“Top class hotel with amazing staff!”
Reviewed 26 January 2014

We stayed at Red Hotel for 7 nights from January 15th and were blown away by the standard of service. ALL of the staff went above and beyond to ensure we had a good stay - Ayman in particular on the front desk. The gents in the poolside bar were also great fun and very helpful. My vegan diet was well catered for - both at breakfast and at the poolside bar (they made a special vegan pizza for me and it was delicious!) - Ayman also ensured I could be catered for on our day trip to Ourika Valley/Atlas Mountains, a tour also booked through the hotel.

There is free wifi in the hotel foyer which is good to have - it's a tad annoying that it can't be in the rooms yet, but since you're supposed to be on holiday this at least encourages you to spend less time online and more time exploring Marrakech! In my experience wifi is usually free in hostels but NOT in hotels, so it's good to have it free here.

Red Hotel is attached to its sister hotel, Opera Plaza - so the facilities are shared. You therefore have a choice of restuarants and bars. The swimming pool is freezing, yes - but why are people swimming in it in January and then complaining? It's winter!!! I don't think it would be worth them heating the pool, as the hotel is pretty empty at this time of year. Temperatures reach 50 degrees Celsius in the summer (when the hotel is busy), so you wouldn't want a heated pool then!

The hotel is very modern and stylish. It's about a 30min walk from the main square; most other sights are closer. Failing that a taxi should only cost you 30 dirhams (the driver will try to charge 50, so firmly agree 30 with him before you get in the cab - again, great advice from Ayman). If you fancy a day trip to Essaouira, the coach station is right across the road - which is fantastic, as you'll probably be pretty tired from the journey once you get back!

The road can be a little scary to cross, but that's pretty standard for Marrakech in general - and part of the fun!

Looking through some of the more negative reviews, I think some people a being overly unfair and need to get a reality check. Red Hotel is extremely affordable for everything you get, even by Moroccan standards. You get more than what you pay for here. If you want to be shown to your table at breakfast, have a waiter bring tea or coffee (which is already at the buffet for you to pour yourself), or have an even wider selection of food to choose from - then book 5 star. Or menus are on the table if you wish to order something else for breakfast anyway. Furthermore, the hotel doesn't lie about where it is located, so if you won't want to be in the new town, then book elsewhere! As for the person who was complaining about tourist tax - this is never included in a package deal (even all-inclusive), and if you read the fine print I'm sure you'll see that...

The only minor complaint I have is the noise from the nightclub, but it wasn't half as bad as people are suggesting. It's tolerable.

Overall, a great hotel, and great value for money - if people expect more from this hardworking place, then they should expect to pay more.

Myself and my family are staying this week so far everything is good the food was good in the restaurant The staff very helpful and try to help when asked.
The let down is the breakfast not much to choose from and very little staff. Would be nice to have someone to ask" would you like to have tea or coffee," and show us to our table. This maybe a little thing but I would be more than happy to leave a big tip when leaving. Love to see happy faces in the morning for a good start of the day.
The pool is nice but the water is freezing needs to be heated this time of year, me and my son nearly froze to death in a five minute swim haha not doing that again
In general good hotel for the money and stars. Come on Red Hotel seriously heat the swimming pool.

We stayed here for a week at the start of this month. The hotel is well situated, being directly across from the railway station, and with a main bus station a few metres further away.

The rooms are comfortable and very clean, with daily maid service.

Residents of this hotel are allowed to use the facilities of the adjoining sister hotel- Opera Plaza, which is a bonus because they have a nice pool set in a quiet, relaxing sun lounging area.

There are also two resturants and a bar at the sister hotel if you don't want to go far- we ate in the restaurant, had a couple of drinks in the bar, and can recommend both.

Taxis are plentful and generally inexpensive in Marakech, however don't get one just outside the hotel as they will charge more, pick one up in the street and expect to pay 30-40 dirhams (£2-3) to take you to the old town, if they wan't more haggle or take the next taxi

Room Tip: ask for a high level room, if it is looking onto the station it will keep you entertained with the d...

The hotel is located opposite the St which is good but it is in the new town ( not much happening) hotel has bar which plays loud music until the early hours.... This does disturb you. Rooms are spacious but at night they are cold, not enough duvets or blankets provided. Shower is one solid stream of very very hot water, step to shower cubicle is high, shower is very slippery and dangerous, there is nothing to hold onto... whilst in the shower. Room is extremely noisy due to being facing Main Street. Arriving in reception there is a very 'cold' feeling there are no plants or flowers in reception, it is really not welcoming. Outside as you enter the hotel there is a terrible smell of drainage. Breakfast is good but very repetitive, not much choice.

Finally! Hotel receptionist announces on our departure we must pay local tax on top of our price ( we booked a fully exclusive package through travel company) We refuse to pay so they threaten to call the Police!

I stayed at Marrakech in November 2013 for 7 nights and used to visit the red hotel bar each evening.
The hotel bar is next door to the hotel itself and offers a really relaxing and pleasant ambience .It is approached by a long stairway and has a rooftop view a television and cool music.
The beer and drinks are very cheap and I truly recommend an evening there.

We stayed there on two different instances during our visit to Morocco. The hotel was decent but lacked certain facilities expected from a hotel of this level. When we checked-in, there was a very bad smell in the bathroom due to stagnant water in the drain. When we contacted the front desk, they sent someone to repair it.

The shower room didn't have any handle to hold which is dangerous as both myself and my wife slipped in the bathroom as there was nothing to hold on to. What was most surprising that they didn't have any first aid box. The AC thermostat wasn't working which resulted in uncomfortable night. Breakfast was decent.

There was a bad smell around the hotel building. Don't know the reason but it was really bad.

Room Tip: Choose this hotel only if you have a train or a Supratour bus to catch next morning.

Hotel is well located opposite the train station and was good value. Breakfast was fairly poor and repetitive.

We had a room on the third floor and it was noisy from 11pm onwards with music which could be heard from the lounge/nightclub. This occurred each night and spoilt our stay. I did request another room but one was not available until the last night of our stay and it was not worth the effort of repacking everything.

Would advise that another hotel be booked in the Gueliz area there are other options within a similar price range.

Room Tip: Room on fifth floor as lower floor rooms are very noisy
