We chose Dar Habiba because of the good Trip Advisor reports and the comprehensive Dar Habiba web site.
We had not visited Morocco before and were expecting exactly what we got - a chaotic city that never sleeps, with major traffic, hustle and bustle. If there is any order there, it's well disguised!
In contrast, Dar Habiba is a haven of peace and tranquility. It is hard to believe that you are in the midst of the turmoil of Marrakech once you are within its walls. Nothing is too much trouble for Salwa and Adraa, who always have a smile. The super efficient manager, Najat , was on holiday, so Alastair, the owner, was standing in and made us very welcome. The Riad is two hundred and fifty years old and the rooms are traditionally decorated and furnished. Alastair has obviously spent as much time and care on the refurbishment as he has in choosing and training the staff.
As we were not due to arrive until the evening, we chose to dine in the Riad on the first night and ordered our menu choice in advance from Najat. The food is authentic Moroccan, as good as anything you will get elsewhere, with provisions bought fresh each day in the markets. It is very tasty and served on a rose petal strewn table cloth! The breakfast is also excellent.
We had some torrential rain during our stay which occasionally precluded dining on the roof terrace, but the ground floor Salon was equally atmospheric. After one particularly hard day in the Souks, we relaxed in the Dar Habiba Hammam then dined there again in the evening. Convivial, good conversation, highly recommended.
Dar Habiba could not be better situated, it is only a short stroll from the action and provides a relaxing base from which to explore the sights. We had arranged a taxi from and to the Airport with Najat and it all worked perfectly and made for a stress free transfer.
The weather became glorious on our last day, but frankly, the rain didn't matter. We enjoyed Dar Habiba and the people of Marrakech very much and hope to return later in the year.
