As a relative "new build" Gueliz - part of the French Protectorate's attempt at distancing themselves from the locals in the medina - this part of the city has places worth visiting. There are many good restaurants for example, three supermarkets and the more traditional Marche Central. The main street, Avenue Mohammed V, is pleasantly tree lined with oranges and palms/ Here can be found several travel agencies including the bureaux of Royal Air Maroc and Air France. Specialist photography shops and a large opticians (Wrede) are situated here too. There are clothes boutiques and a small mall also. Side streets are worth exploring for additional bazaars and speciality shops too. The main post office (La Poste) can be found here too and the new residential/shopping complex lies directly opposite this, complete with fountains and pavement cafes. There are a few alimentations (licensed grocers) too and a smaller plaza with other shopping outlets. For those interested in buying properties, or for renting, there are immobiliers (estate agents) which can help. Doctors' and dentists' cabinet (surgeries) are located here and one of the best private hospitals, Polyclinique du Sud, provides excellent care. There is one cinema, Le Colisee, which shows a variety of films, normally dubbed into French and/or Arabic.
