We didn't stay here but had booked by phone and email hamman+massage treatments and dinner. I had printed confirmations and names of everyone i'd corresponded with. When we got to the spa reception, they couldn't seem to find our bookings but said they could squeeze us in at a later timeslot. What they failed to mention at that point or over email/phone was that the massage would be carried out by a man. We only found out when we went to look at the hamman. We found it highly unusual that a man would be giving a hamman massage to 2 ladies in a muslim country and curious that we were never advised of this fact nor told to bring anything to cover up. When we got back to the reception, they changed tack and said they couldn't fit us in for any treatments after all but we could stay there and wait till our dinner appointment (3hours away!). They never apologised nor offered any alternative. There were about 6 staff at the reception who just chatted amongst themselves while giving us condescending looks. We were disgusted at their behaviour and told them to get us a taxi back into town but had to wait for an hour! Imagine us sitting at the reception fuming for an hour and not a single explanation nor conciliatory cup of tea/water was offered. And this is a hotel that has a few private shuttle vans/cars at its disposal. The least they could do would be to offer us a ride back to town after all the inconvenience they'd cost us. Each time we asked where the taxi was, they kept saying it was coming. Eventually this taxi cost us 10€, five times more than what we'd paid to get there. No one walked us to the door, they just said the taxi was waiting for us outside.
This is a very expensive hotel and the Prada-decked guests we saw there would probably never read travel sites like this nor have any problems with the fawning hotel staff obsequiously tending to their every whim. Basic manners and common decency is obviously not on the staff's training program. Unless you have wads of cash to wave around, you'll probably be treated like a 2nd-class citizen.
The hamman treatments and dinner were supposed to be a treat to ourselves and we were more than willing to splurge to be pampered and fed. Instead, we left insulted and infuriated.
Doubtlessly the WORST experience we'd in Morocco and in any hotel in the world. You couldn't pay me to go back there.
