“The perfect family holiday!!”
Reviewed 14 April 2013

We took our 5,3 and 2 year old children to Villas Fawakay for what turned out to be the most magical family holiday imaginable. We arrived in the dark and woke up to what looked like a snap shot from a national geographic magazine... Snow capped Atlas Mountains in the distance, Berber villages in the middle distance and beautiful gardens and a sparkling pool below out room. We were in Villa Lak Lak which was perfect for our family. My husband and I were in the ground floor room and the children shared the upstairs suite - our youngest in a travel cot in the vast en suite bathroom which worked perfectly. There was a Berber tent at the bottom of our garden - our children loved eating breakfast in there, in the Summer months I suspect there would have been pleas to sleep outside!
Breakfast each morning was mouthwatering - a glittering array of pan cakes, fresh fruit, fresh bread, waffles, boiled eggs, local jams and honey and zingingly fresh orange juice, delivered to our terrace table as the sun as just starting to heat up for the day. The children (used to a couple of weetabix) were in 7th heaven! .... As was Doris the 'pet donkey' who often dozed alongside our table at mealtimes much to our 2 years olds joy..
We took the children camel riding, to lunch at villa Arabe in the souks, in a horse and cart around the medina, to the majorelle gardens and spent hours playing the the pool and with Ziggy the son of the owners who made firm friends with our five year old.
My husband and I did plan to go out for dinner in Marrakech - a very easy 15 minute drive from Villas Fawakay, but the food was so lovely (rustic, masses of fresh ingredients and very very tasty) and the option to sit in front of a roaring fire (blissfully warm during the day but the temp dropped at around 4pm) in our private 'in villa' dining room, whilst the children slept soundly above us, that we didn't bother in the end. We met some friends at the hotel who did go to one of the highly recommended restaurants in Marrakech but surmised that the food was nothing like as good as at Villas Fawakay and wished they hadn't bothered...
To go on a family villa holiday, with hotel service and not a children's club in sight was heaven... This is a very very special place...

We stayed at villas fawakay over the new year for a short break in some much needed sun having come from london. We had the whole place to ourselves and the staff were very attentive and Francis was a great host giving us tips on where to eat and things to do and also accomodating a last minute meal for us when our dinner plans fell through one night. The highlight were the multitude of animals that kept our 2 year old son constantly entertained especially Doris the donkey who he still recalls 4 months later!
Only drawback is that although the days were beatuiful the nights were a lot colder than we had expected and even though we had a beautiful fire lit every evening the rooms are more adapted for the warmer environment. Floors may benefit from a few more thicker rugs for those months. However, more encouragement for a trip in the spring next time.
Would definitely recommend this place to young families!

Thank you very much for your review, we enjoyed having you to stay with us. We appreciate that the nights are quite cold here in winter and do want it to be comfortable without resorting to fitted carpets and central heating. We are pleased that so many of our guests enjoy the open fires and do totally take on board your request for more rugs for our few chilly months.

Celebrating a 50th birthday with a group of friends, VIllas Fawakay was the perfect venue. Plenty of privacy for our family but with great communal areas to dip in and out of the bigger group. We loved the beautiful gardens ...a riot of roses in bud and vibrant bougainvillaea and the children made friends with the resident donkey, Doris as well as peacocks, toads and tortoise .At times it had a surreal Alice in Wonderland feel.
With the fantastic views of the imposing Atlas Mountains in the distance and a week of glorious sunshine one could be forgiven for doing nothing other than relax by the pool on the many comfortable seating/lying options. We made use of the varied outdoor library and I Pod dock as our party were alone. We enjoyed a traditional music troop organised by the owners as also was a henna artist ,which the teenagers loved. Francis and Dawn were great at organising instant taxis for spur of the moment raids on the Souk. The food was authentic and filling and best of all healthy and luckily diluted Francis excellent Gin and Tonics .Would have liked a big bowl of yogurt to go with the lovely fresh fruit at breakfast . The biggest luxury was having an evening fire lit in our room when the sun went down giving out a warm exotic aroma. Dawns decorative touch was evident throughout the accomodation and lying in the deep stone bath below a beautifully intricate lamp with the terrace door ajar to look at the mountains will be a lasting memory of this enjoyable week.

Room Tip: Upstairs villas have views and balcony.....downstairs lovely terrace and plunge pool. The new enlarg...

I booked the whole Fawakay site for my Husband's 50th celebrations. We ranged in age from 1 to 73 and everybody had a wonderful time. The site is an oasis of chic relaxation with wonderfully romantic rooms and lovely gardens. I fear we gave Francis some late nights at the bar with much singing and dancing, however I think it takes more than a few merry 50 year olds to Shake Francis' calm demeanour. He even came up with a few interesting alcohol combinations that added to the party atmosphere. The party evening itself was such fun with lovely food and entertainment and created the sort of memories that last a lifetime. We all laughed a lot at the antics of the resident animals with Doris having a few successful raids on our kitchen; she has a liking for chocolate and pringles. Thank you Dawn and Francis for a memorable and relaxing holiday.

Just returned from a week at Villas Fawakay celebrating the birthday of a dear friend. It was the perfect venue for us, a party of 22 and a baby, as we were able to take over all of the villas. The food was traditional Moroccan, rustic and very delicious - not enough couscous for me! - the villas were very comfortable, made more so by the lighting of fires in the evening to make them very cosy. Francis was the consumate host and it was so easy just to settle the bar bill, taxi fares , and beauticians at the end of the week. Dawn was not quite so present but gave us a day of her time helping us negotiate the alleyways of the souk and advising on the best way to haggle! A bunch of hardworking frazzled people returned to the UK thoroughly partyed out and rested. Thank you Dawn and Francis

This was the perfect getaway for our little family. We are a couple from West London, with a year and half old toddler, and we couldn't have asked for more from our week break in the sun. The villas and rooms are really comfortable, there's a lovely pool and bar, and a top notch clay tennis court if the fancy takes you. But the two things that really make this so special are the staff and the location. The family and their extended family of staff are so kind, thoughtful, gentle and helpful. We ate delicious food, learnt how to cook it and often had our little one swept up into a member of staff's arms and taken off on an adventure to see Doris the donkey. Plus the location makes Marrakech and the medina with it's souks easily accessible in a twenty minute cab journey. This is a very special place. Only note of caution would be to say you need to keep an eye on toddlers with the (albeit magical!) plunge pools on your villa porches...

A beautiful retreat within easy reach of the city, with delicious authentic food, friendly staff and a really relaxing atmosphere. The villas are stunning and the grounds and pool area are too. We really enjoyed our visit here and would definitely be keen to return.
