We loved this Riad. Me and my two children stayed here for three nights in May 2012. After our hectic introduction to the Medina's street life (which is initially quite shocking for the children who had never left Europe) the Riad was a haven. Incredibly clean and calm with both a plant filled roof terrace and a little pool in the central courtyard where a bird filled tree grows right up to the sky and there are numerous well attended plants in pots. The children adored the pool and were in it as often as possible. The lady running the Riad was very thoughtful, informative and friendly (in french). The breakfast was delicious. Incredibly light fresh crusty bread with creamy butter and honey, fresh orange juice and coffee. What could be better?

We were the only guests in the hotel which is small in any case and had the whole place to ourselves in the evenings which was magical. I tended to watch the moon and stars and enjoy the calls to prayer on the roof terrace, and the children played in the pool or surfed the internet with the efficient WiFi. I imagine they do evening meals in the busier periods but not on this occasion so we were a little lost as to what to do for supper as the main square and restaurants are a little way off. I would have appreciated some coffee/tea making facilities for a reassuring beverage!

The Riad is situated near one of the Medina Gates which means there is a walk through the old Medina streets before arriving at the more touristy area around Djemma el Fna. We enjoyed this short daily walk which gave us a fascinating glimpse into the real day to day life of Marrakech.

The next time we come to Morocco we will definitely return.

This riad was very clean and a wonderful place to return to after a day's exertions in the city. It was cool, incredibly clean and we found the staff to be friendly and helpful although Fatima and Saida spoke only French and Arabic. So, you need to have some French! Our biggest problem was the location; one felt a bit of a prisoner at times because it was an effort to get out easily to eat at the Jemaa el Fna.Whilst arguably quaint, the alleyways were rutted and very polluted with motorcycle fumes and dust from roadworks. The walk to the Jemaa took 20 minutes and we ended up walking to the Bab Aylen and getting a taxi. Those who don't sleep well might be bothered by the call to prayer in the small hours from the mosque next door but to me, that's part of the experience. If we went again, we would look for a riad closer to the Jemaa.

Having read some glowing reviews on here, we were quite disappointed with this riad. Rather than helpful and friendly as suggested by others, the staff were quite disinterested and even made us feel like we were in the way at times. Also, if you don't speak almost fluent French or Arabic, they don't want to know. I speak conversational French and picked up a bit of Arabic but it was as if it wasn't good enough to warrant anything more than the most cursory 'oui' or 'non' from Fatima and Saida.

The excursions that they 'organise' are very expensive, as were drinks (I'm talking about water, not wine) - double or triple what you'd pay at the square. We were also very disappointed to find that the riad does not serve dinner as mentioned previously (perhaps they recently stopped doing it) as we were planning on eating here at least a couple of times during our week long stay.

The square - the hub you have to leave from to get nearly anywhere - is approx 20 mins walk away. This is fine for the first few days of a stay but becomes quite a hassle if you stay here any longer. Remember as well that this isn't a leisurely stroll, but a slog through extremely busy, fume-filled alleyways. Of course, many streets are like this in Marrakech but you don't necessarily want it every single evening when retiring to your riad to relax.

On the up side, Tchina is very clean - spotless in fact - and the pool is a welcome burst of cool on a hot day. The roof terrace is nice enough (but there's no view as it is surrounded by walls). Breakfast is served even if you have a lazy day and get up at 11!

I wish I could be more positive but really felt let down by this place after having high hopes to begin with. Try one for a similar price slightly closer to the square or in the Nouvelle Ville that is a bit more welcoming. Absolutely loved Marrakech but riad Tchina was the lowest point I'm afraid.

Riad Tchina was an unexpected delight in the heart of Marrakesh. From a narrow alley through a black door there was an oasis of calm. We were greeted warmly by Fatima who had arranged a transfer from the airport for us. All the rooms were immaculate and colourfully decorated. Bed linen and towels were changed each day. The aircon was very efficient. Everything we needed was there, and Fatima or one of the staff were always on hand to provide anything else we wanted. They were very helpful, gave us advice, and arranged taxis and excursions for us. The pool, although small, was a welcome addition after a hot, dusty day sightyseeing. A roof terrace provided a perfect place to relax with a drink in the evening. The Riad is situated in the heart of the local community, away from touristy areas, but we viewed this as a positive. The daily walk through the local area to the Place gave us the opportunity to experience real Marrakeshi life (about 20 mins). It was well worth it and much better than staying in a characterless hotel. We had the pleasure to meet the owner while we were there, and were able to tell him personally how wonderful we thought his Riad was. This is a real gem!

We have just spent a week in this fantastic riad. Right in the heart of the medina, down one of the many alleys, the plain black door opens onto a little paradise. It is so peaceful and beautifully kept. Clean sheets and towels every day - everything is sparkling clean. The staff are incredibly helpful and will do everything to accommodate you. Fatima arranged an excursion for us and booked several taxis and they were really good value.
Brilliant!

We had a great week in this Riad. It was about a 25 minute walk to the centre of the medina - dodging motorbikes, bikes, and crowds of other pedestrians - but we found it a good base for the week. Despite the huge business on the main road, the riad was peaceful and beautifully maintained. We felt very welcome - even though we only arrived at 1am due to a delay on Royal Air Maroc.

This was our first trip to Morocco and Riad Tchina was the perfect place to stay. It took a bit of finding (i guess like most riads in the medina) but once you do, you won't be disappointed. Fatima and everyone at the riad were really friendly and helpful. Be sure to take your french phrase book with you though. Our room was lovely and clean and nicely decorated, as was the breakfast room. The breakfast was a simple but tasty combination of bread, pancakes and pastries. The roof terrace was lovely but unfortunately it was too cold to go in the plunge pool!

The riad is on the far east side of the medina about 20 minute walk from Place Jema El Fna (the big square!) but the actual walk is exciting in itself and you really get to see a slice of local life away from the big square and some of the more touristy areas.

If you are arranging your own transfers from the airport, top tip is to give Fatima a call and she will sort it out for you (they have a 'man'). You will get there cheaper and in more comfort.

We will definitely return one day!
