The Le Gallia Hotel is located within a 5 minute walk of the square. It is situated in an alley away from the noise and activites of Djemma el Fna, yet within walking distance to great food, shopping and activities of Djemma el Fna.

The interior of the hotel is decorated in traditional Moroccan decor. There is original Morrocan tile on the floor, ceiling and staircase of the hotel. All of the room face out into an open courtyard with a beautiful fountain.

A traditional breakfast is served each morning, including Moroccan pancakes, croissants, coffee, tea and orange juice. The staff is also very nice and helpful.

Excellent breakfast on the delightful roof terrace. Two lovely small inner courtyards. Friendly staff. Room fine. Bed on firm side. Bathroom fine. Quiet. And just 70 metres down the very narrow alley (the Rue Recette) off a main pedestrian shopping/restaurant street leading to the central famous square. Close to the Place Foucauld where the local no. 19 coach/bus from the airport, half-hourly, terminates - so fairly easy to find the Gallia - with a decent Rough Guide city street map. Several cats and dogs belonging to the hotel staff wander around. Better if you like animals!

We spent a great 4 nights here in September 2009. The staff were friendly and welcoming and the room was great. I recommend asking for a room on the terrace, which is lovely. The hotel is in the medina, literally 5 minutes from the incredible Djema el Fna - excellent for strolling, shopping and eating out - and round the corner from the wonderful Patisserie des Princes, which is well worth a visit. For the cost, it's hard to fault, although as with many places in Morocco, there wasn't a bath plug in the room, so bring your own!

We had Room 19 on the top floor, a bit of a mission with suitcases but kind man carried them for us on way up The room had 3 single beds, Room 18 has a double..The terrace was pleasant to sit on in the evening and have a glass of wine and chat to other guests. breakfast was not until 8.30 which was not a problem for us but could be for others.Staff were friendly and helpful, quiet but very close to the main square. Nice breakfasts served on individual trays. Would definitely recommend.

The rooms are all different, I have stayed in 10 and 12 and enjoyed both. The staff are friendly and very helpful. Breakfast is very simple, but of a good quality. My girlfriend said the coffee was the best she has ever had. We ate breakfast outside surrounded by wonderful mosaic tiles and a lot of cats. The roof garden is a wonderful place to relax in the evening, while listening to the people being called to prayer.
The most important thing about the hotel is the peace. Once you step outside the front door there will be somebody trying to persuade you to look in their shop or to eat in their restaurant every five seconds and this starts just three meteres from the hotels front door. It can get a little wearing, especially in the markets. The narrow streets are full of mo-peds dodging people and you need sturdy footwear to negotiate the streets which seem to be in a state of constant repair.
If you can face these things then Marrakech is a wonderful experience, much different to the other countries I have visited (over thirty) and not to be missed. When it does get a bit much having the Hotel Gallia to head back to is great. It is very close to the market, After 5pm the market place is taken over by food stands until 1am, do try eating here it can be very good. This really is a city that never sleeps, it is trully amazing. Once you are back inside the noise is left behind and a calmness decends.
One bit of advice: getting through passport control both in and out of the country took an hour. Lots of people on our flight had allowed far to little time to get through to the gate on the way home. Please get to the airport in plenty of time.
