“Peaceful and serene haven in a busy, bustling city”
Reviewed 30 October 2012

Riad al Badia is a serene and peaceful haven in a busy, bustling city.
It’s nicely situated at the edge of la Mellah district in the south of the Medina, just two minutes off a main road, Rue Berrima, so convenient for visiting the Jewish quarter, Palais El Badhi, the Kasbah and the Palais de la Bahia. A leisurely 15minutes stroll along the shop lined Rue Riad Zitoun El Kedim via Place Ferbantiers takes you to all the action in the main Djemaa El Fna square.
All of the staff in the Riad are really friendly, kind and very polite. They make you feel very special. During our stay they would always come and greet us personally at breakfast and then enquired about our day when we returned late in the afternoon. It’s a long time since I have been cared for so well. Ahmed and Laurent cheerfully answered our many queries as well as expanding our knowledge of festivals such as Eid al Adha which happened during our stay.
We were warmly welcomed on our arrival with the customary cup of mint tea. An informative orientation tour then followed when Ahmed walked with us to Place Ferbantiers to get our bearings. Although never pushy, the Riad was happy to make suggestions about possible outings and booked restaurants for us and checked on opening times. They also arranged cars to and from the airport and to take us to the Atlas Mountains where we spent a wonderful day.
We had two delicious meals on the terrace, cooked by Samira, and also ate out in Le Tangia, Riad Monsour and Relais de France. Café des Epices in Place Rabba Kedima was also a good spot for a drink and snack whilst watching the world go by.
We stayed in the simply yet very comfortably furnished Amber room, opening onto the roof terrace. Finally, there was the bonus of free WiFi which enabled us to easily keep in touch with home and to sort through the many photos we took during our memorable stay in Marrakech. A great place to stay – thank you.

All of the staff at this Riad were amazing. Our luggage had been lost for 6 days and the staff spent countless hours researching the issue and Laurent actually drove to the airport and picked up our bags when they arrived. The rooms are amazing and the rooftop dining experience is wonderful. The staff never seem irritated by our many questions and were very helpful in providing recommendations for activities and restaurants. You must try and the mint tea!

There is very little to write as all the compliments I would make have already been made !!
BUT I have traveled extensively in the UK and abroad over the years and and not even the most luxurious hotels have given the service and attention that we received at Riad Al Badia, Laurent, Amhed and all his staff were excellent ,and Samir !! what a chef ,watch out Laurent on my next visit I may well steal her .!!
All I know is that they make me want to go back as soon as possible, and I will, you walk in the door from a indescribable concoughfany of noise, culture and oh that traffic and your in a peaceful part of paradise.
My only tip !! go with friends Marrakesh has to be shared a wonderful place with wonderful people Oh and always barter in the Suoks

Room Tip: Clean linen and towels every day all rooms have there own twist

Dear Sir,
I thank you so much for your very touching message. We all wish to thank you for your stay at Riad Al Badia and I will not say much either as there are emotions that can not be described, you just can live them. Our meeting with the four of you was just this kind of meeting. Your interest for our culture so different but so fascinating, we love Marrakech and South of Morocco and we were truly touched to see you discovering and understanding our culture so frankly, with lots of sentibility and progressively a bit more every day. You made us feel very priviledged , our meeting gives the full sense of our everyday duty and remind us why we decided to operate in the hotel industry. So once again our heartfelt gratitude for all you gave us and we can not wait to see you again. Samira will be pleased to go even further in cooking Moroccan Gastronomy for you. Thank you for everything and thank you of you. Take good care of all of you and give us some news from time to time.

A fabulous place to stay in old Marrakech (in the Medina) arriving is a culture shock as you wonder why the taxi (arrange by Laurent) has stopped in a narrow, crowded street at the head of an alleyway and after a short walk you arrive at a beautiful door. Once inside you are away from the noise and chaotic traffic that makes Marrakech so interesting, Laurent and his staff welcome you with mint tea and pastries make from his own fabulous chef. The air conditioned rooms (we had reserved two) are well appointed, yet modest, with a sperate bathroom with a large walk in shower. Fresh towels are provided daily.
Breakfast was served on the lower terrace, fresh orange juice, pancakes & pastries, tea, coffee, etc.
The Riad is a few minutes walk from the Al Badia palace and about 10 minutes from the Place Jemaa El Fna and the main souks. The knowledgeable Ahmed escorted us on our first foray to ensure we didn't get lost.
Do dine at the Riyadh a truly historic Morrocan meal, under the stars, cooked by the Riad's own great chef, good, reasonable local wines are available.
Nothing was too much trouble for Laurent or his staff. The Riad is a great location for exploring the Medina. This must be just the most beautiful place to stay and I highly recommend it.

We stayed here early October 2012. What everyone says is true. It is a little gem. It is a pleasure to return here at the end of the day. We had dinner twice at the Riad and it was by far the best food that we ate. We did not eat at posh restaurants, we tried the food stalls in the square one night and Cafe Kasbah. Ok food but the Riads food was excellent.
We stayed in the Emerald Room on the 2nd floor where breakfast can be taken on the outside terrace. We heard no noise from any of the other rooms. The rooms are basic and it is a tight squeeze to use the sink in the bathroom whilst someone else is wanting to use the toilet and shower. The shower is spacious but the water temperature fluctuated a little. The bed was very comfortable and the Riads decor and furnishing were all very pleasing. A bottle of wine was left for my husband on the evening of his birthday which was a lovely gesture. Laurent and Ahmed were wonderful in giving directions and any help if needed. All the staff were very friendly and courteous. Would definitely return here again and would recommend to anyone who was looking for a clean, inviting, friendly Riad to stay in.
It was a 10/15 minute walk to Place Ferbantiers which we used as our centre point for taxis routes to places to visit etc.
All said a wonderful stay at Riad Al Badia.

Room Tip: did not see any other rooms but the Emerald Room opening onto the outdoor terrace was lovely

Laurent, Ahmed and everyone at the Riad Al Badia provided us with simply the most outstanding service during me and my girlfriend’s stay this week. As numerous reviewers have already stated, absolutely nothing was too much trouble for them.

We were initially greeted by riad owner Laurent, who gave my girlfriend and I the perfect welcome, providing us with an in-depth and humourous guide to Marrakech over a pot of Moroccan mint tea and pastries – this really helped us map out our five or so days there. Over the course of the week, they were terrific at recommending good places to visit, dropping everything to help us book a cooking class, a hammam and a day trip to the breathtaking Ourika Valley.

They also came up with tailor-made ideas for meal suggestions, such as suitable locations for a lighter evening dinner away from the hustle and bustle of the Jemaa El Fna. However, it was their own three-course dinner with a phenomenal Chicken and Lemon Tagine as the centrepiece that was by far the best meal of the break for both of us.

Best of all though was the care and attention they gave to my girlfriend on our penultimate night there after she had been taken ill – they rushed out to get her free medication and from then on, always asked her how she was doing and offering extra advice or tablets. This kind of attention to detail was so greatly appreciated.

Throughout our stay, the whole Riad Al Badia team really went out of their way to look after us – staying here was such a wonderful experience in this fascinating and frantic city.

Room Tip: The Perle room was our choice - really couldn't fault it.
