“Absolutely wonderful!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 8 November 2010

This was our third trip to Villas Fawakay, and as before we had a wonderful stay.
Dawn and Francis were perfect hosts - nothing was too much trouble.
They happily organised excursions for us, and recommended some wonderful restaurants that we would have otherwise missed.
We would (and have) recommend Villas fawakay to anybody

We had a fantastic week at Villa Fawakay. We stayed in Villa Lak Lak which was beautifully presented, including a great sun terrace and two great bathrooms. With two energetic kids in tow we were looking for a location where everyone would have fun and we definately chose the right place. The kids loved it all - unlimited pool time, kittens, dogs, peacocks and Doris the donkey. We loved the relaxing atmosphere, staff who were efficient and courtious, and delicious food every day. Another great plus point was the ability to go for trips to Marrakech and the Altlas Mountains and then escape the hustle and bustle and return to the villa as and when we wanted (usually when the kids were tired). The owners, Francis and Dawn, were lovely and made us feel at home straight away. All in all a great holiday!!!

Dawn and Francis made us feel welcome from the moment we entered this wonderful villa. Our room was perfect, very stylish with everything anyone could ever need for a peaceful retreat from the real world. I cannot recommend this place highly enought. YOU MUST GO!

We go to Marrakech many times during the year and have tried so many of the gorgeaous riads and villas there, but Villas Fawakay is the one place that we always end up wanting to return to due to the amazing decor and wonderful hosts. Nothing is too much trouble for them and this really enhances the stay.

I have read a recent review about the location and the taxi ride into town - this is a peaceful villa that is not intended to be part of the hustle of the medina - although the medina is very easy to access when you want it! From experience the taxi price (and all prices) charged by the hotel are really good value and it makes the holiday a much more stressfree experience to have your own personal concierge service worrying about where you will eat and what you will do!

Really really highly recommended.

A friend and I stayed at the Villa Fawakay for 4 nights in mid-October 2010 and had a very enjoyable trip. The complex has a number of charms but also one or two drawbacks. The villas are a good choice for a couple of days' rest after a few days in central Marrakech - but not totally ideal for a full holiday.

The principal charms are: the stunning grounds, stylishly decorated rooms, nice pool area, friendly and helpful owners (Francis and Dawn), wandering animals, good quality food.

The main drawback is the location - a good 20-30 mins drive to central Marrakech and the taxi fare (for which one is reliant on VF to organise) is not cheap (over £30 for an evening trip). Also the villas are in the middle of what appears to be wasteland so you are somewhat captive - if you don't want dinner in the villas but don't want a long drive, then...well I'm not sure what you do then.

Other less significant drawbacks of our stay included...
- Difficult to communicate with the staff (even eye contact could be awkward).
- The disappearance of the owners on a two day trip to the coast - the standard of service slipped noticably during this period
- Some very loud hammering at times
- Lots of families with kids (we may have been unlucky as two of the kids were particularly noisy)
- Slightly overly laid back attitude at time (a couple of faults with the room were not sorted during our stay)
- Day trips which VF organise are somewhat expensive (some were over £100)

In summary VF is a lovely setting for a relaxing few days but not the perfect base from which to discover Marrakech.

fawakay, Owner at Fawakay Villas, responded to this review, 24 October 2010
I must say I was very surprised to read this review, especially as you said how much you enjoyed being at the villas and how it was 'just what was needed' etc. As for the 'laid-back attitude', I know you had a drip under your sink which, I seem to remember, you mentioned to us saying it was not a problem whatsoever, just so as we knew for the next guests, so I was a little surprised to now read that it was a problem for you.
You came during half term, which is a busy time of year for families travelling with children, so that was probably not the best time of year for you to visit. We are a family-friendly hotel and appreciate that children feel free to enjoy the pools and grounds. We are 15 minutes outside the Medina, slightly longer to the New Town, and taxis are more expensive after 8pm. I also don't remember you taking any trips, some of which are long full day trips (to the coast etc which is 3 hours drive away). I am saddened that you felt it necessary to write a review like this one when you wrote such lovely things in our visitor's book and only wish you had mentioned any gripes you had with your stay at the time.

My wife, 1-year old daughter and I stayed here in early October. I had not realised that we would have our own villa so was very pleasantly surprised by the amount of space we had, especially for our little one to roam around and explore. As the week went on, we grew more and more in love with the place. It really is like a home from home. It helped that the other 2 families staying were delightful so we enjoyed their company when we spent time around the pool together. In fact, one of the couples got married while we were there and apparently Francis and Dawn helped them arrange the wedding. Given that thare are only 3 villas, there was never an issue of the pool becoming crowded, but if you wanted more privacy, you could spend time in your own villa with the little plunge pool.

What makes Fawakay stand out from anywhere else is firstly the hosts and secondly the other more unusual inhabitants! Francis was a 1st class host from the moment we arrived to the moment we left. We enjoyed chatting with, and getting to know, him during the week. We felt like guests in their home without ever feeling we were intruding or indeed that we did not have our own space. The perfect cross between a hotel and a guest house. Francis even saved us by going to the shops to buy us some formula milk when we suddenly ran out and also arranged a couple of trips for us.

It is not often though that you share your space around the pool or the dinner table with a donkey, which is what can happen at times at Fawakay! For us, and in particular our daughter, this was a delight, the fact that we had no idea in advance made it all the more fun, but for those reading the reviews of Fawakay, they will probably come with the expectation of meeting Doris! Our daughter also though loved meeting the guinea fowl, peacocks, goats and other animals that help make Fawakay feel so special.

The food was superb. nothing extravagant, but just very good, tasty home made Moroccan food. there was enough variety to keep us going all week. We were also pleasantly surprised by the quality of the local wine.

the rooms are extremely comfortable and full of character. our villa had a balcony which you could sit on and watch the sun set over the hills.

one piece of advice we would give is to get in touch with the owners in advance and ask them to help arrange a transfer. For reasons apparently to do with local regulations, there are no signs to VF and since it has not been around for too long, our taxi driver took a while to find it, despite stopping to ask locals for directions.

the other piece of advice we could give is simple- spend a week at Villas Fawakay.

Just got back from a great relaxing holiday at Villas Fawakay. Situated a 15-20 minute taxi ride away from Marrakech itself we spent 10 idyllic days, dippping in and out of the mystery that is the medina. Armed with recommended restaurants and cafes from "Team Fawakay", we were able to sample the many delights on offer (to those that know where to find them) whilst knowing that our pre-arranged taxi would be waiting to take us back at a time of our choice. On the days that we did not want to lounge around the infinity pool, soaking up the sun, Francis and Dawn were always on hand to recommend different experiences, whether to the lakes or the mountains. They were truly great hosts (as indeed were their various "pets" including woof and wotsit the dogs and Doris the donkey !). The standard of accomodation we found to be very high , complete with one's own kitchenette from where breakfast and evening meals were served, either outside by one's plunge pool, or in ones room. We both particularly liked the food. Rustic, local and tasty, the chef, Boushra and her team cannot be praised highly enough in our opinion. The owners have obviously put their hearts and souls into designing a holiday retreat where one can relax, indulge, yet thanks to their hands on approach, not miss out on all that Marrakech and its surrounds have to offer. We will be back !!
