“Good time at Sofitel Marrakech Lounge And Spa”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 27 September 2011

This a large 5 star hotel. Maybe not Thai 5 Star, but 5 star and very good all the same. Close to old Marchesh. You could walk it but it’s only £4 in a taxi. Lots of pleasant helpful staff. Large good accommodation. Big pool. Hammocks and giant chess set in the grounds Nice restaurant. It seemed to be the social centre of the new hotels district. Non residents came in for lunch and dinner. Connected next door is a very nice Night Club with a live music dancing and tables for dinning. Down side? Breakfast is £20PP. but outside are two nice restaurants that charge £4PP A Poolside bottle of beer is £5. Baby sitting service that works! We loved it. It played a big part of making Marchesh a great holiday. Paid the hotel £25 collection from the airport for 5 people. Worth it!.

Well we're just back from a week at the Sofitel.

The beautiful reception area is typical of the rest of the hotel with a wonderful aroma and with all members of staff always willing to assist and with a warm response at any time of the day.

The rooms were a lovely size and the bed was large and extremely comfortable. Our room didn't have a particularly good view but we didn't care about it to be honest.

The pool area was extremely well looked after with plenty of sun loungers and sectioned off areas.

It takes about 15 minutes to walk to the souks and although we could have taken a taxi for a small price, we enjoyed the walk.

When there during the day we ate at L'Oasis, which is their poolside restaurant. The staff were always very friendly and although there wasn't a huge menu, there was a good mix of salads, grills and other items and the complimentary fresh bread and olives were delicious.

We are never worried about breakfast but we were aware from talking to other guests that it was very expensive and not particularly inspiring. On the occasion we wanted something we took a short walk to Extrablatt which is a cafe just a couple of minutes up the road, which was ideal.

We looked at the restaurants in the hotel but there were, as others have mentioned, extremely expensive. Fortunately there are a number of good restaurants only a short walk from the hotel and obviously loads more the further you go into the main town. We also found the local carrefour so that we were able to have large bottles of water and snacks in our room without the excessive cost.

I looked at the prices in the spa and they were, like the food, over the top and I ended up going to Les Bains de Marrakech which is fabulous as well as being a great price.

During our stay there was a yearly dinner / dance party for the staff which was held at the bottom of the area where our room was. We were given notice that it was taking place on the day with apologies from the management however having a band playing very loudly from 19:00 - 00:30 in an area where guests sleep isn't ideal and it would have been nice if they had given the rooms who were disturbed by the noise something as thank you, for instance a couple of drinks or a free lunch.

Two things that were were very pleasantly surprised about were that that wifi and the gym were complimentary, something that was extremely welcome.

We would definitely return there again and, like some of the other reviews, feel the only reason why I haven't given the hotel a rating of 5 is due to the excessive prices for food and drink

Room Tip: If possible get a room overlooking the pool.

We visited this hotel and all i can say is wonderful, wonderful, excellent. The staff, the food, the service, cleanliness, i would definitely return to this hotel. A wonderful selection at breakfast, helpful informative staff. The rooms are not luxurious, but they are clean and the bed is so comfortable, i thoroughly enjoyed the experience, great pool and great pool furniture and within walking distance to the souks and a main shopping area. My husband and I loved it and so did two other couples that we met, one on honeymoon and another celebrating their 27 wedding anniversary.

Beautiful hotel with excellent service but prices for alcohol and sot drinks unacceptable. £5 for a diet coke, £10 for a single baileys, whiskey, vodka. £5 for a half pint of beer and with top champagne £500 a bottle for brands that cost £50 in the shops equaling a 1000% markup connote be justified. i accept establishments have to make a profit but 10 fold on soft drinks and alcohol is sickening we ate out every night as could not live with hotel prices. A real shame.

My partner and I stayed at the sofitel recently on a trip to Marrakech. We stayed in one of the hotels superior rooms which have a stunning view of the hotel's pool and Marrakech's atlas mountains.
upon arrive to the spa resort you are greeted by every member of staff you see and there is a serene calmness to the place and a relaxing aroma that makes you feel at ease. The room's were finished to a high standard like every part of the hotel.
originally we planned to spend two days here before going on a journey to to the desert for a couple of days and then upon return we would stay in a riad but the Sofitel was so breathtaking we booked an extra 3 days because we knew it would be the perfect place to relax after the desert.
The hotel is very central, walking distance to the main square and plenty of restaurants in the local area.
however there are a few things which kept the hotel from receiving a 5 star rating from me. the first room we stayed in the bath was broken. at poolside the staff were in a world of their own, completely ignoring people and forgetting to bring people's orders. the room service is very expensive and the quality of food doesn't match the prices sadly. we also had a problem with birds getting into the balcony and messing all over the seating area. We asked three times for it to be cleaned and it was never done! Breakfast was also a disappointment
These are the only things that stop me from giving it the full rating that i truly want to give. it was a lifetime experience and I would stay here again in a heartbeat.

Room Tip: try ask for pool facing, plenty of sun and the other views are kinda dull and dark

From the second we arrived we was given outstanding service. We were greeted many times by the Guest Services & General Manager throughout our stay. This hotel is for everyone & caters to every need! The breakfast was amazing with everything you could possibly imagine & the pool & bar facilities were terrific! Our room was a Junior Suite which was very comfortable & had a lounge area & a balcony with views over the pools & gardens.

The Sofitel was in a superb location (5 minute walk to the main square) & the concierge were a great help for booking tours, taxis etc...

You will not fin a better hotel in Marrakech then this & fantastic value for money!!!

I can't wait to go back & visit plus theres a Louis Vuitton in the hotel too... Bonus;-)

Room Tip: A Twin Room will only fit one adult per bed!!

We ended up at this hotel by default, after having spent one uncomfortable night at a Riad in the Medina. That experience is a whole other story, but we were just keen to get to a decent hotel for the remainder of our long weekend stay, and the Sofitel served the purpose well enough! Unlike a Riad, you at least had a serviced pool area where you could escape the heat in the middle of day, with a drink in hand. You get a very comfortable bed in a decent sized hotel room with working air-conditioning and room service.
I found the staff polite enough but not really very attentive to your needs. You had to stand around the pool for 10 mins or more and wave down the staff to get you a towel, same too, if you wanted food and drink. I would have expected in a 5 star establishment that the staff would be trained to anticipate the guests needs, I don't think it acceptable to be constantly waving down the staff! Same too, in the terrace bar, having ordered a bottle of champagne, after the bottle was delivered to the table and poured into one glass, not once did they refill our glasses, we had to pour our own champagne for the duration of the bottle. Again waving down the staff to order food etc. There is plenty of staff, but again not using their initiative. It was quiet odd??
Anyway, the hotel was a much more pleasant experience than the Riad. Riads are NOT hotels, and are NOT luxurious, they are simply guesthouses with few if any facilities, which is not good at the height of summer.
