Hostel Riad Marrakech Rouge
Reviewed 26 May 2014 via mobile

We were a group of 17 people and stayed for 5 nights in the hostel. We had a wonderful time, the hostel very close to the city main square, the place is clean and you can have a decent shower here and especially the staff is awesome -so friendly and willing to help at any time. The breakfast is included (bread, butter, jam, pastry) and you can have tea or coffee at any time.

A place I highly recommend for a vacation with a group of friends.

Satayed there for 3 nights. The location is very good, although, the map shown in the website is wrong. Better to use the video they put there to locate the place of the hostel. Staff is very kind, and give you a lot of good tips about what to do, but the guys that stay there in the night need some training. They go in the dorm turning on the lights and speaking loudly to show the room to anyone that arrives, no matter the time. Other than this, the common area of the hostel is very nice, but the rooms are not so clean. Neither the bathrooms, but this is a limitation of anyplace that is located in the old riads of Marrakech.

Cannot express how much of a wonderful place this is. My friends and I booked it thinking it was almost TOO cheap. We arrived cautiously and were met by all the staff with big smiles and were very friendly. Though it took a while to sort out what was going on, we were served tea and biscuits whilst we waited. The hostel has so much character and everyone there is so lovely. Great rooftop terrace. We spent so much time here; we went on a desert tour (organised by the hostel which are very reasonably priced) and came back, and then travelled around morocco and again, came back. There were no problems about us coming back, they would always find room for us.

It was also my friends birthday and a few days after mine. Ali got on his bike and got us birthday cakes and we had a big birthday breakfast with everyone. It was just great fun. Normally hostels are "places you just sleep" but here (although there is no air con and you have to fight for fans) you want to be in the hostel so you can just chill with everyone and soak up the atmosphere.

It is close to the main square but be wary of people nearby trying to direct you elsewhere. Always message the hostel and someone will come and meet you to show you where to go. Don't be taken elsewhere!!!!!!!

Miss this place so much, and if I come back to Marrakech, I know exactly where I will be staying.

Thank you Ali, Mohammed and Big Man!!!

Room Tip: If you're going in the hotttt months ask to have a rooftop room - much cooler at night.

We only spent 1 night here, but it was one of the highlights of our trip! We met a number of other travellers from around the world, the staff greeted us with tea and pastries and sat with us for over an hour making plans for the trip, showing us the map and just chatting! We ended up booking the 3 day 2 night desert tour through the hostel for about €90 (we had originally booked a private tour for €180 per person) and I am SO glad we went through the hostel. Group tours are definitely better as the conditions are extreme and my friends and I probably would have gone mad on a private tour. The city is amazing, and take the advice that the guys at the hostel give seriously!

There aren't enough kind words to describe this hostel!! The staff were so friendly and helpful, the atmosphere was spot on and the value for money was incredible! If I ever return to Marrakech I wouldn't consider staying anywhere but Marrakech Rouge. You should open more hostels in other cities!!

top reasons why you would stay here - first, is the location. it's just a 7min walk from the main djemaa el fna. getting to the hostel from the square can be quite confusing, but nothing is not confusing in marrakech anyway :) i've checked other hostels which claim to be near the square too, but you need to remember at least 5 turns to get to them. at marrakech rouge, just remember 3 turns! and voila! Unlike other hostels too, the alleys you need to pass are not as narrow (narrow ones can be quite creepy early morning and at night), so somehow, you get a little sense of security when walking.

second - the people. the staff are just amazing. they are the friendliest people i've met in the city. from the moment i met hamuda (the tall moroccan staff guy), you can't just frown on him because he is all smiles and warm. all the staff are willing to assist you with anything so don't hesitate to seek help from them.they speak good english but there is still a chance of you being misunderstood, so if possible, when you want to make bookings, talk to the australian lady staff or the manager himself as their english is better.

the hostel is also designed to ensure socialization with other guests - be that during breakfasts (you have to share your table with others!) and the numerous terraces where you can just relax and mingle (with free shisha!)

the facilities are pretty basic, you may find the toilets limited in number (1 per floor) but if you wake up early, then this should not be a problem. towels are free, breakfast is included (pancakes, bread, cake) and tea is overflowing throughout the day :)

Room Tip: if you need to get a dormitory room, get those for 6 people as these rooms are better and comfy. i...

For the amount you pay to stay in this hostel, you're getting a great deal. Some of my best moments in Marrakech were spent with a hookah on the terrace of the establishment. One, the atmosphere is that of a real Riad mixed with a very upscale shishah bar and positively gorgeous in the main room (I took a good amount of pictures just sitting there upon our arrival). Two, the staff is incredibly kind and generous. They really try their best to make you feel at home, and two male members of the staff came outside and carried our bags all the way down the street to the cab so we wouldn't have to be pestered by any looming characters (we were three blonde American college students, not that its really any problem Marrakech isa s safe as it gets but the effort was admirable). Three, free hookah and tea anytime. Take it up to the terrace, stay up there however long its great. The beds are comfortable, there are outlets in the rooms, and the guests were all very relaxed and on our page. The only issue is the bathrooms, of which there are only two, HOWEVER, there is plenty of hot water in the showers which runs fine and 2everything is functional, just very old. It is of no fault of the hostel simply the situation throughout most of the city, but be forewarned. Other than this, the hostel is a great deal and a wonderful place to stay, especially because its a few meters from the Jmaa el Fna. WOuld definitely recommend
