The Marrakech Ryads Parc & Spa experience.
The pleasant side of the holiday.
Easy jet flight from Bristol was very good and we arrived 35 minutes early, much to the enjoyment of all the passengers.
A lot of the staff at the hotel are very friendly. Our shuttle bus driver went above and beyond his normal duties. The apartment towels where changed EVER day. The food was always good and fresh at every meal time. Marrakech was very clean and we hardly noticed any rubbish on the streets, which was almost the same for the hotel. People of Marrakech are friendly enough but do hassle you when walking in the old city market areas. Swimming pool was very large and even when the hotel was at capacity, you didn’t feel crowded IN the pool.
THAT’S it- Good stuff done.
The NON pleasant part of the holiday to Morocco and the Marrakech Prac and Spa hotel.
From the beginning, but hopefully not too long…
Do NOT get your currency from any UK airport for Morocco. Bristol exchanged 10 Dinar to £1. Current exchange rate is 13/14 Dinar to £1! The hotel will give you a better rate and so will the airport in Morocco!
After landing you pass through passport control. 2 Hours of queuing and no air conditioning.
Arrived at the hotel after the 30 minute transfer at 11:30ish. We couldn’t get any food or any free drink, including water…
You will have to pay a TAX at the hotel. They will happily take almost any currency and will cost you £10 Per Person. It did cost us a £20 note!
On our bus back to the airport (return home), we spoke to other English families/ couples who had stayed in 4 different hotels and not one of them was charged any taxes for their stays…
The reception lady didn’t seem to know the hotel grounds as she sent us off to a different part of the grounds to find our room. A man watering the grass showed us to our rooms in the end, after 20 minutes of trying to find it.
Not a lot of choice in the way of alcoholic drinks if you are all inclusive. When we decided to drink Gin and Tonic, the bar quickly ran out of tonic water from the bottle, but where very happy to sell you a tin of tonic water!
If you decided to stay up past 11pm when the all-inclusive finishes, then you really needed the correct money to buy any drinks, as they had cashed up and had no change what’s so ever!
The drink also became very expensive. On par with UK prices for everything, including locally produced beer/ gin etc…
Your 30 minute SPA treatment is really only 20 minutes if they can fit you in. We tried to book the free treatment 2 days into our 7 day stay and where told they were fully booked, unless we wanted to pay 800 Dinar extra each for an upgrade, then no problem!
The pool dining area was always 20 minutes late opening and 15 minutes early closing. Drinks were served in small plastic glasses, which I think was to keep you fit by constantly walking to and from the bar or you would get so fed up of getting up, that you didn’t bother anymore! And you can only carry so many, with portion control tightly regulated on drinks, but not food.
You could watch English, French, Spanish people try to take food out the dining area and were always stopped. If you were local (Moroccan), then sometimes the staff would carry their food out for them (if you had a size 12 or less figure)!
You could get lunch in the pool bar area from 12:30- 14:30, but with limited choice (and free if you are all inclusive).
We found ourselves having to get up at about 07:30 so we could get a sun bed by the pool. If you left it any later than about 8:30- 9:00, then forget it!
It gets very hot, very quickly.
IF you’re not seen to using your sunbed from around 10:00, then staff will randomly throw your towel onto the grassed area and take your bed and build a lovely looking pile next to the bar area. I say random because if you a Moroccan guest, they know who you are and will not do anything to disrupt your relaxing holiday!
The poolside music starts at 10:00 with some light sounding tunes until water aerobics and 10:30- THEN all hell breaks loose. The music is so loud that me and my wife couldn’t talk to each other without having to shout! We are both early 40’s and still enjoy a good drink and a good night out on holiday, but this is unbelievable…
Massive speakers are positioned on the other side of the pool area. Music is then pumped out from 10:30 to 12:30. Over lunch it’s turned down until about 3pm, and then is put back into night club/ Ibiza mode. This carries on until about 18:30 when the pool area dies off and people go to get ready for the evening. You are almost forced out of the pool by 7pm. Not life guard- no swimming…
Health and any safety IS left at the airport when you arrive. Damaged floor ties, rusty pool area water filter covers, wires on the floor of the restaurant, covered over sometimes with old carpets. Fire exit doors with cycle locks, which are locked so you really cannot escape!
We got to know a lot of English people at the hotel and we all agreed that not one of us would return to this hotel.
A family of 4 had booked 2 apartments. (A couple with 2 teenage boys 13 & 15). On checking in they were told that the boys had to find another hotel as the Marrakech Ryads Parc & Spa only had 1 apartment available due to over booking. They ended up sharing the 1 apartment…
You CANNOT book a late checkout unless you have exceptional circumstances… If you have a later flight and want to freshen up, then you MUST use the Spa. When using the Spa showers, be careful not to shower with the hundreds of ants that are really happy to join you in the shower!
If you want to escape the heat, then you will have to go back to your room (Anytime) as anywhere else in the hotel has rubbish air con.. But you can’t do that as they will not give you a late check out!
The best part of the holiday was leaving it!
Limited WIFI signal is only available in the main hotel reception area.
When you get to the airport and want to use the duty free, don’t try and spend your left over Moroccan Dinar- they will NOT accept it. Euro’s or credit card only…
PLEASE save your hard earned money and go to another hotel…
