Until Ramadan ends - 28 July - you have the extraordinary opportunity to witness the Moslem religious prayer ceremony enacted by thousands of male believers outside the Mosque (the sexes do not mix during prayer). The call to prayer begins @ 9pm, concludes @ 11pm and the courtyard is transformed from a flat concrete expanse with straw matting to an undulating sea of the faithful who are surely feeling stronger following their post sunset feast after fasting all day.

Beautiful Mosque, looms tall over the city and best visited at sunset and night when it is lit up wonderfully.

We were strolling from our hotel to the Souk and happened to walk by the Mosque and very glad we did. It was very pretty and had a well kept garden. As being non-Muslim we were not allowed to enter the Mosque inside. However we were lucky as a Marrakech gentleman who spoke very good English, French, and Arabic was just in the area and gave us a very detailed description and history of the Mosque.

As a non-Muslim I was unable to go into the mosque, but our guide was extremely knowledgeable about the history of the mosque and its relevance to Marrakech.

The architecture and the call to prayer are nice but the novelty wears off as soon as you realise you cannot enter the mosque. Major disappointment in terms of things to do as you can see it in about 10 minutes and have nothing much else to do with it. On a positive note the view of the mineret suring sunrise and sunset is breathtaking so make sure to get a glimpse.
