Dellarosa Hotel Suites & Spa
Reviewed 11 June 2014

Having read some of the reviews for this hotel we were slightly wary..... we didn't need to be! We were updated from standard double to a very nice suite with balcony. One or two little niggles on checking into our room: our fridge was locked, one of the balcony doors wasn't closing - however we reported these issues to reception and by the time we had returned from lunch everything was fixed to our satisfaction. The hotel was modern and clean, the staff were polite and helpful and breakfast was very good with plenty of fresh fruit and juices, as well as local sweet delicacies and the usual cooked eggs, etc. There was live music in the breakfast room on a couple of occasions performed by a wonderful lute player - and that really got our day off to an atmospherically good start! The swimming pool was not that enticing as it was by the reception area and was quite small and dark but we were there primarily for a city break so were not too concerned and there are two terraces for sunbathing, one next to the pool and one on the roof for those who worship the sun. It was ideally situated for both the new town and the Medina (about 20 minutes walk from the centre) and always had plenty of taxis outside too.

This is a quick review for the Dellarosa Hotel Suite and Spa in Marrakech. We stayed in a junior double suite.

Firstly the POSITIVES..

1. The location is excellent. It is located just outside of the old town. It is a 10-15 minute walk from the Katoubia mosque (large minaret) and markets. It's also 5 minutes from the Plaza which houses the more famous shop brands.

2. The staff were very friendly and welcoming and we were greeted with a nice cup of mint tea. The hotel will also break money for you which is useful. Staff are also helpful when guiding you on places to visit although they don't have any maps.

3. The room was spacious. There were 2 large couches, 2 TVs, microwave, mini bar (had 1 Fanta in) and coffee maker. The hotel also contained a pool table, swimming pool (although this was drained on the last 2 days of our holiday), gym (free entry) and spa (predictably expensive when compared to rates found outside).

4. I recommend getting the breakfast included to any visits to the hotel. Breakfast comprised of cereal, toast, spreads, scrambled egg and the more exciting option of roast potatoes and chicken pepper mix. Furthermore there are an impressive selection of pastries and fruits on offer.

5. There are a selection of activities that the hotel can arrange for you if you cannot be bothered to go out and search for travel shops. These include trekking, skydiving... etc.

Points to be WARY of...

1. The hotel was slow in replacing amenities. We had to request toilet roll on 2 separate occasions during our stay (1 week) as it wasn't replaced during the day. Shampoo was requested but not replaced over 2 days. Towels were taken but not replaced on 2 days. These were rectified on calling reception except the shampoo which was not replaced.

2. The hotel did not send a taxi to pick us up from the airport as had been requested before travelling out so we had to take a bus that dropped us 5 minutes from the hotel. Note the bus is a good option if you want cheap travel to the hotel (30 DH per person as opposed to taxis that request 200 DH).

3. The hotel has quite a strict no food or drink policy. While this is understandable it does somewhat negate the empty mini bar and microwave provided in your room! Also water is charged at 20 DH while water costs 4 DH in the local supermarket (2 minute walk from hotel).

OVERALL...
Enjoyable stay at the hotel and worth the price.

Room Tip: Junior deluxe double room was spacious, quiet with little A/C noise.

Well have to say wondered what to expect at hotel with the mixed reviews on here. However we had no problems. Had a junior suite which was very roomy. Quite basic tho and nothing exceptional but was clean. Room cleaned every day and didn't have to ask for anything. As noted by others no utensils in there but a fridge for the water! A bonus. Breakfast was good. Choice enough and lovely pastries, not the best we have had but certainly not the worst as some suggest. Staff friendlish but then found most of the Moroccan people quite offish. Didn't fancy pool at all not welcoming in the least and didn't ever see it in the sun. Room top terrace could be made more off. New furniture and umbrellas with the bar in use, would me it a nice place to relax. Certainly not a 5* hotel but for 3 days did the job fine. 15/20 min walk to old town .... We walked every where .. But need your whits about you crossing their roads!!! Mad place, so hectic and constant. Didn't find it a relaxing place but is a great experience. Is a bit intimidating in places and was glad was with my husband. Great oasis restaurant if you can locate is Dar Nejjarine. (Served alcohol too there!). Very calm n relaxed in the madness. Also Jardin De Majorelle gardens... Very tranquil. For us personally not a place we would re visit but a must to experience.

We had mixed experiences with this place. Our first night was perfect. The rooms are awesome, spacious (livingroom area, two tvs, kitchen), and clean. When we got to our rooms we found some complimentary fruit arranged on a plate in the living room table; a nice touch. We then departed for the Sahara but kept one room booked. When we returned 2 days later is when the problems started. We rechecked in for the other two rooms and headed up to our (3) rooms. None of our key cards worked. Went back down and got them reset. 2 of them worked but my parents had to go back down to get theirs reset a second time. Our room (which was the one we kept while we were away) had been cleaned, but we had no towels. The same fruit was still sitting on the table, the cut up watermelon rotting (although it was saran wrap covered) so we decided to just let it go since we were leaving the following morning. My parents room was also missing towels, the tv in the room, and toiletries. When they brought them the toiletries, they were halfway empty. This is not terrible in an of itself, but it was a combination of all of these small inconveniences and annoyances that added up to dissatisfaction.

Location wise, it's about a 15 minute walk to Plaza Jemma El Fna. There is a convenience store right next door and some restaurants right around the block if you don't feel like venturing out too far.

Breakfast is included but nothing spectacular. Dinner is a buffet and it's 200 Dirham per person. This was entirely too much for what it was. Sure, it comes out to only $25 but that's still pretty bad when you consider that you can get a way better meal for no more than 100 Dirham per person at most restaurants.

They have a bar that sells alcohol which was nice since most places don't serve alcohol in Morocco.

Wifi was OK.

Would take a travel kettle next time( will do where ever we go). Town center about 15-20mins walk, glad we were very centrel. Swimming pool is a little small but clean and in the sun for part of the day.
It was a good base and nice to go back to.

The hotel was nice enough, we had a room that slept 3 so it had a good sized living area (with pull out bed), kitchen section - although there were no pots, pans or utensils, bedroom with 2 single beds and a bathroom of course. We ordered room service on teh first night and the portions were small, let's just say we didn't bother with room service again. The breakfasts were acceptable, we also found something we could eat, pastries were a safe bet.

Walking from here to the new town was about a 15 minute walk, as a group of 3 twenty something girls we did get a bit of attention but didnt feel unsafe walking in to the new town. The old town was a bit further away and through a few little streets which wasnt so nice, would reccommend a taxi to get there. When we went to the old town we went with a guide, he was a god send and I wouldnt want to go without one, you will get lost and you will be bugged to buy everything and anything. The town square was a very intimidating place, I guess it just wasnt our cup of tea having to watch over our shoulders all the time for potential snakes, monkeys or even eagles being thrust at us. Still it definitely was an experience.

We also got a couple of spa treatments at the hotel, nice enough, not cheap but not extortionate and at least you know you are in safe hands there.

I was delighted when I arrived at this hotel as they had upgraded my room to a suite as it was my boyfriend's birthday, however there were a few downers. I really did't read the reviews as a friend recommended this hotel.
The electrics cut out twice, once while my partner was in the shower! The hotel staff are friendly however some are rude, they put the phone down without saying thank you or bye. There is no iron in the suites, so requesting one can take up to 30 mins. The breakfast was not great, there was not much choice and nothing was labelled, if you arrive after 9.30am the tables are not dressed and are responsible to find your own knife and fork.
The roof terrace is lovely, however no shade to get away. The pool is always in the shade so it's always cold to step in.
The treatments are a bit expensive and they don't look like the pictures, me and boyfriend felt on edge the whole time.
It's a lovely hotel but not 4*.
The location is great, everything is walking distance and there are 2 little supermarkets next door.
