were not always an option when housekeeping was cleaning the adjoining room or the hotel buggy-car passed your door.

As I mentioned, we had never gone for an all inclusive holiday before, preferring to spend our evenings visiting various different restaurants in the locations we stay in. This is not an option for this hotel as it basically sits in an isolated part of the city. However the all inclusive offering did not dissapoint. 3 restaurants are available - all buffet style (morrocan/italian and general). The moroccan and italian restaurants require advance bookings but worth doing. One slight dissappointment was the moroccan restaurant where I think (because of the ambience they have tried to create - a little bit more subdued and special, when compared with the other restaurants) could have been better served via table service with a set menu. Nonetheless the food throughout our holiday was all very very good - puddings especially. The drinks that are available cover all bases - beer, wine and most spirits and mixers. The "Springtime Cooler" cocktail was my drink of choice throughout our stay - refreshing and yummy.

Within the hotel there is lots to do - the outdoor pool is very large but very cold. Dont think as I did (when I read other reviews) that pool temperature is a subjective thing - it really is freezing and I was only able to swim a couple of lengths before getting brain freeze - hopefully it is just a winter thing. There is also an indoor pool, tennis courts, table tennis, pool table, bingo, football tournaments, petanque, gym, fitness classes etc. Evening entertainment was always available - cabaret acts etc but we never experienced this, opting to sit in the main bar instead.

There are also spa faciliites with various beauty treatments available - these are however an additional cost, as you would expect. I had a back massage on our last day which was ok but not fantastic. Simple things like having some chilled tunes would have made a big difference and also maybe a firmer handed massuese - but that is of course personal choice.

Finally, the staff within this hotel are brilliant. They are all very personable, going out of their way to make sure you are kept entertained and happy at all times. Nothing was too much trouble.

All in all this hotel was very nice and very good value for money based on the all inclusive package. It is a young hotel so expect unmatured landscaping and some unmade paths - this did not in anyway spoil our enjoyment in the hotel.

Be impressed with value for money (based on Feb 2010 prices) for a combined relaxation trip with some flirting with Marrakech's culture but underwhelmed by quality finishes/touches and location if your aim is a city break to explore Marra.

We wanted to get away for a short break to see a bit of winter sun and chose the Tikida Palmeraie via First Choice. We already knew that the hotel was only opened a couple of months earlier so didn't know what to expect but reviews of the hotel looked promising so we went ahead and booked, staying from 8 - 12 February.

After a just over 3 hour flight we were in Morocco. The transfer to the hotel went smoothly and we were met at the hotel by the friendly staff who offered drinks. The hotel itself was fabulous and the staff were always pleasant and helpful. Apart from the entertainment in the evenings, there wasn't really much to do around the hotel apart from sunbathe or eat / drink. This suited us fine as that's what we went for! I'm a fussy eater but there was always something I fancied. There were excursions to Marrakech, the Atlas mountains, The Sahara and more but as our stay was a short one, we decided to give them a miss.

We did go to the Marrakech Medina / Souk area on our own (via the hotel shuttle bus) - luckily we were 'adopted' by a local 'official' guide who showed us around some interesting shops and sights (we gave him £20 for the 3 hours we were there and he was well pleased). We had to get a taxi back to the hotel as the shuttle bus only ran up to a certain time and that was eventful - there doesn't seem to be any highway code!!

The one and only 'hiccup' was that there were no tea making facilities in our room. If you like your morning cuppa before you face the world, remember to pack your travel kettle!

The other reviews here are basically how we found it. All in all, if you want a relaxing sunbathing holiday in a fantastic hotel with pleasant & friendly staff, then look no further!

Stayed here in December 2009, a week after the hotel had opened! You could still smell the paint and the staff were still getting used to their surroundings but we honestly couldnt fault it. It is outside the city centre in the Palmeraie district about ten minutes drive from the centre. We arrived at the hotel at 10pm just as the restaurant was due to close but the kept it open so we could all have something to eat which was a lovely gesture. The food in the restaurant was excellent and varied-always something for even fussy eaters, we were only there for 4 nights so sadly missed out on the Moroccan restaurant but had a meal in the Italian which was nice. Breakfast, lunch agin all fab. worked our way through the cocktails menu- yummy! the pool was huge and looked very inviting but the air was cool in December and we couldnt quite face the cold water! But had a swim in the heated indoor pool very nice. The grounds were still growing but were being tended to night and day so i have no doubt it will be lush when finished. Our room was again lovely, huge with a terrace, beds comfy and flat screen tv. The staff were all very friendly, especially the animation team who tried to get everybody in the holiday spirit despite a few misery gut's who wouldnt join in and were complaining at everything, One day me and my boyfriend went to ask the rep about trips and waited forty minutes listening to an eejit complaining about every tiny little thing. You are on holiday grow up and start enjoying yourself!! Life's too short. The reps, especially Paul, were very knowleageable about Morocco and the people, customs etc. You could tell he really loved the country and is a credit to Thomsons. Marrakech is fascinating, the hotel runs a free prebookable shuttle into the centre it drops you off at the Jemma El Fna Square right in the heart of it all. The Medina is a maze but the square is the life and soul, we had lamb tajine served on paper with sausage, flatbreads to scoop it up for a bargain price on the stalls that set up in the evening, try it its amazing. We also went to the Menara and Majorelle gardens (very pretty) and had a tour round the Medina and the Youssef Ben Medersa. All in all we had a brilliant time, I would love to return to Marrakech and would definately stay at the Tikida Palmeraie again.

We stayed at this hotel from 1/2/10 -15/2/10. It was a fantastic holiday. The hotel is away from the city center which is what we best liked. Can't fault the quality and service as the staff right through management were all very helpful. The hotel shuttle runs through out the day to the city center which was very convenient. The driver was kind enough to make a request stop and would also pick us up on the way back. There is tight security at the enterence of the hotel which is great. Taxis are available outside the hotel and they are reasonable. There is also a supermarket just walking distance from the hotel which was very handy.
There are 3 resturants in the hotel of which two have theme nights morroccan and italian. The third one is a general restaurant where breakfast and daily dinner is served. There is a choice of italian right though to morrocan dishes available for dinner and lunch with a a choice of various salads and desserts. On Valentines we booked the morrocan restaurant it had a beautiful ambience with very low lighting.. The food was to die for specially the shawrama which was spicy and yummy..!!! and once again not forgetting the desserts they were faboulous.
Entertainment wise there is a theatre where very entertaining shows are performed. Music is good and the dancers are all very bubbly. In the lobby there is also entertainment and a dance floor available a few nights in the week.
The rooms are just walking distance and very spacious with a balcony where we got direct sunlight and above all spotlessly clean. Fresh towels were replaced everyday with rose petals.
There are two pools indoor and outdoor a gym, kids club, tennis courts, and massage also available.
Overall it is a peaceful hotel if you want a relaxing break and I would reccomend everybody to stay here.

This resort is about 6 km outside the centre of Marrakesh. It's nice to be able to dip in and out of the madness that is the Medina. The courtusy bus only runs during the day which was disappointing but a cab will cost you about £12. Rooms are comfortable and large. Its new so it looks a little barron with no plants yet but that will change with time.

Food & drink was good and the Morrocan night is very good. It was my birthday while we were there so we got free fizzy wine and a nice rose petal covered table with the staff singing to me, they also made me a cake and left me a present in the room. These small touches made it a lovely holiday.

It's cheap at the moment so there was quite a few hen parties which didn't really annoy me but other traverlers were not impressed with their loud drunken antics!

Spa was just ok - not that great. Very westernised with prices to match. The massage was fine. Manicure pretty good. Outdoor pool was absolutely freezing and I am usually not put off by cold water but it was not usuable. Would be ok once the summer starts but the cold nights in Winter made it unbearable during the sunny days.

Would recommend to people who want to lie in the sun, drink and eat as well as getting some culture in the beautiful Medina.

POSITIVES
Only open three months. Very new and everything is fresh in the hotel. big and expansive site. Large pool.
Staff - fantastic, committed and really superb, just lovely in every single aspect, so nice and kind and seemed so genuine about caring for everyone. I do not like games but the animation staff were great, especially Miriam. They love to chat and when our two coaches left there were about 20 staff waving goodbye and they were so sincere.
Indoor pool - weather was cool on a few days and the large indoor pool is great.
Catering - this is wonderful, variety, lots of options and very fresh and fantastic, again Hea Chef is fab and lovely.
Rooms are well appointed and large. English TV - channels 5 and ITV and BBC News.Good showers and separate loo. All have verandah and all on ground or first floor.
Good childrens play area and an art room too for adults.
Price - value for money is amazing
Location - it is 15 mins outside the main town and very quiet and has a lovely open feeling, huge skies.

CONS
The hotel is HUGE- if you like smaller places do not go here
Restaurant - again this is VAST and had a slight Butlins feel because with self-service there are so many people is can be a bit like spaghetti junction and when we went [Feb 5-12] it was only half occupied!
Patchy service problems - no diet mixers. No laundry service though it is advertised in the information booklet and we later found other residents had a laundry sack and order form, when we asked at reception we were told to bring the laundry to reception - which I certainly was not going to do !!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Our fan in the loo did not work. The plug in the sink in the bathroom did not work and the maid should have reported it but we did after a day or so and then had to ask twice to have it fixed.
BOTTLED WATER - apparently you should have this replenished by the maid but we never did and had to ask at Reception and then only got it once.
Beauty treatments - very expensive.
Outdoor Pool - BIG PROBLEM - it has a sloping entrance which gets slimy and slippery and we saw an elderly gent, a toddler and a grown man slip badly whilst in the pool - they are going to have a law suit about this when someone is seriously injured
LEVEL ACCESS
This was an opportunity to make a great level access but they have stupidly put steps around the place and everyone we saw with pushchairs had to heave them down a big step by the side of the pool or take a 500 mtrs detour. This hotel is very close to having great disabled access but blew it with little steps all over the place
MINIBUS TO TOWN
This was hourly and always booked up, we never got a seat and paid £10 for a taxi each way.
MORE THOUGHT ABOUT INTERESTING THINGS FOR GUESTS
Apart from the evening shows which don't appeal to me there was nothing. we have been to places where they invited local stalls in for a 'market evening' where guests could shop. Also, in another Riu they have an afternoon mint tea tent. Maybe they are still planning things and cnocentrating on getting the basics correct?

My wife and I decided we needed some winter sun after a pretty hectic few months. Where to go in February for a week that was a relatively short flight? We hadn't been to Morocco and after a friend advised us they'd had a good time all-inclusive in a Riu hotel in Agadir, we thought we should try it out. But we like a bit of culture when we go on holiday so we plumped for vibrant Marrakech rather than do it on a day trip from Agadir. We got a cracking deal on this hotel, probably because of its relative "newness".

Location-wise, it is positioned on the outskirts of the city, a 20-minute bus ride to/from the Medina. So you are away from the hustle and bustle, but close enough to take a short trip in for an afternoon or evening. This is great if you want some peace and quiet - I don't imagine you'd get much of it in central Marrakech! Taxis at night should cost in the region of 80Dh (£6-£7) depending on how hard you bargain with the taxi drivers, but as mentioned in previous reviews, the hotel provides a complimentary shuttle bus through the day.

The staff are all very efficient, friendly and attentive, right through from management, catering and the entertainment team - the latter grouping seem to work 24/7, from being by the poolside by day and in the theatre by night. You can tell they enjoy their work and their enthusiasm rubs off and gives the place a great relaxed atmosphere.

Food-wise, absolutely flawless. Restaurants are all buffet style, but detractors of this should not be put off as the turnaround means that nothing stays out for long - the cooks are continuously rustling up fresh dishes. All tastes are catered for - authentic Moroccan (obviously), excellent vegetarian options, pizza/pasta, salads, seafood, poultry, the works, all to a very high standard. Desserts also are superb. I challenge anyone not to take a dessert every day!

The pool area is excellent, even if the water is cold (if you go in, you have to swim in it!), and with two tennis courts, a football pitch/basketball court, boules (petanque) pitch, beach volleyball pitch and ping-pong tables, there are plenty of things to keep the kids distracted should you bring the family.

If you are inclined to have a lie-in on any day, the construction of the room blocks means that noise does tend to impact through walls and floors, particularly when the housekeeping staff are cleaning rooms, so that lie-in may not be as good as you hoped for! The beds are also quite firm, which suits me personally, but may not suit everyone.

I am the kind of person who doesn't tend to be sad to leave a place at the end of a holiday, I am normally just about ready to get back and face the big wide world again, but when I got back to the cold UK, I did get a little bit depressed. I guess that is a big compliment.

Should we return to Marrakech, I would certainly go back to this hotel and would strongly advise others to do so also. All-inclusice isn't for everyone, but you really do get the best of both worlds with the Riu Tikida Palmeraie. Book it now before it gets too popular (and expensive)!!!
