“Beautiful hotel and location”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 22 June 2014

We ended our vacation to Morocco by the city of Marrakech. We stayed at Olema, a small hotel in the very old historic city. Once who has never experienced such amazing city cannot understand other special feeling. We also had a great chance to stay at Riad Olema, a traditional Moroccan home run as a hotel. It is a comfortable and friendly place to stay in an amazing setting (the lively small streets, markets). Sandy made sure that everything was smooth for us, she advised us on excursions, restaurants and local habits. The hotel is privately run with services of a true hotel. We also liked our nicely decorated room, so romantic, the generous typical breakfats, the couscous, the spa on the roof terrace. In short the perfect location.

We never had a chance to travel to Morocco before, this is thus our very first experience in the country. We trusted our friends advising us to experience a true Moroccan lifestyle by staying in a traditionnal and authentic riad. We choose Olema and we were more than happy. First of all Sandy welcomes you with the traditional mint tea and home cooked pastries, than she gives you plenty of hints to make your stay safe and fun. We loved the Riad's concept, the atmosfere of a guest house (only 8 rooms) and facilities of a hotel. We spend a lovely week having enough time to travel around. We also loved the in-house spa, very convenient and very good prices. Only one recommendation : try it!

Beautiful forniture, extremely gentle staff, very good organization, I would defenetely recommend it. We arrived late and they made us dinner despite the hour and the special requests of my father, which they met perfectly. An Oasis in Marrakesch.

A very good riad, in one of the best locations in Marrakech, right in between the old city center and the ville nouvelle. Loved the roof terrace with the jacuzzi, as well as the great staff!
Fully agree with other reviewers that 4 days in Marrakech is more than enough.

Stayed for 5 nights after taking weeks to decide where to stay from the hundreds of Riads available. Would definitely recommend staying in a Riad rather than a resort type hotel outside of the medina so you get to really experience morocco.
Would also strongly recommend that you use the riad's airport transfer service (€15) or you would never find it.

The riad is down a little side street, you would never know it was there but once you open the door it is amazing. All the decor and furniture are like new. The roof terrace is lovely to relax and sunbathe - we were lucky with hot sunny weather in feb. At night they light log fires in the lounges, really cosy.

Our room by the pool was small but adequate and the bathroom was basic but we really liked it. The pool was too cold to use - I can't imagine it is warm enough even in summer - but there was a warmer jacuzzi on the roof terrace.

The staff are very polite and helpful. There is no safe in the room but we left money, iPads, phones etc out and all were untouched. There are only 8 rooms I think and you hardly see anyone else. It feels like your own private Riad.

It's a good 15/20min walk into the main square & souks but it is very entertaining when you get there! Exactly what you'd expect - snake charmers, music, food stalls etc.

It's also a 15/20 min walk outside the medina to Gueliz which is nice to have a more upmarket lunch.

Alcohol isn't served in most places and where it is served it's relatively expensive (£4 a small beer). Food on the other hand is inexpensive, there are stalls and small kiosk shops selling bottled water and crisps/choc type snacks everywhere. Restaurants in the medina aren't the best quality, a main course is approx £5-£8. In Gueliz approx double.

In the medina, there is real poverty and the streets are pretty dirty - but it's a poor country so it should only be what you expect to find. We were two girls and we sometimes got stared at but we were assured by the Riad staff it was safe for us to walk around at night etc and we were fine. I think they rule with a pretty firm hand and know not to hassle tourists, that said, you obviously do have to be a bit careful.

A great trip - I'd definitely stay at olema again if I came back. I think 3 or 4 nights would be enough to experience everything Marrakech has to offer.

We stayed here for a 3 night break and from being collected at the airport to being driven back our stay was great. Service was wonderful such kind and nice staff with a great manageress. They could not do enough. The food was lovely and we even managed to have breakfast on the roof terrace which was delightful. As a frequent traveller both personally and for work this was one of the nicest places I have stayed.

An oasis in the madness of Marrakech, fantastic and attentive staff, friendly bees, and a great atmosphere. The old town is an assault on your senses, and it's nice to see the contrast with modern morocco with funky restaurants and bars. The Sky Bar at the Pearl Hotel is not to be missed.....a expensive swim, but great view and ambience.
