“6 day Toubkal trek”
Reviewed 23 May 2014

I've been backpacking in Morocco once before but was gutted I missed out on trekking the Atlas mountains. I made a point of returning to do it this year and went with my girlfriend who has never been to the country before.

The website for the trips is clear and concise to navigate. Karima was exceptionally good in taking care of all the details. I appreciate the honesty about changes due to weather and the price was clearly laid out with no hidden charges.

The trek itself was beyond our expectations. The views from the many summits we climbed were breath-taking and un-spoilt. We never expected that it would be just the two of us hiking for 80% of the trek, which made the experience even more adventurous. Our guide Mustafa was friendly and extremely knowledgable, we felt extremely safe at all times and were more like 3 friends on a hike than 2 and a guide. We were equally impressed with the culinary skills and diversity of Omar our muleteer/cook. We can safely say that we would have struggled badly if not for the large portions of food he served us 3 times a day. We ate the healthier and better than we do at home back in the UK!

Overall, we would highly recommend MTM for their professionalism as a company and their quality in providing a spectacular trek across the beauty of the Moroccan Atlas mountains.

Thank you!

“A great 2 day trek for 2 in the Atlas (near Marrakech) with Hassan and Mustafa (Mountain Tarvel Morocco)”
Reviewed 14 April 2013

We are 1 young couple that spent 1 week in Morocco in April.
The highlight was a 2 day trek in the Atlas mountains, south of Marrakech, with Mountain Travel Morocco (MTM) which had been recommended to us by the owners of the Riad we were staying in.
Cost: 1200Dhr per person for a great guide and cook (for just the 2 of us!), pick up and return to Marrakech, 1 night in a gite, nice meals (2 lunches, 1 dinner) and a mule to transport gear/food.
We are commenting to inform about this great trek which is surprisingly not detailed in the Lonely Planet...
Our guide Hassan picked us up from our Riad hotel in Marrakech, then we drove by car to Imlil where MTM has its office and which apparently is the starting point for several tours. There we also met Mustafa, our cook, who would accompany us with a mule. Since we hadn't got sleeping bags with us, we could rent them on the spot (40 Dhr). The tour consisted in going from Imlil through Tizi M'nzik mountain pass (2487m) and then down into a valley where we spent the night in a refuge in the village of Tizi Oussem. On the next morning we went up to Tizi Oudite mountain pass (2200m) and finished the tour in Agersioual.
We enjoyed this trekking tour very much. First of all, this was thanks to our guide Hassan whom we felt absolutely confident with and who was able to tell us many things about life in the Berber villages of the Atlas Mountains. He spoke English and French. Mustafa prepared fantastic tajines for our dinner and lunch. Both of them made this trekking tour absolutely unforgettable!
We strongly recommend this trek which is perfectly 'doable' for casual walkers (like us - no training required) ;)

We visited the Atlas mountains in a 4x4 with a driver and guide, and initially followed good roads into the mountains to a Morrocan lunch in a very secluded but comfortable and well decorated tent in an established building (strange place to build it). After lunch, the driver went off-road and followed dirt roads, stream beds and camel trails (?) up and over the lower mountain range past Berber villages. Can you imagine driving down a 1:3 gradient track, only 3m wide with a rock face one side and an unguarded 100m high 60 degree slope the other side, and the edge of the track crumbling away as we inched down? Awesome!

“High Atlas Mountains - Trip of a Lifetime”
Reviewed 27 April 2012

We enjoyed a familly trip of a lifetime. My wife and three Children (20,19 & 17) spent 5 days in the mountains and could not fault any part of the trip. We had a private tour, which was supported by three wonderful guides and two mules, in the most wonderful location you could imagine. Great accomodation, fantastic food and faultlessly organised. Link the trip to a couple of days in Marrakech and you wont regret it. One last tip - If you plan to climb Toubkal make sure you get fit first! PS book direct not through a UK agent as you will save a fortune!
