My daughter (20) and I met Fatima recently in Marrakech. We had the BEST day with her - shopping and then cooking the most delicious tagine. We cannot recommend her more highly. Her English is excellent, she is very intelligent, knows her stuff and is warm and funny. DO NOT under any circumstance miss this experience while in Morocco. We loved our very full day with her. Bless you Fatima for looking after us so well and showing us the true sides of Marrakech.

If you have an extra day in Marrakesh, and if you are interested in Moroccan cuisine, this is a highly recommended activity.

Fatima starts from the spice market, where you can learn, and taste, so much that most tourists won't get a chance. Then we go to buy olives, oil, vegetables, and finally, the meat for the main dish that we'll cook for that day. That's the part that not everybody feels comfortable with, because we must go to the market to pick the live animals and kill them on the sight. -- Even though I'm not vegetarian, I don't like to participate or view the killing. So I choose to stay away from the market. -- This is purely personal.

Then we drive out of town to get to Fatima's house. She has a lovely courtyard with plenty of trees and flowers. She can supply herself some fruits and spices!

By then it's already lunch time. We are all hungry. Fatima feeds us with some simply snacks. Then the cooking starts.

Fatima has two very friendly assistants who help us in cooking. We cook so much that it's like a banquet in the end! It's not much about the food, but the experience is so much fun!

In the end Fatima drives us back in town around 5pm. You don't need dinner for that day, that's for sure!

Fatima has a strong character. She is a very independent and courageous woman. Her life story is worth writing a book about! It's very interesting chatting with her.

The only thing to complain is that Fatima was almost 20 minutes late and she didn't call to inform anybody. But overall, it was a great experience!

Whilst we were in Marrakesh we did many activities, but of all the ones i did this was by far the most amazing experience.
Fatima is a wonderful and fantastic guide/host/teacher. It is a a day of pure eating and enjoying the wonderful tastes of Moroccan food.

We start off in the spice market being taken to a spice shop and shown the use of all the different spices, you also get to sample all the spices to see their flavours. Next you are taken to the collect your veg, we were also shown an olive salesman and again got to sample olives and some dried meat.

Following this you are then taken to the veg and meat market, where you help Fatima pick out all the veg that is needed to make the Tagines. At the meat market you get a choice of Lamb or chicken, however if you want you can ask for a special request of rabbit or turkey also. Now i want to say when taken to the meat market it is live stock (excluding the lamb) so the chickens are killed fresh there and then, not directly in front of you and you do not see the gory details but still for some people that were on the tour they did not like this part. I am not sure if the rabbit or turkey would be the same but there are live rabbits and turkeys too.

After the market you are taken out of Marrakesh to a Berber village and to the home of Fatima. It is a lovely little oasis. A beautiful garden with orange trees and herbs and flowers. When you arrive you are given a light snack of bread/olives/oils and cheese, then you get stuck in to the making of your tagine. Everything is explained well and Fatima is there every step of the way to help you and answer any questions. I would suggest to bring and pen and paper if you want to get the recipes from her, she is more than happy to tell you.

The food you make is plentiful, a tagine, spring rolls baba ghanoush, and a dessert. You also go to the local baker and collect your bread which is freshly baked and still hot.

It was a fantastic day and I cannot recommend enough Fatima and her assistants on the excellent experience we had. Also compared to other cooking experiences this is a better value for money. We did research other learn to cook Tagines options but they were shorter (4 hours or so) and cost a lot more. For 500 Dirhams you get an all day experience from 10am-5pm and you are let into a real moroccan home compared to a hotel kitchen.

(Just to add you can also request a wine to be served with your meal, the gentlemen that brings is a neighbor of Fatima and didn’t even charge the group for it, very kind of him)

Spending the day with Fatima was the best decision we made while in Marrakech. Truly an unique experience.
Started the day going to the markets to pick out ingredients. When we arrived at Fatima's house a true gem of a garden made the setting for a cooking course we'll never forget.
If we were to recommend one thing to do while in Marrakech it's this class!!!
