I stayed at Quaryati Eco-lodge over the christmas/New Year period for a week with a friend. We were greeted at the airport in the middle of the night by a very helpful and friendly staff member who drove us back to the lodge which is a 45minute drive, most of which was down a bumpy, dusty road. However in the morning we woke to the Atlas mountains, a beautiful garden and amazing wildlife.
We found the staff to be helpful and kind throughout our holiday despite the fact that they were completely overworked. Websites mention that this lodge is multilingual unfortunately English was not one of the languages known to staff with the exception of the manager who was not always available. It was fun however to learn Arabic and French phrases to try and communicate with staff, who took it all in good humour. Unfortunately it was difficult just to order a drink or ask what was on the menu as there was no menu listing or pricing available at any time of the day and we couldn't ask due to the language barrier. The drinks menu wasn't up to date and we were charged more than the price listed when we ordered a drink from the menu provided. Not only was there no menu, there was also no set time for dinner. There was also no other food available if you did not want to eat at the time the food was ready, which differed each night. Unless you could clearly explain your dietry requirements in the spoken languages you were served and charged for a set 3 course meal of soup, tagine and a dessert. Full credit to the kitchen staff because the food was exceptional when it did arrive.
On New Years eve we went to have lunch only to find a sign posted on the door (in French and English this time) stating that no lunch would be served all day as they were preparing for the New Year dinner which would be served after 9pm. In the end, food was not served until well after midnight and no other food was available beforehand. We were also not informed that the New Year celebration would cost 800DH per person (this is what the manager told us separately, it may have not been consistent for every guest who attended) and that would include dinner, alcohol, music and brunch the following day even if breakfast was included in your package holiday that you had already paid for. There was no alternative provided to us in terms of food and so we ended up not eating for the whole day because we could not get any food.
Shuttles were available for free once a day - 9.30am to be taken into the centre of Marrackech and between 4.00pm and 5.00pm collected from the Medina (centre) back to Quaryati. |f you wanted to go or be collected at any other times it cost you a little less than it would a taxi fare.
There were no shops anywhere nearby to access any kind of food. Luckily we managed to get to a super market a couple of times when out in the city.
On our stay we were extremely fortunate with the weather and when we decided to stay at the hotel we were always grateful for the serenity and the friendly locals around the farming community.
We later found out we had had our room downgraded from what we had paid for. During our 6 night stay, the bedding was only changed once, towels were not changed daily and there was no Wifi, no Golf Course and no basic amenities guaranteed as stated such as kettle and hair dryer, when we had purchased our accommodation package. Please make sure you pack these things in your suitcase to avoid disappointment!
On our second to last night we had a problem with the plumbing in our room and we could not sleep because of the noise and could not locate a staff member as there was no staff available. The lodge was locked up and there was no phone or contact measures in our room to contact the reception desk so we were unable to find any staff onsight and had to endure the night listening to the pipes making ridiculous squealing noises.
We would've gladly expected this had we been staying at a backpackers lodge but not for the money we paid to stay at a "4 star" accommodation.
If we hadn't stayed here we wouldn't have met such lovely people (staff and guests) which made our stay worthwhile even with the disappointments mentioned above.
At times we did feel that had we been travelling with a male our time there might have been an overall better experience than the two of us females travelling together.

Room Tip: Make sure you get the room you paid for.

I stayed at Quaryati for fifteen days, over Christmas and new year. The holiday was booked as a very last minute affair, so I had done no research on either Quaryati or Marrakech before setting off. This was a good thing, as I think that had I seen that it is 15 or so miles from Marrakech I would have opted for something more central. As it happens Quaryati is perfectly positioned, half way between the city and the mountains. As Marrakech turned out to be overly touristic for me, and noisy, chaotic and polluted to boot, three day trips there in the 15 days in Morocco was enough, and to have to fight ones way out of the city each time a trip to the mountains was arranged would have been a nightmare. The position is also ideal as Françoise, the hostess, arranged a lift into Marrakech each day for free, for anyone who wanted it, and at a time that we chose.
During my stay, there were several guests who had booked hotels in Marrakech, and came for 2 or 3 days relaxation away from the city in the capable hand of Françoise and her impeccable staff. To say more about Françoise, she has been in the tourism trade for over thirty years, mostly in Morocco, and this shows. She knows that guests are on holiday for a variety of reasons, and knows how to cater for all of them, be it doing nothing by the pool (with the peacocks looking on), doing the tourist trail through the souks, medina and casbahs, or loosing yourself in the mountains.
All in all, a fantastic hotel and staff (and I forgot to mention the delicious local food), ideal as either a location for an event or short stay, or a base from which to explore Morocco.

Room Tip: I booked the cheapest room, but as the lodge was only half full I got an upgrade to a suite without asking, which is typical of the attitude at Quaryati

Myself and my partner recently returned from a weeks break over the Christmas and new year period at this hotel.

On arrival, we were greeted by Francoise, a very friendly welcome, and we were left to drink mint tea. Our room was extremely pleasant - a suite overlooking the gardens with a superb view of the mountains, and a lovely sun trap for most of the day. The bed was also very comfortable - nice soft pillows, and its was great to have a comfy duvet !.

We ate lunch and dinner here most days - the tagines were varied every day and were always very tasty and made with local grown produce. All the staff were very friendly and helpful - yes, the English barrier is a little bit of a problem sometimes, but it's a great reason to learn some more french, and we had some great fun explaining to Yousef in the mornings how we wanted our eggs - by the method of charades !. The great thing with this place is the laid back feeling - and you soon learn that if you want something, you just have to ask.

This Ecolodge gives you the feeling of being part of an extended family, and during our week here we met some great people and generally felt very at home with everyone staying there. The grounds within the complex are lovely and well maintained, and the peacocks roaming the gardens give the place a tropical feel.

New years eve was a fantastic night - Francoise hosted a party with plenty of drinks, food, wine and entertainment all through the night - it was certainly one of our more memorable new years. The traditional tent outside, with fires burning and a crystal clear night sky added to the ambiance.

We can thoroughly recommend this place to anyone who just wants a chilled break where you can still enjoy the bustle of the city, but escape when it gets too much !.

Thanks to Francoise again for being such a good hostess, and to all her staff for making this one of our more memorable trips - for all the right reasons !.

We hope to be back...

I stayed there with a big gruop for a wedding party and it was just perfect.
It is a beautiful place in a wonderful landscape. The food food was delicious and typical moroccan. Francoise and her team were really nice, always attentive and made us feel comfortable everytime.
Even if the Quaryati is about 30 minutes away from Marakesch it was never a problem to get there and back any time.

I will come back to the Quaryati and i can recommend this place to everybody, who wants to feel the spirit of Morocco.

Room Tip: I had the cheapest and it was perfect, big, clean, with TV

We stayed there for 3 nights and had the most amazing time. When flying into Marrakech we had a pretty good overview of the hotels surrounding the city with their multi storey concrete complexes and the typical pool setting in the middle of an overlandscaped garden, that you get when booking the standard package holiday in any country - a far cry from what we were after - so we were starting to wonder whether Quaryati would keep up with our idea of a more authentic setting and especially with the image that the photos on their website create. And all there is to say is: if anything it exceeded expectations and didnt disappoint one bit. Scenery, accommodation, food, staff, service, owner and location - it ticks all the boxes and is a perfect base to both explore Morocco in day trips or relax poolside and do nothing for a while - we really didnt want to leave at all.

You need to arrange a driver or drop off for anything you want to do and there is nothing else out there in terms of food, bars or shopping but we didnt miss a thing as everything is provided for and after all the hustle and bustle of Marrakech is only a 25min drive.
