We stayed here for a week through Thomson on an all inclusive deal and what fantastic value it proved to be with great food and drink all week and day long. The hotel's on the edge of the city but is a lovely calm retreat from the hustle and bustle of Marrakech. It's got very quiet surroundings - and you can safely walk out into the Palmerie - and catch the free mini bus to town until 6pm. The bedrooms are all comfortably furnished, clean, spacious and overlook the beautiful gardens. The staff are very pleasant. But best of all is the incredible range of food - with a huge buffet breakfast, lunch and dinner with stacks of salads and cooked meats, fish, tagine, etc choice (always with Moroccan choices too). Also cakes and fruit all day long and pancakes in the afternoon. The wines, beer, spitits and cocktails are available freely from 10 am-11 pm, and tea, coffee and water whenever you want. It's very relaxed and has largely a French clientele. There are lots of activiites organised by the animation team but no pressure to partake. The pool is large and there are 4 tennis courts. Also chance to hire mt bikes at the hotel and go on a ride in the Atlas Mts, which was wonderful - see www.Marrakechbikeaction.com .

We stayed in the Tikida Garden for 9 nights and had a pleasant, relaxing but unremarkable stay.

The positive points of the hotel were that:
-all inclusive means all inclusive, and all food and drink is indeed free.
-the gardens and pool are pleasant and quiet.
-it is not far from the city centre and runs a regular free shuttle bus throughout the day.
-the Moroccan dishes were pleasant.

The negative points of the hotel were that:
-all non-Moroccan dishes were poorly cooked and generally luke warm. Definitely not 4 star.
-lunch served by the pool was apparently very hygenic, till you noticed the birds eating the bread or from the serving spoons with the staff watching on. They would then either just tidy up the edges of the bread or stir the food with the bird-pecked spoons. Not exactly what I expect at a 4 star and certainly not up to the standards of the hotels I have stayed at in Egypt, Gambia, Nigeria and Kenya.
-we were hit by a major con within the reception of the hotel. A man claiming to be the Expedia rep sent a note to our room the night we checked in. The next morning he tried to sell us a series of trips at inflated prices. Luckily his paperwork was so ludicrous that we refused. How exactly did he know we were with Expedia and which room we were in? Expedia are investigating and confirm it was definitely a con.
-there is only one bar and the entertainment is dreadful (the same dreadful band every night at deafening volume).
-the rooms were clean with a decent bathroom but was rarther bare. Rock hard twin beds (in a so-called double room), ancient TV, no hot drink facilities. And we were in a superior room.
-staff outside of the restaurant were not particularly attentive. It took ages to get served drinks at the bar and there is no pool side service at all.
-if you don't speak good French this hotel can be hard work.
-taxi drivers and 'hotel sponsored' tour guides inside the hotel grounds over-charged horribly. They even tried to convince me 3 days in a row that the shuttle bus 'didn't take me to the city' or that 'I absolutely had to have a guide in the souks'. I expect this outside a hotel, not inside the walls.

Overall we were able to relax and recuperate and got to enjoy Marrakech.

Speaking of Marrakech, the city is fun but I would say doesn't offer much beyond a long weekend. A good staging post to explore the rest of the country though.

A slight surprise was that Marrakech is now practically Eurpoean prices. The night market was great, but each small tapas cost 30 dihnar (£3), more expensive than a Spanish market. A decent but not 'exclusive' restaurant would sell a starter for 50-80 dihnar (£5-8) and main course for 100 dihnar plus (£10). A set menu lunch not including drinks, even in the countryside, was 120 dihnar (£12), while in the city these were 150D+ (£15). The famous rugs were all selling at over £60 for even the smallest size, even in the set price co-operatives. This is not a problem, just something to be aware of if you are used to the deals of Kenyan and Egyptian shopping.

There can be a bit of hastle in the streets, with irritating little cons (kids taking you to 'better' places because a museum is 'closed'). This isn't much different from travelling in many developing countries, but it did get a little dull with its repetitivness and persistence. Having said that, once inside sites there is none of the dodgy 'tour reps' (like around Fort Jesus in Mombasa). If you have low patience for this sort of thing beware.

The people were very friendly, at first it was hard as most spoke French but they were so friendly it got easier.

The room was extremely spacious and the cleaner was friendly and we got whatever we asked for. The location isn't the best but they have a free shuttle bus that takes you to town with lots of diffrerent times. The reception people were really friendly but their English was not the best.

The breakfast, lunch and dinner times were wide enough to enjoy the luxury food and relax.

The only thing we were tricked on was when one of the porters showed us to our room and then stood in our room insisting we pay him for taking our two mini hand luggage, after this incident we did not let anyone do anything for us as we were always unsure of their motive but most people were friendly and helpful.

The hotel tikida garden was one of the best hotel i have ever been to, it is a beautiful hotel and very clean and well looked after. Me, my mum and my dad went on the 16th of febuary 09 for 1 week all inclusive and we loved it. For me it was the staff and animation team that make the hotel more enjoyable because they are so enthusiastic about what they do and have loads of energy not just in the day but at night as well. I am 16 and very shy and they even got me to get up and dance everynight and taught me how to dance which was great. During the day there are different things you can do i did the archery which i thought i would never do but realy enjoyed it. The maids who work at the hotel are so friendly every morning they would smile and say bonjour or hello to me on a morning and talk to me occasionaly which was nice to see. The pool is massive the food is delicious and at lunch you either have it inside or outside depending on the weather. The chefs and the waiters at night are so friendly and help you if you need it. Overall would definately go again.

A great all inclusive deal, with delicious fresh fruit and vegetables, Moroccan tagines, grills and fish of the day. Most guests French so house wine more than drinkable. Staff very friendly, but did not mind when not wanting to join in the activities. Plenty to do and 5 minute taxi drive to old city - guide recommended! Overall an excellent 4 night stay.
