My husband and I were the only ones staying at the Riad at the time of our visit so the two owners most probably thought “why be there ourselves for 2 lonely souls” and went on vacation leaving us with their staff who neither spoke English, Spanish nor proper French...
The staff was EXTREMELY helpful and did all of them did their best to understand us, prepared perfect breakfasts every morning, did their jobs wonderfully but understandably it was quite difficult to communicate not having a language in common…
Therefore we had no one to complain to when we first found out there was no heating in the room since the air conditioner didn’t work! And all this after having EXPLICITLY ASKED previous to our visit in an e-mail if there was a heating system and having received the answer “of course” immediately. I almost felt stupid for asking at that time! Nothing to worry about, we thought… Well there was! We were freezing, slept awfully and didn’t have anybody in charge to whom to complain to! We were furious!
In the second night we couldn’t stand it anymore so we tried to explain using hand and feet what our problem was and thanks to the staff’s “sign reading abilities” they brought us a steam heater.
We blame the owners for not having cared sufficiently about the well-being of their guests.
And I’m not even mentioning the entrance which was more like hole than a door… I couldn’t pass through it without having to duck down…
