We took our 5,3 and 2 year old children to Villas Fawakay for what turned out to be the most magical family holiday imaginable. We arrived in the dark and woke up to what looked like a snap shot from a national geographic magazine... Snow capped Atlas Mountains in the distance, Berber villages in the middle distance and beautiful gardens and a sparkling pool below out room. We were in Villa Lak Lak which was perfect for our family. My husband and I were in the ground floor room and the children shared the upstairs suite - our youngest in a travel cot in the vast en suite bathroom which worked perfectly. There was a Berber tent at the bottom of our garden - our children loved eating breakfast in there, in the Summer months I suspect there would have been pleas to sleep outside!
Breakfast each morning was mouthwatering - a glittering array of pan cakes, fresh fruit, fresh bread, waffles, boiled eggs, local jams and honey and zingingly fresh orange juice, delivered to our terrace table as the sun as just starting to heat up for the day. The children (used to a couple of weetabix) were in 7th heaven! .... As was Doris the 'pet donkey' who often dozed alongside our table at mealtimes much to our 2 years olds joy..
We took the children camel riding, to lunch at villa Arabe in the souks, in a horse and cart around the medina, to the majorelle gardens and spent hours playing the the pool and with Ziggy the son of the owners who made firm friends with our five year old.
My husband and I did plan to go out for dinner in Marrakech - a very easy 15 minute drive from Villas Fawakay, but the food was so lovely (rustic, masses of fresh ingredients and very very tasty) and the option to sit in front of a roaring fire (blissfully warm during the day but the temp dropped at around 4pm) in our private 'in villa' dining room, whilst the children slept soundly above us, that we didn't bother in the end. We met some friends at the hotel who did go to one of the highly recommended restaurants in Marrakech but surmised that the food was nothing like as good as at Villas Fawakay and wished they hadn't bothered...
To go on a family villa holiday, with hotel service and not a children's club in sight was heaven... This is a very very special place...
