“Beautiful riad in a great location”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 28 September 2012

The riad was absolutely faultless. The staff were friendly and offered great advice about Marrakech, the decor was lovely and the breakfast was a real feast!. There is also a great rooftop terrace to eat breakfast on which is great.

we spent just one night in this wonderful riad. the staff was very helpful we met Bachir and Bass, which were very welcoming and helpful. we asked for a transfer from the airport to the riad which was excellent and very convinient for a first time visitors in marrakech. Bachir drew us a schetch of how to get to place jeema el fna and back at night which we used and was way better then the regualr map. to get to the maine square is about 8-10 minutes and it is a very interesting walk....nice shops and great experience.
the room was named "the berbere", had air conditioning and a very pleasant look, simple but charming. the bathroom had a walk in shower and a beautiful mirror. the terrace roof was a very pleasant place to sit around both in the evening (11 pm after dinner with a nice breeze) and for a late breakfast (10.30 am), had a shady area and a great view of the roofs of the city. the riad isn't to big, but this gave it a very pleasent feeling, to be in a private home, in the medina but in real quite area and very calm ambiance. i really reccomend this place ... we booked directly from the owner which was very nice and helpful by email (even if at the time she was out of marrakech)...i was sent from a friend.... and i am very glad we stayed here....

Stayed for 5 days at the Riad and it was a fantastic stay. You get well pampered by the staff. The location is just perfect, an oasis of rest in the beautiful & hectic city of Marrakech.
This is how a riad should be.

Thanks again for the wonderful service

We stayed here for two nights with our three children (14, 11, 6). We all loved it. The rooms were lovely, the younger children enjoyed the splash pool and we all found the roof terrace outstanding. The service was great, too. Baschir was extremely helpful. He gave us his cell phone number, which we used when our plans changed suddenly due to snow in the high Atlas mountains where we were trekking. We needed an extra night (and other help!) and he was just fantastic with everything. Also loved the warm welcome with tea. Thanks for everything!

In general this is a wonderful riad in a great location. The rooms are nice and the overall ambiance is terrific (lots of flowers, drapes, sunshine). The morning breakfast (comes with the room) is great and you will not walk away hungry. You can arrange to have an evening meal and if you do you will not regret it. You will be served on the roof-top terrace (we were all alone) and the food was wonderful. Everything is very fresh. The staff are very helpful even though some of them struggle with English. The riad is located mere steps from the hustle and bustle of the medina but provides a quiet oasis once you step inside. The only drawback to our stay was that there was a large group also staying at the riad and they tended to get back from dinner late (after midnight) and have loud discussions until very late. This was annoying to the guests who had retired early.

Le Coq Berbère was absolutely charming and we loved the Majorelle room.
Bachir, the housekeeper was wonderful. He was polite, very attentive and most efficient.
Everything worked perfectly - WLAN / WiFi included.
Our only regret was that we could only stay one night.
Hope to be back soon.

Official Description (provided by the hotel):
At the beginning there were two friends, Barbara and Elizabeth, and the charm of the Red Town. In an afternoon, walking in a quiet part of the Medina, called Riad Laarouss, close to Ben Youssef Mosque, they saw an old woman with a tattoo on her chin, standing in the street door. The woman was making great gestures to invite them into her house, which seemed very poor. In a corner of the courtyard, there were gathered together a lot of furniture and fittings, as waiting for moving. In fact the old woman said to the girls that the house has become too small for her family and she would like they be the new owners. According to the traditional Moroccan hospitality, the old woman offered them mint tea and cakes. She also introduced to them the last born in the family, Idris, a few-months baby, and Mustafà, a gentle and wise man who was living like a Hermit in his ... more   less
