Just come back from the Sofitel. It's a lovely hotel clean and comfortable. My only advice is don't eat there and take your own alcohol is you want a night cap. It's extreamly expensive. A small glass of wine is £8.00 and I had a Pizza £10.00 I could of brought the same Pizza in Asda in the UK for a £1.00 it was nothing special. It's very central to all the attractions. A taxi ride from the Airport is around £14.00 and to the medina is £4.00 day time and £5.00 evening. You can get a fantastic breakfast for £4.50 (gourmet) in the road left of the hotel. (La Table du Marche) just ask the guides outside they will point you in the right direction as they all eat there. If your French is not good do take a phrase book with you. Most can speek English but some places the Menu is only in French.

we booked here for 8 nights over xmas... i have to say, it was all a bit mediocre & disappointing. i'd booked for a twin, but got a double on arrival. The rooms were quite stuffy, but we were told that air-con wasn't in use at this time of the year, but we were on the first floor & weren't too happy to sleep with the patio doors open (although we realize now, it was quite safe)

The TV was very dated & only had one English channel. The bed, on the other hand was super comfortable. The room service was very limited, although it was quick & food did arrive hot. If you wanted breakfast in the room, it's 150 MAD (£12) extra (this doesn't apply to rest of menu). was quite disappointed there wasn't a kettle or iron in the room. The bathroom was of a good standard & spacious.
most of the staff, i found quite cold & rude, this could possibly be due to communication barrier, but a smile wouldn't go amiss.

The hotel itself & all the public spaces (lobby area, outdoor pool, outdoor seating areas etc) were all very beautiful & relaxed & charming. The corridors were very dark & dated, but they were repainting whilst we were there.

i didn't think this hotel was upto a 5* standard.. i could go on, but you get the gist.

On arrival we were greeted by Leyla who was extremely pleasant and helpful throughout our stay. All of the other members of staff were also very helpful, nothing was too much trouble! The hotel is very clean and is located about 10 minutes walk from the most popular places in Marrakesh i.e. Jemaa el Fna, The Kotoubia and the Souks. Two restaurants; one serves breakfast and lunch and the other one serves dinner. One bar plus two additional poolside bars. If we are in Marrakesh again, we will certainly stay here. The best bit from ladies point of view is that out of the two lovely outdoor pools one is definitely heated as described on the various internet sites. Just perfect! Can’t say enough about it.

I was unsure wether to stay in a Riad or a 'normal' hotel, but opted for 'normal' so as to have the opportunity to escape the madness of the Medina. The hotel was both calming and yet busy, the size of it allowing you to make the choice of how involved you wanted to be. The resturaunts and bars gave great service throughout the day and the two pools, one heated and one not, had a very large number of beds, and 'baals' aound them, with a large number of staff to catter to your every wish. The Medina was a 5 minute walk away and there seemed to be a lot fewer touts and guides around since the last time we were there.
The function rooms were fabuloue but the bedrooms needed a little tlc, the carpets in particular are getting a little wotn. The beds and linen, however, were fabulous and the showers, over the baths, had good pressure and flow of water.
We looked at the newly opened Mamounia, but found it to be over priced and pretentious.

My husband and I just returned from 2 weeks in Morocco. We stayed at this hotel for 3 nights. It's a pretty hotel, but the service level is not what it should be.

The lobby is beautiful, but the desk staff are more than a little cold. We had a problem with our bill, and it took 45 minutes to correct. I think another 5 star property would have been more accomodating, but we found that in Morocco, the service in general is very forced. One often has to beg for service, and then it's given grudgingly.

The rooms are fine, but not spectacular. The hallways are a little dingy, just a little. And the TVs are old school (why Sofitel?) but the beds are nicely upgraded, and the bathroom was also quite nice and appropriate for a 5 star property. This place is a bit sprawling. Our room was a full 5 minute walk to the lobby, you may want to ask for a closer room.

The restaurant for breakfast was great. Yes, it's expensive, but what part of 5 star hotel do people not understand? The prices here are on par with any other property of its caliber. The bar doesn't have much to offer, and we did not dine in the upstairs restaurant.

The pool area is quite nice. And one does have to ask for service, but we found that once we did, we got served well. The lounge chairs are comfortable, the place is serene and relaxing.

There are things to do in walking distance from the hotel, but it's a bit of a walk. The concierge made a couple of suggestions I'd like to comment on: 1. Chez Ali Grand Spectacle-very touristy, but kind of fun in a cheesy way. Ask about it. 2. One concierge suggested that we buy souvenirs at the government authorized price fixed store, as it would be less complicated for us. SCAM. Not price fixed at all, but really beautiful things. If you go, prepare for haggling. Most tourists don't know they can haggle, and pay 5x at least what the item is worth. 3. Dar Rhizlane Restaurant, about a 5 minute cab ride from the hotel WOW! The best meal we had in Morocco BY FAR. What a BEAUTIFUL RIAD (actually, you should look into staying there) but DO EAT THERE. Wow.

We did get a guide from the hotel for a few hours, with a car. Though pricey, it's really the best way to see the city. Just for 2-3 hours. At the very least, one gets to ride around and see the local scenes. I've been to the tannery twice, and it is interesting. The imperial gardens are really not worth the visit. Spend most of your time just being driven, so you see the scope of the city, maybe see a palace, and then get dropped at the big square, that's where the life is. Especially after dark on Fri-Sun. Fun.

Marrakech is an exciting city, and the Sofitel is a good choice.
