“Definately not 5*, and watch out for spurious charges on your bill!”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 18 March 2014

Another of the Travelzoo offer travellers. Like the previous review, the paid for transfers via OHG didn't materialise (looks like they are going bust), so got to the hotel by taxi (150 Dirhums for 5 people ie about £12) - irritating but no big deal. Half board equals a buffet breakfast which is fine, and a buffet dinner which is pretty awful. A MUCH better option is to eat in the a la carte mediterranean reastaurant by the pool. The menu shows which items you can have at no extra charge if you are half board, and which you have to pay a modest supplement for. The food here is quite acceptable. BUT you might need to be ready to have an argument when you go to pay your bill, as they attempted to charge us for the whole thing. One of our group had to go and get the menu and stick it under the receptionists nose to show that is clearly said which items carried a supplement and what the supplement was. No apology from the receptionist who maintained a completely blank face throughout, and has probably over-charged many many people quite successfully. It took an hour to sort that!!!
The bedrooms were spacious, comfortable and clean, though ours had been just re-decorated (no problem with that!!!) and still smelt quite strongly of varnish. We were in Block 4, and judging by the bathroom I had a disabled room (no 4114), though why anyone with an ounce of intelligence would situate a disabled room quite so far from reception escapes me! As mentioned elsewhere the room safe (chargable extra) is within the wardrobe but not fixed, so a thief could just walk off with the whole thing - rather bizarre!
There is a nice outside pool and plenty of comfortable sun loungers, but be warned the temperature of the outside pool is bracing! Lovely when you overcome the initial shock, but clearly too cool for most of the people there last week. You can use the indoor pool (part of the spa) freely. That one is hot and humid and in need of re-decoration. There was a sign up stating that the pool would be closed in February for decoration work, but that has clearly not happened yet.
Our included free session in the spa was not forthcoming, and nor was our one fully included meal in the a la carte restaurant. Not sure whether that is the hotels fault or the company we booked through (Bargain Late Holidays). Lots of people have been having problems with bookings though, such as accomodation not paid for at all, so we were relatively lucky and buyer beware!
So, definately not 5 star, but a good 3-4 star level hotel, somewhat let down by the attempts to over-charge. An easy flat and quite interesting 20 minute walk to the main square and souks or a 30 Dirhum (£2.50) taxi ride. If you want a taxi walk out of the hotel onto the road and there will be some parked opposite vying for your custom. Agree the price in advance, and when they say it will cost you 50 or maybe even 100 Dirhums, just tell them you will pay 30, and they will probably accept it with good grace.

Booked this 4 night stay with 2 friends through Travel zoo. Included in the price was breakfast, free entry to Spa, meal in the restaurant for one of the nights and we pre paid extra for a taxi to pick us up at airport on arrival and return on departure. When we arrived in Marrakech there was no taxi waiting for us, eventually found out from another pick up official at the airport that the company we had been booked with were no longer in business but the travel company hadnt bothered to let us know or sort out an alternative (we had paid £66 for this) so had to pay 100 dirham to get to hotel.
On arrival at hotel we booked in as 3 adults but when we got to our room there were only 2 beds, 2 sets of towels, 2 glasses etc. Phoned reception who said they would put another bed in room, went for a much needed drink in bar, returned to room and 3rd bed was a child's! Went to reception who were unhelpful so queued to speak to manager (should have realized then a lot of guests were having problems with this hotel), told him as we had paid for 3 adults we expected 3 adult beds, he made a phone call, in French but we heard "toute suite" so went away a little bit happier, a good hour later nothing, back to reception, saw someone else and finally got the 3rd bed
But had to find a room maid for extra towels etc.
On our 3rd night we decided to have our "free" meal in the hotel restaurant, when the chit came to sign for we had been charged for the meal despite having the voucher from reception (which in itself was a pain getting but would take too long to explain), the price of the meal was crossed off the room chit but the next morning we decided to get a breakdown of our bill so far and lo and behold the 850 dirham meal was in it! This was eventually removed and a new bill done and we thought no more if it.............until our last day when we checked out. Final bill paid, all ok. Left our 3 cases with concierge in reception area and went and chilled for an hour before getting taxi (which we would have to fork out for although already paid for). Went back up to get cases, gone, concierge told us we had to go to reception to pay bill?!?! We were told we had to pay for the restaurant meal now as manager supposedly sent email that morning to say hol company said we weren't entitled to, asked for print of this email, refused. Sour faced receptionist said that it was normal practice for some guests to get free meal and others not?!?! Basically this hotel, or manager, are on the take and we assume because we paid original bill in cash we were targeted. Only when we paid the 850 dirham's did we get our cases back. I have absolutely no doubt, and especially having read a previous review, that it could have turned nasty.
And a final note of disgruntlement, we paid for safe for our 4 day stay only to discover on our last day that it could be removed from the wardrobe!!!
On the positive though we found most of the pool, cleaners, bar and restaurant staff friendly and helpful, the room spotlessly clean and modern, the breakfast great and the pool and grounds lovely. This experience though tells me that it is the management/reception that are totally dodgey and ruined this trip for us plus Travel zoo will be contacted by us for their part in this.

Room Tip: When reviews say it takes 10 mins to walk from their room to reception ignore! We were in furthest a...

My sister and I have just returned from our 4 night stay at this hotel. The impression of the entrance was good, with low buildings and big garden grounds. Check-in was slow due to
computer break down. My room was allocated to Block 3, with window facing the busy street, I could not sleep all night . Next day I went to the reception ,and FATIHA, the pretty young lady put me to a nice quiet room with a balcony facing the garden. She always greeted guests with a freindly smile .In the lobby, there was a Morocco man, making mint tea( free) for guests . Breakfast was fine , buffet dinner was O.K.The location of the hotel was in a posh area, in between the medina and the new town, 25 minute walking to either side .The hotel had a strong smell of smoke, but the place was well kept, with beautiful garden grounds and an inviting swimming pool. I will go back for the next visit..

Room Tip: Go for Block 4, rooms are quiet but a long walk from the reception.

My boyfriend and I have just returned from our 5 night stay at the kenzi Farrah. It was immediate from check -in that the staff were very rude and unwelcoming. We were first put in a room with two singles not the double we booked, when we questioned reception and asked to be moved he was less than helpful and tried to insinuate that's what I paid for, until we insisted to be moved. The room was ok but quite dingy and definitely not 5* I would say more like 3* the pillows were rock hard and hurt my neck to sleep on! We were also informed of a nightly tax of 27 dirhams each so be prepared for this.

The food was ok but very odd combos at dinner and not much choice really. The staff at dinner were some of the worst I have ever come Across, disagoranised rude and unhelpful, I don't think we got a bottle of water at dinner each night without having to ask 3-4 times. I got the impression the staff had a strong dislike for the English and even though we tried to speak in French they still were very rude.

The pool was lovely and the indoor pool was also lush and nice temperature.

All in all if the staff weren't so rude this rating wouldn't sound so negative!

We have just returned from a week at this hotel. We stayed on the 2nd floor in a large room overlooking the gardens and the outside pool. Disappointing that these rooms do not have a balcony (so beware if you like to site out at night). The Air Conditioning was not working and the Porter who took us to our room when we arrived told us "no cooling, just heating" which was rubbish considering it was 32 deg outside for 3 of our 7 days. Although the room was spacious and well kept with large beds they really need to do something about air con.

The Hotel itself is well kept and is in a good location with a 20 minute walk to the Medina or a cheap taxi ride away. The outside pool was freezing cold (great if you like refreshing dips), the inside pool does not look inviting at all.

We expected very high standards from what is tagged a 5 Star Hotel. This tagging is completely inaccurate in my opinion (3 star) at best. This is based on a number of other disappointments we experienced. We have been fortunate to travel extensively and have never had to "pay" for a Room Safe before. Beware, in this hotel you have to.

The Management really need to do something about some of their members of staff attitudes to their customers. On our second night we decided to spend our money in their Italian Restaurant rather than venture out for dinner. Food was pretty average at best. We waited 45 mins for our food. When we asked the Waiter "how much longer?" he gave my wife the most arrogant, rude expression and verbal comments we have ever experienced in any restaurant. Then it got worse, the time came to pay the bill and we found some slight differences to what we had actually ordered namely, they tried to charge us more for our bottle of wine than that printed on the menu. When we questioned this, the waiter stated that the menu was wrong and so we had to "deal with the problem as it was our's and not theirs". When we challenged this the Waiter went off to get the Manager who arrived and told us that the waiter was right and had the arrogance to take his pen and scribble out the price printed on the menu and alter it to what they wanted to charge us. By this time we had basically had enough of their attitude towards their customer (us) and said to the manager "this is what we are paying, it is your problem, you deal with it". He snatched the money from my hand and walked off. We vowed then that we would not spend another penny in the hotel for the duration of our holiday "and we didn't".

The final straw came when we were leaving the hotel to go out for dinner one evening. To exit the grounds from the main hotel entrance you must pass through the gates which are constantly maned by Hotel Security. We noticed 7-8 people standing at the gates but, the gates were closed. The gates were opened for us to exit but then immediately closed behind us. We spoke to some of the people who were not being allowed to leave the hotel through the gates. It was because the hotel were insisting that they had to pay for their holiday as the holiday company they had booked with had apparently not paid the hotel. Therefore, this hotel was basically holding them in and not allowing them to leave for the airport and their flights home. We felt helpless but worst of all, witnessed 3 Security Staff grab hold of one of the ladies and drag her away from the gates when she tried to leave. This really was upsetting to witness and totally dreadful behavior from the hotel security staff. It was only when one of the other guests jumped in and said "STOP" to the security that it did stop. We noticed that none of the hotel managers were present whilst all this was going on despite them being asked for. I only hope that all of these guests got to their flights in time. I would like to think that some of them will add their own reviews about this terrible episode.

Although Marrakesh is generally a friendly and very interesting and historical place to visit, we will never return to this hotel next time we want to visit.

Overall an extremely disappointing hotel to stay in

We stayed at the Kenzi Farah on a recent tour of Morocco. It is located along a lovely, French built boulevard, a pleasant 30 minute walk from the medina, souks,  and plaza. The hotel is very modern and stylish. There are some infrastructure issues with heating and cooling, however. Our visit in early March coincided with temperatures twenty degrees higher than normal. The hotel can not switch back and forth between heating and cooling systems easily. So, they wait till May to switch from the heating system to cooling system. As our room faced the front of the hotel, we had afternoon sun and lots of street noise through the night through our open window. Our room temperature was still extremely uncomfortable. The hallways and lobby were always at proper temperature..guess we could have taken the bedding there! If you have control over your room location, ask for one facing the pool. The pool area and park like green space behind the hotel is beautiful. welcoming, and very comfortable.  The breakfast buffet had a good variety of breakfast items. Omelets were the tastiest, especially if you gave the omelet maker some butter to use instead of the standard oil can.  When we left the hotel, about 1/3 of the group were brought back for bogus charges, all of which were dropped after signing something saying we did not use the mini bar. We also booked a horse and carriage ride a block away from the hotel. After some negotiations and walking away, the driver finally agreed to 150 dirhams for an hour ride. He dropped us near one of the entrances to the medina near a restaurant we wanted to try.  After two sleepless night here, it is very hard to give this hotel a fair star ranking. If we were comfortable, this would be four stars. Our friends had a room in a back wing overlooking the pool and were comfortable. If you are in Marrakech during seasonal  weather, it is just fine. Wifi, except the lobby, is most frustrating..connection is momentary.

I was at this hotel as a par of a Gate 1 tour. At first I thought the hotel was too far from the Medina and Square, but later I realized that it was very well placed in the high rent hotel area.

This hotel is not a top drawer place, but it was a very nice three night stay. The room was clean and well arranged and reminded me of a Holiday Inn or Best Western type room in the U.S. My room was located in the back building on the 4th floor. The air was not operating yet (too early in the season for a/c), but by opening the window the room cooled quickly.

The grounds were well kept with a nice pool area and some gardens - reminded me of a place I once stayed in Scottsdale. There wee signs of some renovation to sidewalks evident, so they are trying to keep the place up. The lobby and gated entrance were appreciated by most on the tour, and there is a cab stop dorectly across the street.

The breakfast was OK. A wide variety of breads, fruit, veggies, etc. Long line for omellets. My only issue was that each time I left te table (leaving my jacket, etc., they would take my coffee caraf andit would take over five minutes to get a replacement. I think they don't have enough available for the size of dining room - so always leave a person at the table to guard the pot if you need your morning joe. The fresh OJ was great.

The location was a bit of a walk to the Medina and then on to the square, but it is a walk through a safe and attractive neighborhood. The advantage of the location is that you can also easily walk to the olive grove park south of town and also up the Avenue Mhmd.V (a great stroll) into the modern part of town. I walked all the way up to the train station and then across and over to the north end of the Medina, through the square, and back to the hotel on our free day - a nice way to see a cross secion of the city.

Overall a good hotel an introduction to Morocco. But there were better ones (and not so good ones) later in the trip. A solid rating of 3 dots.
