“First time to Marrakech”
Reviewed 17 August 2014

Simple really, very friendly and helpful staff, clean and modern, good food and drinks (excellent coffee) I had a wonderful time. I never go back to somewhere I have been, the world is too big and I only have about 60 years of travelling, but I would go back tomorrow.

Stayed at Tikida Gardens and had a lovely week. Entertainment staff entertained but were not pushy teenage kids kept busy with tennis, French boule, table tennis, beach volleyball, badminton and water polo. I just about managed the boule ! Stuck to the main restaurants as kids happy with the food there which was fine, there was a Moroccan restaurant on site but did not try it. All staff really friendly. Evening entertainment was fairly limited but staff really tried hard the musician in the main bar was amusingly bad but he only really provided background music. Went into the souks but wife not too keen on the experience, if you fancy a haggle without the crowds leave resort turn left and visit the real Mohamed's Choop ! (Shop) which is well stocked and good value.

We have just come back from a week at Tikida Gardens. We were a family of 5, older teenage children and 2 others, 22 and 20.

The hotel was beautiful, grounds beautifully kept, with gardeners constantly maintaining them. Our room was immaculate at all times and the maids were efficient and friendly.

Check in at the hotel was straight forward and we arrived at about midnight. The restaurant was even kept open for you to have some dinner/supper if you wished which was a really nice touch. I am an earlier riser, so went down before the others to read by the pool - there isn't a mad dash for the sun loungers, although the ones immediately by the pool go first, but there are plenty.

Entertainment team were really good, and always something to do if you wanted - tennis, volleyball, aqua gym, table tennis etc etc. The team would come and ask if you wanted to join in, but wouldn't pester at all.

Food was lovely, very minor criticism is that by the end of the week, it was a little repetitive but that is the only thing and we certainly ate our fair share. Delicious!! Whilst we were away it was my son's 18th and my daughter's boyfriend's 22 birthday. The table was decorated and a bottle of champagne ready for them, and the waiter brought a cake with candles and sang happy birthday.

Would be nice to have a bar and maybe some entertainment outside as a suggestion, but then in August it is extremely hot. If you are not a fan of very high temperatures, this is not the place to go in August - even in the evening at half 9 - it was still 31 degrees.

Overall - we all loved it and would definitely go again.

Room Tip: They were all good, and we had three with our size party. Hotel was good at accommodating 3 room ne...

We have just returned for a great and rather hot week at this hotel and everyone from my party had a fantastic time! There are however pros and cons, which are too be expected with the hotel as listed below:

Pros: -hotel staff were amazing! Always smiling and were able to help with any problem we had.

- Food and drink was great, not 5* restaurant quality but what you would expect for an all inclusive hotel.

-activities during the day were worth getting away from the pool side for. We regularly participated in the activities including tennis, French bowls, football, aqua gym and many more!

Cons: -pool size is on the small side for the amount of guest. And be prepared to get splashed numerous times if you are sitting right by the pool edge.

- the tiling by the pool also became very slippery and hot thought the day, would recommend walking around in footwear during the day.

- food was repetitive, basically the same food each day with a few dishes changed which meant a lack of variety.

-wasps!! And lots of them. When you finish your drinks pool side I recommend moving them away from your sun lounger ASAP.

However don't let these cons put you off booking this hotel! They are merely little niggles in the whole scheme of things! A fantastic hotel and highly recommended. I would also recommend booking the quad biking as this was one of the best experiences I've had! If you want a bargain go to the markets in the centre of Marrakech! HOWEVER, be warned this area gets extremely busy and some of my party found the experience quite overwhelming and intimidating. But was another experience to take away.

All I all I would give this hotel a 4.5 out of 5 but bumped it up due to only a few minor faults which won't ruin your holiday.

I visited this hotel with my family and boyfriend this august and was immediately greeted with a cocktail and told that they had kept the restaurant open for us, despite the fact it had gone midnight. Check in was fast which was a slight relief given the fact it took 1 and a half hours in security at the airport in ridiculous heat!

The rooms were spacious and plenty of room for 3 of us and the beds were comfortable. However, the air con wasn't that great but was cool enough if you had a cold shower after sunbathing.

After looking at other reviews me and my mum decided it was best to get up at 7ish to get the seven sun loungers that we needed for the day. However, we were able to leave it until half 7 to make sure we could definitely get the loungers and with no problems at all. People that had put towels on loungers without sitting by them had them taken away.

The pool was huge but could be very cold but refreshing after being in the sun for too long. The entertainment was great and the entertainment team weren't pushy at all and would come and say hello each morning.

The food was beautiful and considering I'm a very fussy eater, I managed to find something to eat every time. Unfortunately ate way too much!! During the holiday it was my boyfriends and my brothers birthdays and the dining staff went out of their way to lay a table on with petals, a candle lit, a bottle of champagne and a huge birthday cake and the waiters sung happy birthday to them in which most of the restaurant joined in! The waiters were constantly topping water up on the table for everyone and we're very polite.

The boys went quad biking during the holiday for their birthday and thoroughly enjoyed albeit the cuts and scrapes they clumsily received. They definitely recommend it.

Overall, all staff were extremely polite and helpful and the hotel was beautiful! We managed to see some lizards, beautiful orange dragonflies, and some tortoises within the gardens. The only downside were the sun loungers were quite cramped and the air con could've been cooler but other than that it was faultless! Amazing holiday had by all!

After a full day of travelling, it took us over an hour and a half to get through passport control as 3 flights arrived pretty much the same time!! Kids were pretty restless and bored, (7,8,11) Immigration cards had to be filled out for airport, hotel and on departure, so make sure you have a pen!! Once we arrived to the hotel the restaurant was kept open, check in was prompt and staff were great. The hotel grounds were beautiful and everything inside and out the hotel was always kept maintained and clean, all the staff here work extremely hard and try and make your staff welcoming, always happy, polite and great with the kids!! Entertainment could of been better, but the kids loved it and we made the most of our stay, making new friends and creating our own fun! Animation team always asking if you wanted to get involved in the lots of activities offered throughout the day. Food was great and always a varied choice we all are something different every day, Morrocan restaurant was beautiful, and lovely to eat at, cocktails and long drinks don't have a lot if alcohol, but we tipped and for the rest of our stay we're getting standard doubles. Free shuttle bus to the town which is a must for your Moroccan stay is great! Overall our family holiday here was brilliant, we all had a great time, and everything was as expected from a riu hotel... Oh hotel shop a little expensive and set prices next door to the hotel is Mohammad's shop.. He sells everything and can get the price down to less than half of what he says.. Bargain!!

Came here with our two children and great first impression when we were welcomed with a nonalcoholic cocktail and the buffet was open for us even though we arrived very late. Beautiful setting surrounded by lush gardens with cactii palms fig orange lemon and carob (tikida) trees attended by gardeners daily. Also home to families of tortoise which we enjoyed looking for! The staff were very friendly and helpful and the animation team lively. The kids really took to them and they always remembered our names! Enough activities to keep everyone amused table tennis, darts, badminton, tennis, petanque, water aerobics, stretch classes, cookery and Arabic lessons to name a few. My son is an avid footballer but was disappointed had to play with adults too so a bit rough. Food choice was plentiful breakfast consisted of a variety of egg dishes, pancakes, salads, breads, cooked breakfast, cereals, pastries. I always enjoyed mint tea served to me and pot of coffee on all tables. Lunch choice in poolside restaurant variable but bit 'samey' but salads always fresh and tagline/couscous delicious. Evening meals I enjoyed the most beef dishes turkey roasts very tender. Desserts scrummy! Staff very attentive and always service with a smile! Enjoyed relaxing in the air conditioned Zanzibar with live background music. Other bar had nightly entertainment Africa Night and Moroccan Night entertaining. Other nights a bit lacking - karaoke etc but there was pool table which kids enjoyed. Drinks too sweet for my palate and not very strong. Met some lovely people and kids made lots of friends with British & Moroccans and they were very safe to roam hotel. Thomson trips were amazing particularly Discovery tour - long day but our guide was so interesting and his emglish was excellent it kept us fascinated the whole time and traditional meal excellent! The 4x4 trip to Atlas Mountains was great breathtaking scenery berber village visit where family most welcoming and meal in Imlil. Our guide Hassan was excellent. Husband did quad biking. A must is a visit to Jemmaa el fna at night! One thing you must take is First Aid kit as daughter had foot injury which fortunately was attended to by French nurse couple on holiday. Also don't rely on wifi! Definitely returning!

Room Tip: We were in higher room only sounds from Call to Prayer early hours.
