“A Joy to stay in”
Reviewed 24 January 2013

Riad Layla Rouge excels in many ways including Cleanliness, Comfort, Good food, very reasonable rates and a central location, add to this an incredible manager by the name of Jawed, his staff, the ambience of the Riad and you are absolutely guaranteed an exceptionally enjoyable holiday. I have travelled to many places and enjoyed lots of hostelries and this Riad really does come out as one of the best places I have ever stayed in. I went to Marrakech for a short break with my daughter , our time there was enhanced by the kindness and service we received . We also took a day trip to the Ourika Valley arranged by Layla Rouge which was very enjoyable as well as educational. A river side meal is included in the price which was a very pleasant surprise as I went to pay and was told 'no it is paid for'.
We walked through many of the Souks and at no time did we experience any high pressure sales, just fun banter and happy smiling faces. An added note - at the end of the passage way to the Riad is a stall selling wooden artefacts with just the sweetest man in charge. His prices are good and bargaining is not in anyway hard going. Look around elsewhere then buy from him [I'm not on commission by the way].

They were so sweet. Original booked on-line, and was sending them mails for questions. They were very helpful
arranged pick-up at the airport and when i arrived at the hostel they took me to the roof terrace and served me nice tea.
Stayed in the dorm the first couple of nights, and it was very clean, plus they made your bed each day :)
Also stayed in a private room and it was great, very big with a couch and everything.
Price was low,
WiFi in the downstairs working fine
and always a cup of tea coming your way.
would never stay anywhere else while in Marrakesh.
Also did a tour through them and only have positive things to say about that to!
went as a solo female traveller.

We booked a family holiday,5 nights over Christmas. I was a little anxious about finding Layla Rouge late at night, but as we booked a taxi through the Riad, we were met at the taxi dropoff by a man with a cart who wheeled our luggage and send through the streets to the door. I had a look around the annexed which was wonderful and I would have been very happy to have stayed there too. We ate in one night which was very good indeed, but mostly ate in the main square which, once you choose get past the persuasive waiters and choose your seat, was good clean food. But thats for a review of Marrakech.
The location is great. We all felt very safe in the area. Jawad helped us arrange a couple of excursions (camel ride and trip to the atlas mountains) and was very happy to walk us to the local hamman. This is a great place if you are wanting to immerse yourself in Marrakesh.

We really enjoyed our stay at Riad Layla Rouge, wish it could have been longer. This hotel has a young and animated feel- part hostel, part boutique hotel. They play good music and the common spaces making it easy to chat with fellow travelers. The included breakfast was really above and beyond, and we ate dinner here one night as well, which was excellent (much, much better than some of the touristy restaurants around the square). We stayed one night in a room in the beautiful annex, and one night in the riad itself. The rooms were pretty spacious, cute and colorful, and the bed was incredibly comfortable. We were there in the winter when it was pretty cold at night, but the common spaces stayed pretty warm and the heater in the room kept us very cozy (other riads that I've stayed at were very cold at night!). Great value for the price, would definitely stay here again.

We stayed in the Riad in Summer 2012 (very hot in Marrakesh during the summer!). We had a double room (under the roof) and almost everything was perfect. Our room was clean, low-priced and had a AC without any extra cost. Breakfast was very good as well and was brought on the roof terrace close to our room by the staff (exclusively for us!).

The staff was very helpful the whole time and helped us out. We asked for instance for a traditional bath and the manager guided us to one close by. Anyway, he made his share for this help since the hamal wasnt actually that expensive (about half the price we figured out later). But in Marrakesh everybody is trying to rip you, thus is was no big problem and kind of an "adequate rip".

The only thing that wasnt that good: Before check-out the manager gave us a laptop to fill out some travel assessment website (like trip advisor is). I think it was hostelbookers. Before I sent my ratings he was controlling the clicks (he wanted to have a perfect in all categories and pushed me a little bit). Anyways, the hotel was indeed perfect, but pushing people for good recommendations is not okay.

Stayed here for the first part of our trip. Took some finding (the locals will take you here but for a fee). When we arrived our room was still being cleaned but we were welcomed with open arms and taken up to the roof where we meet the resident family of tortoises. Very cute!
Our room was on the bottom floor which was great as the people upstairs complained that they were too hot. Our room was stunning. I read that there were no doors on the toilet or shower but it's not too much of an issue as you can't see anything from the bed. The bed was comfortable and we were given towels.
The staff were extremely kind, polite and knowledgeable. They took us to a tiny pool to cool off. It was great as temperatures were reaching 43°C and it was a great place to get away from the craziness of the main square.
We were sad to leave especially as the next hotel we went to (Imperial Plaza Hotel) was such a disappointment. Complete opposite of the riad. We would have gone back to Layla's if we could. Couldn't recommend this riad more! Will definitely stay here again!

Room Tip: Go for the bottom room if you can. It's much cooler than the others and is a double.

We made a choice when staying here, Jawad, his partner and his staff are really friendly and helpful, our room and whole riad is very atmospheric and kept really clean. The location is in the Medina and 2 - 3 minutes from the souks and the square. They will arrange taxis to and from the airport for you and arrange any of the other trips available. will return in the future. Bob Fisher

1 Minute from Place D'Jeema el Fna in the centre of the souqs and possibly the first ever edible hostel riad. The free tea and cake – may stop you from trying to bite into the walls – or maybe not... Have a taste…Riad Layla Rouge breathes in the Mad Hatter’s tea party of colour that Marrakech conjures, and breathes out the nearby chaos – a gentler but still eccentric heartbeat. If Riad Layla Rouge could, it would cascade chocolate from the fountain in the courtyard, but the impact is truly mouth-watering nonetheless. Tea and cake, free all day – may stop you from biting into the walls – or maybe not…they may actually be edible. Only one minute from the main square, the 3 suites provide absolute privacy, the gorgeous mixed dorm encourages adventure sharing. All can enjoy the warm, communal atmosphere of the courtyard, Moroccan salon-dining room, and 2 flower and fruit tree draped roof terraces. All this enhanced by your own personal soundtrack with ipod speakers in each room. A small and perfectly formed family run riad in the centre of the souqs – Riad Layla Rouge breathes in the Mad Hatter’s tea party of colour and spices that Marrakech conjures, and breathes out the noise and craziness nearby – a gentler but still eccentric heartbeat. You cannot help but find your favourite colour here – by day Layla Rouge is a vase of flowers or a box of hand decorated chocolates, or an techni-flavour ice-cream stand; by night a treasure chest of glittering jewels, or a sparkling solar system. Use your imagination.
