We have just arrived back from the best holiday we have ever had. This riad is stunning. We only had a week but had wished we stayed for 2. It is so clean and tidy everywhere - staff were only too pleased to assist you with anything.

What can I say – the Riad Lorsya is wonderful. The room we had was gorgeous and perfect as a peaceful base in a very full on city. My husband our 11 year old daughter and myself where made to feel so welcome and nothing was too much trouble for Abdul to organize from restaurant bookings to taxi pick ups. The ladies kept us topped up with coffee and mint tea as and when and made sure our room was clean and tidy for our return after a hard days shopping – I cant thank them enough.
The evening meal provided was lovely and set a high bench mark for the week – and the breakfast was great, fresh orange juice, mint tea, coffee, hot chocolate, yogurt, fruit, pancakes and fresh bread a great start to each day.
One touch which really made it for us was being given a mobile phone number we could call at anytime in case of emergency or even if we where just lost – we didn’t use it but knowing we had it was good. In saying that, I felt safe at all times in Marrakesh during the day and after dark wondering through the small alleyways back to Riad Lorsya. If cant decide where to stay just stop searching now as I’m convinced you cant do better then Riad Lorsya.

What can I say about the Riad that hasn’t already been covered. It is bliss. My friend and I stayed in the Rose and Orient room respectively and thoroughly enjoyed every minute. So much so we joke about going back daily. It’s quiet, immaculately clean, comfortable and as the Moroccans’ say ‘ it is your home’. The roof terrace is delightful and worth a visit after sunset to relax and listen to the sounds.

The staff are wonderful, Ilyas and Abdul are fabulous and couldn’t be more helpful, nothing is too much trouble and the mint tea is gorgeous.

Location is perfect, right in the middle of the souks and yet far enough away (down a quiet alley) to have some peace. It’s five mins walk to the main square where all the mayhem that is Marrakech is unveiled.

Advice.
• Definitely take up the offer for collection from the airport, it’s worth every euro. When dropped off by the tax and picked up by the man in the cart be prepared to have to tip him! 20-40 Dirham needed
• The first night it’s worth finding a restaurant with a view of the night market to get a ‘feel’ for how things work
• A big smile and a ‘no thank’ is all that is really needed to get by in the souks – everyone is friendly ( they’re just trying to make a living)
• Find the Kosybar near the Badhii Palace square – it’s a lovely calm oasis above the square where all the lanterns are made
• The breakfast is delicious – fill up, it’ll keep you going!

And remember if you get lost Ilyas and Abdul give you their number and will come and rescue you if needed.

Finally.... when can I go back?

It is a superb setting in Marrakech right by the souks and main square. Abdul and all the staff couldn't do more for you. It is a beautiful Riad with superb furniture, a lovely roof area to relax, and the staff will make you tea, coffee whenever you like.

The only things you need to know, and this isnt really a problem if you know in advance, is that the way the Riad is designed the noise echos and so if you can hear everything in the main area in your room, and if you are there for a romantic time, the next door rooms will be able to hear you. Also again not a problem for everyone, there is no radio or TV in the room. So you get total relaxation.

The only problem we had was that they didn't take Visa when we got there to pay, which came as a shock booking via Expedia, but they were so helpful with this, even when I had problems with the cashpoints Ilyas the manager let me use his mobile to call my bank in England.

In summary, it's a fantastic place, and definitely book the cab with them, as it's a hell of a place to find first time!

The manager was extremely helpful before our arrival always responding immediatley to my queries or requests which was brilliant. We organised an airport pick up which was great after a short 15 minute drive we were at the entrance of the medina where our bag was carried through the maze of alleyways to The Riad.

The riad is in a fantastic location with only a 5 minute walk to the main square. The manager was again very helpful at check in giving us a map and highlighting points of interest and giving us directions and a nice cup of coffee.

Our room was lovely we stayed in one of the suites which was very oppulent and traditional in decoration. The bed was big and comfy, the shower was good, we had dressing gowns and everything we needed. The only slightly annoying thing about the room was a glass shoot which runs through the room from the roof to the kitchen below, it was very pretty and nice to let the light in through the stain glass windows but in the morning it was quite noisy as you could hear everything that was being said or done in the kitchen below. not ideal but not that big a deal, although it did make you feel that it wasnt that private.
I must stress that this was the only niggle we had with the hotel at all, the breakfast was nice a range of french bread, pancakes and crumpets with fruit and yogurts and fresh orange juice and the best thing was that you could have it whenever you liked! i hate having to get up for breakfast between 8-9am when you are on holiday but here that was not the case! yey!

The dinner we had included in our 3 night stay was also amazing! The riad is very romatic at night time with all the lanterns lit and the pool lights on, we had the riad to ourselves and a 3 course home cooked meal which was delicious!

The hotel also arranged our day trip out to the Atlas Mountains which was fantastic! a word of advise though take some good walking shoes as you have the option of going on a 1-2 hour hike in the mountains to see the waterfalls which is a must! It is stunning scenery and really good fun! albeit quite dangerous! We also visited a berber house and it was lovely to see another side to the way of life in Morroco. I would recommend!

We found everything to be very reasonably priced and of course a bit of haggerling is always acceptable.
The 2 resturants we visited at night were really nice - The Marrakeshi located in the main square, ( i would adivse you to pre-book and ask to sit on the second floor). and as a treat on the last night we went to Le Comptior (again needs to be booked which our hotel did for us no problems at all) which was brilliant! they have a nightly belly dancing show which was very impressive, it is a very romantic resutrant and fun night out.

In the day time the markets are great to wonder through and getting lost is part of the fun, we also went to El Badi Palace which was beautful and it has a viewing area over the town and was only £1 to enter.

Marrakesh is a fantsic place to visit for many reasons, we had a fabulous holiday and Riad Lorsya will not let you down...and i am pretty picky!

We would like to thank them for making us feel so at home and their exceptional customer service and friendlyness! We would love to go back and hire out the whole place!

We have just returned from the most amazing stay in the most amazing riad in the most amazing city! A lot of amazing's I know, but it really was, AMAZING! Collected at the airport, i have to say, you must have the transfer, unless you've been before, you would never find your way. The driver was very helpful, however it was a surprise when at 8 o'clock at night in the middle of Marrakech he stopped the car, removed our cases from the boot of the car and placed them into the "wheel barrow" of a little arab man with the instruction to follow. We set off at speed through the medina in what has to be decribed as an enourmous culture shock. For 10-15 mins we followed through the busy, loud, colourful, busy, smelly, busy, ever shrinking streets of the old town. On arrival at a huge wooden door, at the bottom a small, dingy alleyway our barrow man rang the bell, the door opened and there stood Abdul, his welcoming face and greeting instantly relaxing a pair of shell shocked foreigners. He sat us down, fetched some coffee and talked us through the map that he provided.
This Riad is beautiful, a real calm paradise in a totally crazy city. Abdul showed us to our room, the sherhezade suite, a really beautiful room, we looked at all four of the rooms and to be honest they are all lovely, the two suites give a little more space. The place is so calm, quiet and relaxing, as is Abdul who goes a million miles up and above the call of duty, nothing is too much trouble. Ilyias (the manager) and the two ladies that cook and clean are all equally as helpful, they all provide the best service i have ever experienced anywhere in the world. Abdul leant us 500 Dirhams of his own money and at 10pm we set off into the chaos to have our first experience of Jeema el f'na (main square, Abdul shows you the way). All I can say is WOW. We walked around for about half an hour, its difficult to describe but has to be experienced, its intimidating at first, the whole city i mean, alleyways full of morrocan men wearing big cloaks, not doing anything but standing, looking, but actually thats all they are doing. There are beggars, people hassling you to buy stuff, women who try to tattoe your hand, with or without your permission, snake charmers, story tellers, impromptue boxing matches, the colourful water sellers and much much more. You quickly learn how to handle it though, a sturn "LA" (no) usually works. Please don't let any of this put you off, the benefits of this Riad and city far out weigh any negatives There is a large selection of mobile restaurants in the middle of the square, with many permanant ones around the outside. The maps are pretty useless, especially inside the medina, expect to get lost, but don't worry about it, you always find your way in the end or a young lad on a pushbike will show you the way, 5 dirhams will let him have a game in the local playstation cafe for his efforts. A day in the Atlas mountains is a must, the people are so open and friendly, the mountains so beautiful, a real honour to sit and drink tea with the Berber people in their own home.
We found two bars in the medina that serve alcohol, one, the Cafe Arabe is just two mins walk from the riad, serves good food and most days was the final port of call before crashing at the riad. The other was the Kosy bar, located close to the Bahia palace, not bad food but prefered the previous.
We ate out at the Bo & Zin which was really good, the food was excellent, the atmos too, not cheap but very nice. However the next night, valentines night we went to Le Comptoir, We absolutely loved it, the atmosphere was fantastic, the food and service superb, belly dancers and musicians, a night neither of us will ever forget! oh yes and we got engaged!!
I would recomend this Riad to anyone, infact i would insist that you stay here, perfect location, perfect atmosphere, perfect service but most of all it has ABDUL!

Everything about our experience with the Lorsya was absolutely wonderful. Marrakech is an amazing city it will blow your mind. Outside the medina it's a modern bustling city but stepping into the huge medina is like travelling back in time. Buried in the quiet back alleyways is the Lorsya which is indeed an oasis in a medina that is manic. It´s perfectly placed within easy walk of all the action of the souks and Jmaa el fna.The staff were extremely helpful right from when we made the booking to our arrival, our stay, and the moment we left. They were discreet but always on hand if you needed them and they always exceeded expectations. They were happy to advise on everything from transport, restaurants, locations, normal prices etc. Indeed we should have asked them for a restaurant recommendation. Other guests heeded their advice to go to the Cafe Arabe just a few minutes walk away (Abdul will show you the way) which was just gorgeous. It was so cool and chic with several different areas to eat in, depending on your mood. We unfortunately followed our guides books recommendations to begin with and ended up most unfortunately at Le Tobsil was overall a dreadful experience.
The room we had, the Sherazade suite was divine, so evocative of the dark, alluring, mysterious Marrakech. It was luxurious and spacious and beautifully decorated. The riad has lots of nooks and crannies with several levels of roof terrace and you can eat or relax in any of them. The meal they provided on the first night was very good and breakfasts were excellent. Wine is not easy to come by in the medina but the staff ensured that a chilled bottle was always on hand.
We can't wait to go back to Marrakech if only just to sit on street corners and watch the teeming life. Everything on the streets from donkeys to limos, hand pulled carts to men carrying sheep on pushbikes! And when we do go back, we'll definitely stay at the Lorsya again.
