Disgusting hotel. Birds flying all inside the restaurant leaving their droppings everywhere. Flies all in the restaurant. Food left to congeal under not so 'hot plates'. All 4 of us went down with food poisoning resulting in the doctor being called out 3 separate times.
Poor animation team during the day. The only entertainment of an evening consists of a guy playing the organ and trying to sing (badly).
Can't lay by the poolside without birds flying over and splattering you with their droppings.
Expected to keep pool towels for 2 week stay.
Bedrooms are very basic and lacking in cleanliness. Corridors smell of sewerage.
Absolute nightmare of a holiday and couldn't get home quick enough!

hotel is not Riu standards, no kids club ( we didn't take any but others were complaining ) No international drinks, no entertainment, Expected to keep same pool towel all week, moaned when you ask to change it. Only buffet reseraunt and a morroccan resteraunt not 3 as on web site, Building work ongoing so jackhammers from 8am onwards. Get your own knives and forks and drinks at meal times. Others staying at the hotel paid to be moved out due to the poor services at the hotel. Over run with Italians at weekend and they have a reserved area in resteraunt for meals. If its warm outside the waiters try to move the rest so the Italians can sit outside as well.
Give the hotel a few months and it may be more like a Riu but at present nowhere near teh standards required.Sound like we had a terrible time, we enjoyed ourselfs but it could have been so much better if we'd had booked the Palermie instead.

We had an absolutely fabulous time (7 days) at the Tikida Gardens hotel in Marrakech. The rooms were cleaned brilliantly every day, even the sheets were made into a pretty bow pattern every morning.

The bathrooms were always well looked after and they have a good policy of towels in the bath if you want them changed, or back on the rack if you're environmentally friendly and could use them one more time. The bathroom also came with a bidet, which is a nice touch, although the water pressure wasn't particularly strong.

Our room wasn't near the mosque, so we didn't get woken up (our room number was in the 400s, so the ones on the other side of the hotel might have been noisier).

Sandra, our Thomson rep, was very nice but focused mainly on the excursions, rather than the actual hotel. There are two restaurants on site, but L'Orangerie was closed and the other, Une Mille Et Une Nuits was only available one night of your stay (i.e. you were only allowed to eat there once during your stay).

The staff were all very nice and friendly, and their English was mainly good. However, three of the staff propositioned a member of my party several times, even though she was wearing a wedding ring.

Entertainment was not great. There was a bit of water aerobics in the pool, but not much. The pool is very nice but a little chilly. However, given that the temperature was about 45 degrees, the cold was quite nice.

Food was good, but a little boring. Not once did we get a bad stomach - in fact the opposite! We think it's because we ate so many eggs. They didn't change the food too often so it was quite samey. The waiters were a little stingy on providing bottled water though, even though we were all-inclusive.

A word of warning for female travellers - we were 'grope-scammed' at the Place Jamaa el-fna. This involved me being chatted to by a Moroccan guy and directed towards some berber music. My friend and I were then surrounded by a lot of guys and had to almost run the gauntlet through men who were grabbing and poking us all over in a most frightening way. This was on the Sat night we went. I think it's because we were two girls together without a male escort.

Overall, a fantastic trip: souks are fantastic, hotel was beautiful and we had an awesome time!

Room Tip: Try to get a hotel room in the 400s

We stayed at the Tikida Garden hotel and went with great trepidation after reading some very negative reviews! The hotel was 4 star in every way, lovely room overlooking beautiful gardens, everything was so clean. Service was tops, food great and loads of it, lots of tagines but there was chicken and chips and other things if you don't like local dishes.
Lovely pool, a bit chilly but we enjoyed ourselves. Nice and close to the Medina a £5 taxi drive away.
We will be going back for sure. We are very fussy about the quality of our hotels and this one comes well up to our high standards.

Room Tip: Virtually all the rooms overlook the gardens

We were expecting a standard Best Western 3-star hotel. What we got was a really good 3-star room with a 4-star pool and excellent service. The hotel website's pictures do not do justice to either the room or pool quality; it really does have a plush feel.

The only downside (for some) is the hotel's location in La Palmeraie. It's a good 5-10 minutes from the Medina, Djaam El Fina etc. and the taxis bills do rack up. However, the flipside of this though is that the hotel is a respite from the intensity of the Old Town.

Lastly, on the final day of our stay I (stupidly) left my SLR camera at the tennis courts for several hours. It was found and returned to me. I really cannot thank the staff enough.

Stayed at this hotel last year, read the write ups and it seemed perfect, it was our holiday of a lifetime.

The Hotel is beautiful, the grounds are perfection and the maid cleans and shapes the towels and mops through every day with Jasmine in the Water.

What a fantastic start.....advertised were the following:

Mini Bar (Empty fridge in our room) - I know what you're expecting but when I contacted our tour operator they returned my call saying this was 'a small bar area in reception'.

Food - ok, my family are meat and two veg or pasta/pizza, not particularly fussy but the food is very spicy and left our 12 year old with little choice. On the 5th day she became violently ill, closely followed by my husband. I tried to order room service as they were both too ill to leave the room and my husband is diabetic but was told they 'do not do room service' so can i applaud those of you who managed to get something delivered to your room! I ended up getting on the smallest minibus in the world and going into Marrakech to buy McDonalds as it was the blandest thing I could find to feed her.

When we finally emerged - the waiters found out about the illness - they told us to avoid the orange juice at breakfast - it's a sachet they mix with tap water.!! They had been drinking this on advice from reception staff to help them get well - took about 4 days in total and my husband still has problems.

Also it took us 8 days to find the creperie - hidden away and usually unmanned and not advertised at all.

I paid .....wait for it.... £4,500 for 10 days all inclusive - as i said - holiday of a lifetime, but i think Thomas Cook saw me coming, hadn't been on holiday for 10 years and this was a first for our daughter.

Whilst I was there I rang Thomas Cook who said Mini Bar & Room Service were not on the website (the one good thing was the free wifi and i took a netbook so i took a screenshot of the website for that day to prove it was! (Lucky as the next day it was removed)

I was also informed 'all inclusive' could be translated many ways, and to have snacks available all day was just one way and the hotel decided what it considered all inclusive to be.

I know it sounds like a catastrophe but for it all, we did enjoy it. It is a wonderful peaceful place and if we had known what we were going to receive instead of empty promises or misleading statements we would probably have enjoyed it more.

The market that comes to the Hotel is no more expensive than the souk and much less hassle! Leave your money in the safe for a walk around the souk and just soak up the atmosphere - do your gift shopping in the market, much safer. My husbands bag was slashed in the souk and we had a Moroccan guide.

Oh, the Moroccan Guide - outside teh hotel there are some guides - ours was called Jalal, he was wonderful and only cost us around £15 for a day around the souk,. if you have kids he is indisposable as he pushes away the more persistent people with a few words of arabic. Took us to a fantastic shop, off the beaten track of the souk that Brad Pitt, Ange Jolie & The Clintons had been to - photo evidence, not just their word! It was like an aladdins cave.

Also trip up Atlas Mountains is ok, breathtakingly beautiful, scary roads but long time driving on the straigtest road i have EVER SEEN, it went on for miles
Enjoy it for what it is

Room Tip: Hammam at the Balneotherapie spa - got to be done

im at a loss to understand why this hotel has had good reviews ..
after the lengthy check in we made our way to the room which was very standard ageing 3 star. we would have liked to get in to the room however it was still being cleaned ?? and the grumpy maid was not to happy to see us so we asked to leave our bags and left her to finish.
lobby has pool table and some board games that are in french . we ate spag bol for lunch in the orangie restaraunt that was at best as good as your mamma makes if your mamma is mrs dolmio sauce.
onto the pool area we thought for a nice lie down .. nope the BUILDERS had beat us to it and were there making the new cafe or bar or something that was being erected two metres from the pool. it was loud and incessant and meant there was absolouty NO way you could sit anywhere near the pool area. total joke really. so we went to the spa area . overpriced for what you get and how it all looked, just to take a dip in the heated pool is around 12 pounds . back to reception to complain about the noise at pool area (we also wanted to know why the pizza/snack bar was closed? we were told by a really rude staff member that the work needs to get done and what did he expect us to do?? and were told that we could order room service if we were hungry.. by the way everything in this hotel is overpriced.. its 80 dirhims for a panini and 25 for cokes etc and 30 for a packet of crisps so we asked for the manager and were told come back tomo .. we persisted and eventually he went off to fetch the manager.. the manager was a little more apologetic but still asked us what we thought she should do about the noise ? like it was our problem? eventually she offered us a free coffee and an upgrade to a menza room which we took a look at .. it was exactly the same as our other room ?? oh apart from the wooden table and chairs outside instead of plastic.
dinner food etc was ok but couldnt handle it for longer than a day or two
all and all pretty crappy. i mean i really dont expect that much just a little peace and quiet and the price is good for marrakesh 77 pounds for half board (dont ever pay more) but come with an open mind and lots of cash for all the hidden extras and dont expect the service you would get in 4 star places elsewhere... glad to leave..
