Just back from a four night stay at Aqua Fun.
I emailed to advise of our 25th wedding anniversary, in the hope we may get an upgrade.... which we did. Huge suite with 2 double beds and an enormous 8ft bed!!! Too big and we had trouble finding one another! Unfortunately we found the room a little too big and near the generator which was a little noisy - living on a main road I just wanted peace and quiet and birdsong in the morning. We asked for a quieter room and were instantly shown a quieter, smaller room overlooking the pools with sunlight streaming in the morning :o) The room was still fantastic, with two double beds, a beautiful bathroom (separate toilet and bidet), lovely terrace with comfy chairs.
The hotel was nicely furnished and very attractive. The pools were great.... 3 main pools, one which was the livelier was near the Aqua Park - this had music and most of the entertainment. We preferred the other quieter pools which we found far more relaxing. Very comfy loungers; by the middle pool there were double loungers with canopies which we took advantage of. Other reviews have stated that the pools were very cold .... the middle pool is the warmest; still chilly but we had 80f everyday and after the initial shock the water was very refreshing. The water at the Aqua Park was considerably warmer so don't be put off. The slides were great fun and we have said we will likely return with our teenage daughters as they would love this.
As the season is not fully under way, only the two main restaurants were open. The food was excellent; always a selection of meat, fish and vegetable dishes on offer. The salad table had an extensive choice and everything was tasty, well presented and not swimming in oil. The deserts were the best I have experienced in any hotel - the chocolate, walnut mousse to die for and for a creme caramel addict I was pleased to see it and taste it three times during our stay. There were at least 10 different desserts on offer each evening. Pasta and pizzas available as well. Freshly made breads with every meal as well as pancakes at breakfast and again by the middle pool in the afternoon with a selection of cakes and pastries - we were always too full to indulge!
The staff go out of their way to help and nothing is too much trouble. A limited cocktail list but the waiters are happy to oblige and make up cocktails not on the list. Adil makes the most amazing Irish coffee with a little chocolate in it - couldn't get enough of them after dinner!
The place is spotlessly clean with staff constantly mopping pathways, sweeping up etc. The gardens were well tended with lots of new planting going on.
All in all, a first class break. We really didn't expect such a high standard and such excellent service for the price we paid.
We went on a hot air balloon trip on our silver wedding anniversary which was a wonderful experience. Collected at 5.30 am, coffee and croissants at the balloon site, 45 minutes in the balloon watching the sunrise over the Atlas mountains. The pilot was an absolute hoot who had you at ease the whole time. A perfect landing and then on to breakfast in a Berber tent, followed by a tour of their home and then on to a 20 minute camel ride. This was with Marrakech by Air (£160 each)..... thoroughly recommended.
We went to Marrakech in the evening with the hotel's entertainment chap, but personally I didn't enjoy this as the group was too large(40 of us). We went again the following day on the free hotel shuttle bus which was better. We were pestered in the market and a guide forced himself on us (even though we turned multiple times to get rid of him, but he was persistant so we let him show us round - he was useless and became a bit unpleasant when he doubled his fee and we disagreed over this... in the end we stumped up as we didn't want the hassle) I would suggest a recommendation of guides through the hotel as other guests had a much better experience.
Lovely people at the hotel, all very friendly and without exception everyone said that they had enjoyed their stay with most saying they would return.
Well done to the staff and management at Aqua fun, you're doing a great job.
My only suggestions to improve would be to lose the tacky plastic animals scattered throughout the grounds - they really don't fit in with such a lovely, classy environment. I would have liked to have an information pack in the room listing meal times, facilities and local information but apart from these minor points I couldn't fault the place.
