“Decent place to stay in Marrakech”
Reviewed 20 January 2014

A little far from the Medina but still a decent place. We've booked an apartment and we we're given two small apartments on different floors with separate beds. Unfortunately, the worst included breakfast. Internet is only reaching the first floor. Decent distance from the airport, with the cab. Next time I would probably stay in the Medina. Clean and quiet all around.

My wife, son and myself stayed here for one night and found it quite ok. nothing flash but for the night it was great. Bit far away from the bustle of the big square where everything is happening. Would stay in a hostel next time for half the price and better location.

We have just returned from a weeks stay in the apart hotel. Booked last minute we were slightly disappointed with the first double room we were given. It was advertised as having a balcony and the pictures make the rooms look a lot bigger than they really are. The following morning we were given a different room with a balcony. The room was much bigger , tidier and alot brighter .
The female receptionist was very helpful and greeted everyone with a smile.
Although quite basic the apart hotel is very good value for money a decent location, although the stated 15 minutes to the medina square is probably only realistic if you have wings . 25 minutes is more realistic.

We stayed hear for 2 nights and loved it nothing posh but very clean . The apartment was great every thing we needed . It was in a lovely area very clean and very safe . The only draw back is the long walk into the square but just strolled along and kept having a sit-down . Takes about 30 mins . Would recommend this hotel

We've just returned from a 9-day trip to this hotel booked as a half-board package with dial-a-flight. The food was terrible, the staff annoying. Certainly not for family's if its your first time out there- trust me. We spent most days lounging at the more agreeable Sofitel - so used it as a base. I would recommend this place for young adventurers who have activities planned to o copy their day.
Wifi is only in the lobby and restaurant, the lights kept going off and our last night was spent in darkness to our lounge - but we were too exhausted to complain again. There is no tv in the bedrooms and the tv in the lounge is set very very high up on the wall. We're all still recovering from whiplash injuries.
Marrakech itself is beautiful, but beware of beggars- they come up straight to you and demand money. Use the bus as often as you can- it's cheaper-4dhs pp. don't take pictures of snake charmers etc, unless you're willing to be harassed to pay for the privilege ( at Djama el Fna),The night souks at this location are delightful but beware of pricing - slash the asking price in half first then take off some more to give yourself some headroom.
And whatever you do, do not go to Chez Ali -it's a tourist trap. Atlas mountain trip combined with camel rides came to 25 euros pp and this was worth it.
My conclusion, stay elsewhere and you will enjoy your trip!

Revisited Marrakesh in May this year with a friend for 6 days. Chose this hotel due to visiting the Sahara for a few days so it was a place to dump our luggage while we were on trips. If you have never been to Morocco before then this may not be the hotel for you. The apartments are certainly for the well travelled or Moroccan families and is MAINLY a base. We had a 2 bed apartment on the 3rd floor. Comes with Kitchenette, bathroom (shower only) living area and a bedroom with balcony with 2 single beds. Kitchenette was provide with all that you needed, including a fridge and worktop cooker . There is a café by reception. There is also a swimming pool at the back of the apartments. The apartments are in the new French section of Marrakesh, with 2 fast food chains 3 streets down and a nice shopping complex i.e. Zara and a selection of nice restarants . The only problem I encountered , on arrival the receptionist/clerk did not ask for hotel payment and after the fourth day I requested that I pay for the apartment due to not wanting any extras to be added onto the bill, they quite happily arranged this. I have travelled through several African countries and had never experienced this before. At the moment there is construction across from the apartments but this did not disturb us but unfortunately the view was not very pleasant.
The apartments were always clean and are supplied with toiletries and towels , the staff were pleasant. This is an African country and for the price and situation of the apartments it was an ideal place to stay but do not have high expectations.
I have rebooked at this hotel/apartment for later this year.

Room Tip: Apartments facing the swimming pool are quitter but are also the 4 person apartments but only get la...

I traveled and stayed at the Hotel Assounfou for 3 nights. The hotel was able to provide an airport pick up service which was very helpful. The hotel is in the Gueliz area of the city which is very modern and has many upscale shops and restaurants with local and western food. It is very conveniently located for getting around the city. The room was very nice. There was a large sitting area, a bedroom with 2 twin beds and a bathroom. There was a television that did get some channels in English.

There is a small pool and a restaurant attached. You must ask the hotel staff to turn on your air conditioning for you. We would have it turned on when we returned in the evenings and then it would be turned off sometime while we were asleep so the room would begin to get hot again by morning. The air conditioner was amazing though as I traveled there in July and the temperature was over 50 C!

The hotel staff was professional but not the most friendly.

I would recommend this hotel for someone looking for nice accomodation in a safe area with a tighter budget.
