“Disappointed”
Reviewed 7 November 2011

We stayed at the Riad for 4 nights. The approach to the Riad is quite intimidating, with beggars approaching you. Not somewhere for females alone. It took a long time to carry out the admin. and the manager did not speak much english. We were immediately asked to pay for the 4 nights. We did not do this. The rooms were clean but the bedding was unironed, we had no bedside tables, no shelf in the bathroom for toiletries, the shower was slippery and dangerous with no curtain to prevent water going on the floor. There were no sockets in the bathroom, no shampoo or shower gel only soap. No hairdryer. There were light fittings without shades nor bulbs. The curtains hooks neeeded putting into the rings on the pole to stop the curtain sagging. The steps were uneven, with variable heights making them dangerous to ascend and descend safely. On at least one occasion our door was left unlocked by the cleaning staff when they were not in attendance. The manager continually harassed us for money. The owners were at the Riad on the second morning but nothing was said about wanting payment. On the third day the owner charged my friends credit card without her permission even when we had said we would pay that evening, resulting in it costing us 40 euros more, as we were charged in Dirhams not euros, the rate he used being higher than the bank. We spoke with the owner the next morning and were told it is customary to pay in advance. It does not state this on the website which we brought to his attention .The breakfast was minimal , on the last morning we barely had half a glass of juice and only enough coffee in the jug to give half a cup of coffee each. The description on the website where we booked this Riad stated it had an a la carte restaurant -no, 24hr reception - no, tour desk - no, swimming pool - no - dunking pool -yes 2mx2m and shallow - this was dirty. When I see other travellers reviews of this Riad it sounds like we were staying somewhere totally different. The staff lacked language skills and have not been trained properly. I would not recommend this riad.

The riad is located down a dark alleyway and one wrong turn would take you in completely the wrong direction but the owner kindly met us in Jemaa el Fna on arrival and walked us to the house (about 2 min walk). Riad is very nice, rooms spacious. No TV or other entertainment in the riad, apart from a roof top pool which was too hot (in Mid July) for us to enjoy as there was no shade. No wifi access in our ground floor room, had to go up a floor.

Location was perfect, 1 minute walk to Jemaa el fna and cafes, the souks, bank ATMS. Plenty to keep us occupied for 4 days.

Room Tip: We had a ground floor room which was slightly claustrophobic as the window opened onto the courtyard...

Myself and two friends stayed at Riad BB Marrakech for 5 nights in February 2011 and we had a great stay.

It is difficult to find the Riad but do not let this put you off, as the location is perfect as it is just a couple of minutes walk from the Jemaa El Fna square, where you will find food stalls in the evening for a cheap meal or plenty of restaurants or cafes. We also found the hotel quiet as there is no noise from the square or the streets. If you cannot find the Riad it is best to ask for directions from another hotel.

The rooms are basic but cleaned daily and we always had hot water and fresh towels. We were not warned in advance that payment for the room was taken in cash on arrival rather than being charged to the credit card that we booked with, so be prepared. Free Wi-fi was a bonus. The strongest signal can be found on the roof terrace, where there is also an excellent view of the area.

Breakfasts were a good start to the day (boiled egg, bread, butter, jam, Moroccan pancakes or pastries) with mint tea, coffee and orange juice. The women who serve breakfast speak French (as most Moroccans do fluently), but no English. The owners speak excellent English.

If you want to escape the bustle of Marrakech for one day then I would highly recommend a day trip to Imlil to view the Atlas mountains. You can hire a guide who will take you on a walk through the mountain side (make sure you take walking footwear!)

Stayed at this Riad for 4 nights, and on the whole it was excellent.

It is just a couple of minutes walk from Jamaa El Fna, the main square of the city, and the Koutoubia Mosque. However it is difficult to find the first time - taxi drivers do not know where the tiny street is, a small alley off the north side of Rue El Koutoubia.

The rooms are basic, but very clean, reasonably large and comfortable. We always had plenty of hot water.

Breakfasts were decent - bread, butter, jam, Moroccan pancakes, sometimes pastries or cakes, with mint tea, coffee and fresh orange juice. The women who serve breakfast speak French (as most Moroccans do fluently), but no English. The owners speak excellent English.

There is a roof terrace with some chairs and a small plunge pool.

The owner seems to prefer payment in Euro.

We have dissapeared money, which was in the room while we are taking breakfast at the terrace. We realised later because all seemed OK, the housekeeper has key and time during breakfast to do it.
Very noisy the room.

Stayed for 7 nights. We wanted somewhere close to the main square with the usual criteria of having a spacious room and being spotlessly clean. All these were met perfectly. A little tricky to find as it's down a dark dusty alley - but then were learnt that most riads were similarly located - Riad BB also turned out to be an oasis of calm. Breakfasts were served on the terrace and above that was a mini-pool with good space for sunbathing.
It is owned by a young Moroccan family who have spent many years in Tuscany so their main foreign language is Italian. They were also able to converse in French, English and Spanish quite confidently. They were very helpful and pleasant at all times, courteous and happy to to make our stay comfortable.
There was only one negative: the hot water system was a little erratic but they were doing their best to rectify it.
The location is perfect, only two minutes walk form the heart of the city so when you've had enough of the bustle and clattering of the salesmen, buskers and mopeds you know that calm is not far away.

if you like cold showers, no heating and staff refusing to give you extra blankes to stay warm then this is the hotel for you.

The strange then is that there were a number of other less than +ve reviews along with our own which seemed to be deleted.
