Ibis Marrakech Centre Gare

Reviewed 4 January 2009

Was looking to book a hotel for one night away from the crazyness of Marrakech as had to leave early the next day and this ended up being perfect for a number of reasons:
1. Its just around the corner from the superb new train station
2. Its also on the road to the airport
3. Its a 10 minute (30 dirham) taxi ride from the main square
4. Its Ibis so expect the usual good value for money quality and extras such as free wifi, pool, bar restaurant 24-7 etc....
All in all given the circumstance you could do a lot worse that staying here if you are not looking for a Riad experience

We were scheduled to arrive in Marrakech by train late in the evening and planned to depart early the next morning by rental car. The Ibis turned out to be a good choice, as our train from Casablanca was 1.5 hours late and we were quite happy that it took less than 5 minutes to walk from the station to the hotel.
Only one person was staffing the front desk, and he was trying to deal with the queries of three people simultaneously, with limited success. Once we were finally checked in, we ended up in a not yet renovated room on the third floor: as the hotel was fully booked that evening, it wasn’t possible to move to one of the renovated floors. The room was typical Ibis-style and relatively clean, but quite run-down. Beds were in good shape and the breakfast buffet was better than expected.

Overall the hotel was okay for a short stay, especially given the relatively low price, but I would not recommend it for a longer stay.

We stayed in this hotel twice in a week as part of a tour of Marrakech & the Atlas Mountains. We were a family of 4 staying in 2 double rooms.
The hotel is well priced and spotlessly clean. The pool is lovely and the gardens very atmospheric, with fruit trees and a lovely patio. The hotel is well situated next to the Railway Station and is well serviced by Taxis (make sure you agree a price before getting in). The bar is also quite good, but don't expect too much of a selection, given the Muslim country you're in !
The staff are very friendly and there is on-site security as well. The restaurant is excellent, spotless and well priced. It certainly doesn't 'rip you off' like most hotels in the Uk & has a wide span of opening times for breakfast, lunch & dinner. There is a wide selection of good food & drinks. Breakfast is buffet continental style.
There are also a few decent, well priced restaurants within a few minutes walk, past the Station, but take care with the traffic.
The refurbishment which others talk about would seem to be almost complete. The hotel is well presented, although there was some painting & re-carpeting going on on the 2nd floor, during our stay; the disruption was negligible.
The rooms are also spotless and quite spacious, although one of our rooms had a bit of flaking paint and some missing mosaic tiles in the bathroom (big deal !) . The rooms were changed daily and the maids even went to the trouble of folding the children's nightwear, not usually expected in a 2-star hotel !
There was the occassional noise from the Station (train hooters), but this didn't cause any problems.
Overall, we enjoyed our stay and we would definitely stay there again...... Bon voyage !

Yes this is an Ibis hotel so expect standard service, standard accomodation. The rooms on the 1st floor have been renovated therefore cleaner and with LCD screen. Dont bother with the other floors, small dark rooms way out dated. I advise you to have breakfast outside the hotel, there are many places across the road or a 2 min walk to the station will satisfy most. Having checked the breakfast at the hotel, I wouldnt spend 40dh on it. They have a swimming pool but it was rather cold when I was there but im sure its used a lot in the summer. Ideal location right next to main train station, 10 min walk to Gueliz area and other main areas. Watch your bill on check-out! I was charged for breakfast even though I never asked for it but they were nice enough about it and cancelled that immediately. Stay there if your looking for budget hotel close to centre

We stayed in this hotel for almost 2 weeks and really enjoyed it.Decent, clean rooms .Don't expect anything else than the standard Ibis-room,but that's okay for me. Airconditioning, shower (no bath),toilet, clean towels every day.We had a renovated room,so no stained carpets or old blankets, but proper and clean.Even though this hotel is situated almost on the train station of Marrakesh,we did not experience too much noise at all.The pool area was lovely,a very nice green garden, which was surprising to me,because Marrakesh is such a dry, dusty city.Breakfast is a buffet, but not so standard as the European Ibis-breakfast.Bread,croissants,cornflakes, yoghurt, fresh fruit but also moroccan pancakes,Danish pastries, fresh orange juice.
They have free maps, excursions can be booked at the reception.
Staf was friendly and helpfull.

On arrival at the hotel, my wife and I found the room to be a bit smaller than we were used to, and overlooking the train station there was some noise. We were tired after a long drive (and many police checkpoints) from Essaouira, so we took a nap.
On awakening we noticed that the air conditioner was not REALLY working (making noise but not cooling).
We called the desk, and a very pleasant maintenance person was there in less than 10 minutes. He assessed the situation and immediately offered a room change, but after our tip I was reluctant. He again offered and said "It is a bigger room"
Sure enough we were upgraded to a suite, very roomy and nice, at no additional cost.
The staff were all very helpful from the desk staff to the room attendants, even the parking man out front.
I would reccommend this hotel, but would reccommend the suite.
At 750 dirhams for the suite, well worth it.
As for the street noise, our suite was very near the main door and seemed well sound-proofed, I had Sheikh Ahmed Al Ajmy's recitation of Surat Al Baqara on repeat on my computer, so really what little noise there was was not noticed.
Like I said, outstanding value, deal with the small things, and Alhamdulillah.
If you want 5 stars, pay (alot more) for them elsewhere.

We stayed last spring in the Ibis Moussafir, Marrakech. It was really lovely, cause we could contract our excursions -The one to the Ourika Valley among them-, directly in the hotel. The guide was billingual -Eng & French-'what was really useful as my girlfriend is French!!!. The meals offered were copious and delicious. Overall prices really convenient. You are not to expect a big luxury from the Ibis network, but by checking in there you grant yourself an efficent service at a good rate. While being taken to the Medina and the souks, that can become quite dodgy, you feel safe thanks to the presence of the guides, that are local people.
