“5 'star' location”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 16 April 2011

We booked this hotel on a recommendation from a friend and didn't see any reviews until after it was booked.I have to say we were a little concerned after reading some of the recent reviews and came very close to cancelling the hotel but decided to stay put as it offered want we wanted as a family. So off we went with some anticipation but were pleasantly surprised on arrival and continued to be during our stay. The position of the hotel could not be better, our rooms were lovely and hotel/gardens a haven after the hustle and bustle of the souks and fantastic for the kids to go off on their own to enjoy their own experience in the market etc being only 2-3mins away. This hotel is a little rough around the edges (not top notch 5 star) but more then adequate and would definitely recommend it to another family.

The hotel has a wonderful central position and feels an oasis of calm after the madness of Marrakesh. The lobby chairs are old and tired. Our VIP(?) garden room had a chair with a stain on the side, the soles of my feet were black from walking on the tiles without shoes and the room needed a thorough clean! I spilt face-powder on to a window seat and when I tried to remove this with a damp towel - the towel was black!! Breakfast selection could also be improved and often the burners under the food were not switched on and tomatoes/potatoes were cold.

Staff in the Piano Bar were very pleasant. The saving grace was the superb staff on Reception. I think we will book a good Riad next time round.

Great location within the city walls. The main square is literally a 2 minute walk. An oasis to return to after activities elsewher in the city or surrounding area. Get a balcony room, its worth a little extra. Drinks are a little expensive, food in its 4 (?) restaurants is generally good. Nice rooftop pool with view of the Koutoubia Mosque about 2-300 metres away. Spa is also good and a little cheaper than many equivalent European spas.
10-15 minute transfer to/from the airport. Usual warnings about souks apply. The sellers are persistent but accept a firm no.
This was our second visit and if we go to Marrakech again we would stay here again.

This was a once great hotel (in the 1970's?) that now is need of a complete refurbishing. It is dark, dowdy and rundown. In the absence of a refurbishing, it needs aggressive and detail oriented housekeeping. The latter would include a scrub brush (vs. a mop,) a paintbrush and a serious effort to regrout and replaster, replace poolside turf,re plant flowers and planter boxes every six weeks, ect. Management should also find a new, and trendier lobby shop keeper, upgrade appearance of front entrance, better staff uniforms, and work to have neighboring cheesy souvenir stalls and hawkers replaced and or upgraded. Sound proof as there's a VERY loud mosque nearby. I suggest that the manager start by redecorating the lobby. It's very dated!!!
One good thing, the staff is well trained and friendly.

Stayed here on first visit to Marrakech and it was an ideal location, relaxing and peaceful. Excellent breakfast and good food in restaurants. Pool area well serviced and on a whole staff charming and helpful with the exception of brusqueness verging on indifference in one person at concierge desk. Would agree with comments about flooding bathroom - very difficult to have a shower without flooding the floor. Would return and would recommend though if you are not good on stairs make sure the lift situation is resolved - guest lift from main lobby never worked during our 5 days and infrequent tempermental service from other lifts .

I enjoyed my stay at this hotel, overall a great experience and I would visit it again. First, the location is ideal as you are a 100m walk from the main square. That was good as after a few hours of looking around the area, you could head back to your hotel for a rest.

The hotel has three pools, one in the main courtyard, another on the roof and a third in the Spa. The courtyard is a great place to hang out and enjoy a drink. The rooftop pool has a nice large deck with lounges around it and in February, it was heated as well. There is a bar at the top near the pool. The third pool at the Spa is used by those at the Spa. Several friends use the spa services for massages and such and raved about it.

The rooms vary in size, some of us had a single room and others had small suites. My only complaint about the stay was that my room was very warm. During the day, I had to leave the window open as the air conditioning system was not working - at least that I could tell.

The staff was pretty good although I found sometimes that the staff at the front desk was rather brusque. Staff in the Piano Bar and the restaurant were much nicer.

I stayed here with my husband for a special occasion on our first visit to Marrakesh and were not disappointed. Our suite was spacious and had a great view of the pool, the maid service was excellent and staff were friendly at all times. The location is really good, right in the middle of everything but once you are in the hotel everything is calm and peaceful. I would definitely return to Marrakesh and would stay in this hotel again.
