LABRANDA Aqua Fun Marrakech
Ranked #123 of 501 Hotels in Marrakech
Reviewed 17 March 2012

Just back from a four night stay at Aqua Fun.

I emailed to advise of our 25th wedding anniversary, in the hope we may get an upgrade.... which we did. Huge suite with 2 double beds and an enormous 8ft bed!!! Too big and we had trouble finding one another! Unfortunately we found the room a little too big and near the generator which was a little noisy - living on a main road I just wanted peace and quiet and birdsong in the morning. We asked for a quieter room and were instantly shown a quieter, smaller room overlooking the pools with sunlight streaming in the morning :o) The room was still fantastic, with two double beds, a beautiful bathroom (separate toilet and bidet), lovely terrace with comfy chairs.

The hotel was nicely furnished and very attractive. The pools were great.... 3 main pools, one which was the livelier was near the Aqua Park - this had music and most of the entertainment. We preferred the other quieter pools which we found far more relaxing. Very comfy loungers; by the middle pool there were double loungers with canopies which we took advantage of. Other reviews have stated that the pools were very cold .... the middle pool is the warmest; still chilly but we had 80f everyday and after the initial shock the water was very refreshing. The water at the Aqua Park was considerably warmer so don't be put off. The slides were great fun and we have said we will likely return with our teenage daughters as they would love this.

As the season is not fully under way, only the two main restaurants were open. The food was excellent; always a selection of meat, fish and vegetable dishes on offer. The salad table had an extensive choice and everything was tasty, well presented and not swimming in oil. The deserts were the best I have experienced in any hotel - the chocolate, walnut mousse to die for and for a creme caramel addict I was pleased to see it and taste it three times during our stay. There were at least 10 different desserts on offer each evening. Pasta and pizzas available as well. Freshly made breads with every meal as well as pancakes at breakfast and again by the middle pool in the afternoon with a selection of cakes and pastries - we were always too full to indulge!

The staff go out of their way to help and nothing is too much trouble. A limited cocktail list but the waiters are happy to oblige and make up cocktails not on the list. Adil makes the most amazing Irish coffee with a little chocolate in it - couldn't get enough of them after dinner!

The place is spotlessly clean with staff constantly mopping pathways, sweeping up etc. The gardens were well tended with lots of new planting going on.

All in all, a first class break. We really didn't expect such a high standard and such excellent service for the price we paid.

We went on a hot air balloon trip on our silver wedding anniversary which was a wonderful experience. Collected at 5.30 am, coffee and croissants at the balloon site, 45 minutes in the balloon watching the sunrise over the Atlas mountains. The pilot was an absolute hoot who had you at ease the whole time. A perfect landing and then on to breakfast in a Berber tent, followed by a tour of their home and then on to a 20 minute camel ride. This was with Marrakech by Air (£160 each)..... thoroughly recommended.

We went to Marrakech in the evening with the hotel's entertainment chap, but personally I didn't enjoy this as the group was too large(40 of us). We went again the following day on the free hotel shuttle bus which was better. We were pestered in the market and a guide forced himself on us (even though we turned multiple times to get rid of him, but he was persistant so we let him show us round - he was useless and became a bit unpleasant when he doubled his fee and we disagreed over this... in the end we stumped up as we didn't want the hassle) I would suggest a recommendation of guides through the hotel as other guests had a much better experience.

Lovely people at the hotel, all very friendly and without exception everyone said that they had enjoyed their stay with most saying they would return.

Well done to the staff and management at Aqua fun, you're doing a great job.

My only suggestions to improve would be to lose the tacky plastic animals scattered throughout the grounds - they really don't fit in with such a lovely, classy environment. I would have liked to have an information pack in the room listing meal times, facilities and local information but apart from these minor points I couldn't fault the place.

Room Tip: Around the middle and final pool were quiet rooms.

Me and the wife have just got back after a 3 night stay, and can say it was very good, cleanliness, service etc was spot on, the only thing I would say if i was being picky is there wasn't much food choice, but I think that is more due to it being out of season, well im sure il find out,,as I'm booked again to go with my kids again in June, and there seems there is plenty for them to do, as the water parks look amazing, just dreading how hot it will be !! Weather was perfect now, but pools were still cold, but that didn't stop people from going in. Drinks were very nice, as some all inc the alcohol is awful, but couldn't complain at all. The only other thing is the gym weights are very limited, and a treadmill that didn't work, but hey who really wants to be stuck in the gym if u gone to relax ! Lol !! All in all a excellent value for money holiday, looking forward to going with my kiddies next time. !

Very good value for money.

We went all inclusive, which included:
- food and drink throughout the day (buffets with a large selection of hot and cold food).
- about 30 water slides and 5 outdoor swimming pools
- free shuttle bus to central Marrakech and back
- free entertainment evening with belly daner and snake charmer
- mini golf, tennis, basketball, snooker, table tennis and more
- good quality clean rooms with a great view of the mountain
- efficient and friendly staff
- free internet computer (and also wifi)
- optional day trips and half day trips arranged by the hotel (for an extra fee: we did 3. Well worth it.)

Overall: I would highly recommend

Room Tip: ask for a mountain view

Stayed here for 5 days at the beginning of March. It was brilliant; the location is great not too far from the airport the view of the Atlas Mountains was breathtaking. The grounds of the hotel are perfect not too spread out. The Water Park was fantastic and although the season hadn’t started yet we went most of the slides. Food was good there was always something to eat. On our first night after a few drinks in the bar and it was quite late and we asked the barman if we would be able to get something to eat and he had something sent over from the restaurant, I thought that was a really nice touch he went out of his way to provide a great service. The entertainment was excellent day and night Sarah and Hassan were brilliant and really kept people entertained but did not harass the people that didn't want to partake. The selections of pools were great we stayed by the main pool which had music and games but there was also the option to chill by the relaxation pools. Having stayed in 2 PickAlbatros hotels in Egypt I can honestly say that Aqua Fun Club is absolutley up to the same standard. The hotel is extremely clean. The hotel and staff were great and I would definitely 100% return.

We have just returned from a 5 day break at this hotel and had an amazing time!

The hotel is wonderfully clean and the staff are really helpful and friendly, especially the animation team - Mohammed & Sarah who are really funny. We would highly recommend the night tour with Mohammed into Marrakech Town - had a great evening ending with a sing song on the coach on the way back to the hotel.

The only thing we could really critisize is the food, there was not enough choice but maybe this is rectified when the hotel is completely open in April through to October. We found the choices are mainly the same every evening and if you are a meat eater then there is not a lot of meat to be found on offer, just the same chicken & beef every evening! The salad bar was great at lunchtime but could do with a choice of some cold meats & cheese to accommodate the salad.

Our room was great and had a view over the Atlas Mountains which is breathtaking and we took lots of pictures to remember this view.

A great place for parents to take children who love water and slides as there is so much to keep them occupied.

Overall we had a great time for the money we paid and met some lovely people out there, would highly recommend this hotel to everyone.

Bit late in writing the review but here goes......

Myself, my partner, his mum & partner, his sister & her partner and 2 children aged 10 and 13, stayed here from 10-19th October 2011.

Having read the reviews on here immediately after booking and in the lead up to the holiday needless to say we were all slightly worried about our holiday as most reviews were negative with regards to helpfullness of staff, problems with rooms, unfinished dangerous points throughout the grounds. But our fears turned out to be unfounded as when we arrived at the hotel we were treated to complimentary cocktails whilst filling out travel forms and having our rooms sorted. This was all dealt with swiftly and we were taken to our rooms without much wait. We did tip the bell boy who brought our luggage up (gave him a few pound coins) so advisable to have some change to hand on arrival.

The room was lovely, very clean and well presented with flat screen tv which we plugged our external hard drive into so we could watch movies etc in bed at night which was brilliant! :) Bathrom was also very clean and finished beautifully.......my only negative on the bathroom was that no matter how hard you tried to keep the water in using the shower curtain whilst showering it just came pouring out onto the bathroom floor and a few times out the bathroom door into hall. We had a lovely balcony with chairs and table, (our room was above the restaraunts) bit noisy first thing in the morning with people moving charirs at breakfast but didnt bother me as i like an early start in the morning to get as much sun as possible! :)

There were plenty of sunbeds throughout the grounds and also big beds which were great for having a wee nap in the shade. :) All swimming pools were lovely but the water was freezing!! Alright once you had been in for a few mins but a real shock to the system when first getting in. The water park was brill, soo much fun and not a queue in sight. Attendants always around to help as well. Although when one of our party cut their toe after being on a slide a lifegaurd brought over a first aid box with nothing in it apart from an alcohol free wipe! Not much use!

The staff were wonderful, the animation team were always walking around making sure you were aware of things going on in the hotel and happy to arrange trips. (one from our party went on a golf trip which he thourghly enjoyed. The bar staff were brilliant too such a good laugh and we left a tip to our fav barman upon leaving.

Having heard great reviews about Mohammed the tour guide offering great trips we decided to use him and had a trip up the atlas mountains which was so amazing and another into the city with a tour round landmarks and gardens and then to the souks at night which was fantastic! I got my feet painted with henna which was soo pretty and i got a fantastic price.....dont be afraid to haggle.

We also booked a trip through the hotel quad biking which i would highly reccommend....went through desert, into a house in a wee village along the way for tea and morroccan pancakes with syrup. It took us through many lovely places and gave us a real taste of another side to morrocco.

All in all an amazing holiday and would definately go back again.
