“New Hotel , Still Work in Progress. Not 4 Star”
Reviewed 26 March 2010

This was our honeymoon, on booking we were promised double room and pool view, we got none of this even after discussing with hotel. Food initially seemed good but very quickly became dull and boring through no variety. The main pool looks great but very dangerous, whilst we were there someone fell and broke their hand around pool area. There was ongoing maintenance work including handrails around pool and fitment of life belts, paths being dug up and relaid. Also we got a shock to find out rooms had no air conditioning as was still 'winter'. Its also a good bit out from Marrakech centre which was misleading from the brochure and leaving hotel on foot was not recommended. Hotel itself is lovely and staff very friendly but poor quality food, cheap quality alcohol and smoking inside hotel really lets it down. Avoid the moroccan restaurant as we and other guests were ill after eating there. Shop in hotel very expensive for every day items like crisps, shaving foam and other toiletries. Will not be going back or recommending to anyone.

I returned from Marrakech earlier this month, having never been to any northern African countries before I was delighted at what myself and my boyfriend found in Marrakech.

We were collected from the airport by your standard loud mouth tour rep, who delivered us to the Riu hotel in around 20-25mins. There we were met by staff with smiles and cocktails which never go amiss, check in took no longer than 5 mins and bags were taken by porters directly to your room. Which left us free to explore this amazing new hotel, high ceils and marble floors are pure luxury!! Details in decoration make you feel like your in the heart of old Marrakech already.

After an hour of settling in we attended the tour rep welcome talk....Although they are friendly enough they only seem interested if your booking their over priced excursions and as we were not we never even saw them again!! There is however a woman in reception that will book many brilliant day trips and activities for you which are cheaper and you can knock the price down a bit if your willing to try. These are well worth the money and were the highlight of our holiday!
It was recommended to us not to book activites outside the hotel or from unknown sources as you can never quite be sure what your getting, I woul suggest this also.

The rooms are just past the outdoor pool, which i thought was perfect as early nights aren't spoilt by noise from the restaurant or theatre. They are large, clean and you have your own sheltered patio or balcony area.

On the first we had dinner in the largest dining room, I've never seen so much delicious food or eaten that much for that matter! Both specialist restaurants are also fantastic and are wellworth booking for!

The bars are great in the hotel and tipping a waiter in one them can go along way as we found out! The entertainment people are energtic to say the least and kept everyone laughing, karoke is a must!

The only complaints I would have with the hotel is the fact the outside pool is freezing, but there is an indoor alternative if you wish to swim.

The location of the hotel was fantastic, the short journey from airport to hotel was no problem and felt like a small sight seeing tour anyway. The shuttle bus was great and took you right into the heart of old Marrakech, it also picks you up/drops off right next to the tallest building in Marraech so you can't miss the stop! Taxi's are interesting, all drivers seem pretty mental as there drive anywhere they like in the road. Be sure to pronouce the name of the hotel correctly as there's another one down the road called tikida clubhotel and we did nearly end up there one night!

Overall, a fantastic place to stay! Marrakech really is one of the wonders of the world im sooo glad i was able to go.
The hotel and staff could did not disappoint in the slightest. Go now!!!!

We stayed at the Riu for a week on a package holiday with Thomson. We were really happy with the hotel when we first arrived. The decor is really nice, the room was really nice, and the bar staff and reception staff are absolutely fantastic. We werent bothered by the location as the shuttle buses were provided and the driver is lovely and really helpful.
However...! About 3 days into my holiday (we had only eaten in the hotel), I came down with really bad food poisoning (confirmed by tests by my doctor on return to the UK). Obviously after that I was pretty much stuck in my room for the rest of the trip, and couldnt face any more Riu food, even smelling it made me want to be sick. Luckily for my partner the rooms have seperate toilets to the rest of the bathroom! The thing I really noticed once I was ill when I made it to the buffet and more aware of the food was that it was all totally the same every day.
The other problem we had was that the maids turned up every morning really early and then stood and chatted for 30 minutes really loudly outside our room. This may have only been a problem with our room as we were about 4 doors down from the utility room.
The holiday was a total disaster and waste of money, so I am afraid that I just couldnt recommend the Riu to anyone. If you are going, please be really, really careful what you eat.

Just returned from a weeks holiday at this hotel, as previous postings say great value for money. I am so pleased that we booked this hotel at this time, because I doubt that it will be as affordable in the near future, because the facilities are so good. The staff are amongst the most helpful and pleasant that I have come across and we have been lucky enough to visit lots of destinations. The indoor pool is of good size and reasonable depth, the weather was perfect so we also used the outdoor pool which wasn't too cold.Food in the main restaurant was enjoyable and quite varied , some of the best deserts ever! I would recommend use of the courtesy bus into Marrekech its so easy to get a taxi once you are in town, to some of the attractions. We made our own way around the souks and hardly had any hassle at all . There were some people who somehow felt the need to complain about most things, but we had a really fantastic holiday, and it made a wonderful change from the Canaries at this time of year. The army of gardeners will ensure that the gardens will be brilliant when established. The best advice is to visit Marrekech with an open mind but the hotel in our opinion is great.

This hotel has been open for less than four months but is already showing signs of deterioration.
In the rooms and on the patios there are chipped floor tiles where things have been dropped and there is flaking of the paint in the bathroom where there is insufficient steam extraction.
In the restaurants, the chairs are becoming stained and there is chipped crockery.
Poolside and sofa mattresses and patio cushions are all pale coloured and are starting to get dirty, marked, damaged or missing.
There are a number of slip/trip hazards, some of which are being dealt with as they arise but you need to be careful of the mats which slip on the polished tiled floors, the smooth tiles both inside and out are very slippery when wet and the glass doors, although marked, injured at least two people during our stay – one who tripped up the step and the doors didn’t open in time and the other who walked into the doors not realising they were there.

In the rooms there are no net curtains, only heavy blackout ones, so if you want natural light and are situated on the ground floor anyone walking past can see into the room, otherwise you have to keep the lights on at all times, wasting energy.
There is no drawer space to put all those little essential bits and pieces.
The upstairs rooms also have tiled floors so there is no noise insulation.
The smell someone mentioned as being the drains was initially experienced but this seemed to increase after the room was cleaned.

The food is more than adequate in quantity and variety, quality is generally OK but the themed restaurants have the same menu each day.

On the plus side all the staff are very friendly, polite and helpful with a high level of security. The whole site, inside and out, is constantly being cleaned. The extensive grounds will be charming and fragrant when they mature. Yes the accommodation is spread out but if you have problems walking far then mention this when booking.

Unfortunately the service from the Thomson reps was less than helpful as the reasons why trips were not running changed from day to day and they seemed to be trying to put us off.

great hotel - had a week's break here and thought it was excellent - especially for the price paid.
for those who comment on the colour scheme - the hotel has no choice - any tour guide in marrakech tells you about the building colour policy in the city
the main areas are opulently decorated, and pretty authentic - very comfortable - free wifi through out the main building
the food was of good quality - varied choice
the staff very friendly
the rooms are very comfortable - the only bad point would be the shower curtain - a curtain??? why?? TV is a nice bonus with some UK channels
the pool area is great -but due to weather did not use it a lot (towels provided)
gym small but well equiped, and a good size heated indoor pool
thomson reps were great - they have a great package with 3 afternoon excursions for £50pp - a real bargain to get a taste of marrakech medina/souks, the ourika valley, and the gardens - thoroughly enjoyed all of those
all in all a good experience - but the low introductory price band is attractive some of the wrong sort of customers who really should stick with spain if that is what you expect

Spent a week at RTP and felt that it was long enough. After a good flight with Thomson and a quick transfer to the hotel our first impression was it looked like a prison camp from outside the walls,,,,,,,,,,, it is so drab looking. I'm sure when the gardens have matured the whole place will look better with a bit of colour.

Check in was efficient but our room wasn't available although we only had to wait 15 minutes.

Our room in block 4 was large and comfortable although overlooked by other rooms which wouldn't be a problem if the windows had net curtains to go with the black out curtains,,,,, no privacy with curtains open.

Ate in both Italian & Moroccan restaurants which had a nicer ambience than the buffet but food good in all of them, plenty of choice especially the sweetswhich were excellent.

Fantastic pool area with the most comfortable sun beds ever although they did get taken early in the morning, but the pool was freezing,,,, what a waste!!!!! why have an all year round resort with a pool that can't be used in the winter ?

Animation team worked hard all day and night but evening shows were not brilliant.
Ideally situated for Marrakesh which is fantastic especially the souk at night .

Did one trip which was 4x4 to Atlas Mountains, a great day out .

All in all a good winter break givng value for money but don't set your sights too high
