Stayed here last summer whilst on a budget holiday to Morocco. We had a slightly confusing start with the only guy working not speaking any english and so not understanding that we had paid for aircon and the room we were given didnt have any. We quickly got given a new room which was lovely, quiet and with everything you would need. We ended up coming back to stay here at the end of our trip. The main guy who worked here was very friendly and so helpful in organising trips away and tips of what to see in Marrakesh. The location could not have been better, right on the main square, perfect for walking around in the day and evening.
i would stay here again and recommend it to anyone on a budget. Just email before you go to ask for a room with aircon.

An excellent base for a few days in Marrakech - you can't beat the location, right on the Djemaa el Fna but the rooms were amazingly peaceful at night. We really enjoyed the simple French style breakfast served on the roof. I would come back to Hotel Cecil. A room on 1st or 2nd floor would have more daylight.

Room Tip: higher up is best to get a bit more light coming in through the top of the central courtyard

If you are looking for getting into it, this is the place. Literally a few steps away from Djemaa el Fna, it is a wonderful homebase to go everywhere else. I have been in Marrakech twice (2007 and 2012) and Djemaa el Fna and its sorroundings is DA thing to do. Yes, you should do the other stuff guides tell you to... but, in the end, you will always come back to the point in which the energy of the world collides: Djemaa el Fna.

As to the hotel, it is nothing fancy, but who wants fancy? Not me, at least. Clean place. Nice people. Hot water. Wonderful view. Great breakfast. Pretty much all I need when traveling.

Room Tip: All rooms are pretty basic, but perfectly clean. Not noisy at all.

The location is amazing and the staff friendly. The only problem was in breakfast, in which took to long to be attended. But it wasn't a big deal. It´s important to notice the amazing silence to sleep!

Room Tip: Rooms in 2nd floor are quieter Don't take breakfast around 9:00! All guests go this time, choos...

We had an airport pickup service from the hotel, witch was great since we arrived late in Marrakesh.

Location:
Superb, couldn't be more central.

Room:
Beautiful building, the room was ok. Small bathroom with wooden door that was difficult to open and close, a little bit embarrassing to use is you travel with a friend :-)
The bathroom drain smelled very bad, and so did the hole room if we let bathroom doors open.
There was no cleaning during the four nights we where there. So we had to ask for new toilet paper ourselves.

Breakfast:
Simple breakfast on the roof terrace. There was one guy to serve breakfast and it was a little slow. Most of the morning's it didn't matter but when we had an appointment for a pickup to follow a course, it did. We were just on time!

Service:
Nice guy at the desk. He answered kindly to all our questions.
And even gave us 100 dirhams back because we had payed to much to the first receptionist.

Hotel Cecil was great. When you come to Marrakech, be sure to go to the main square and then the first little alley on the right side will take you to Cecil. Do not listen to the guys that want to show you the way while walking on the street because somehow their national hobby is to point people to the wrong direction :) funny but true, at least for us! The breakfast setting is like you're in a fairytale; you drink your freshly squeezed orange juice while watching the main square's awakening. Will be back for sure ;)
