“Getting lost is part of the journey”
Reviewed 14 December 2013

Try to lose yourself in the souks. You will always get out at the other end. Bartering is the culture. Start low. Sick to your budget and walk away if required. Leather goods are pretty good value and fake designer wear is in abundance.

“Fun day out”
Reviewed 13 December 2013

Fun for a day! You can practice your skills with bargaining!
be careful if you buy leather ... choose a good quality otherwise you will ate the smell when you will be back home.
I recommend to have a nice tea at a terrace and watch the life around you!

“Shopping Heaven”
Reviewed 13 December 2013 via mobile

Has to be the largest amount of shops, stalls, floor space covered with items in the world. The smells of the spices, the myriad of colours of the scarves and the array of pots, bottles, fabrics and bags is unbelievable. You can find anything and everything here, hand made shoes, bags, clothes of every shape, size, colour and style, furniture, rugs, carpets, curtains, tie backs, furniture, spices, beauty products including of course the famous argon oil in every quality from cooking to cosmetic, shisha pipes, tobacco in every conceivable form, chameleons, tortoises, snakes, jewellery, furniture its a shopping mecca or a shopping hell depending on how you approach it. Yes they pester you, yes they can be pushy but at the end of the day they are all trying to make a living and bartering is great fun, and if your price is too low they just ask you to leave their shop then as you leave they follow you and ask you to offer just a little more. As long as you dont pay anymore than you are happy paying then you have your bargain and they are happy.
Never accept the first price they give you if they start at 400 dirhams you start at 80 or 100 and usually end up at about 120 if you hold your ground. If they want too much then just go on to the next one there are so many to choose from just dont be intimidated.
One word of caution if you get out a map and appear lost you will have any amount of offers to show you the way best not to follow them as it always seems they are just being helpful but it always ends up in a request for money. Should you be lost just ask a woman or ask in a shop or if you keep walking you usually end up in the square. It is certainly an experience I shall never forget and yes I came home with some fabulous curtain tie backs, a shisha pipe and lots more. A word of caution if you do purchase leather goods make sure you smell them first as sometimes the curing of the hides has not been done properly.
It has certainly been an experience I shall never forget and one I am sure I will repeat.

“An experience!”
Reviewed 12 December 2013

The souks in the Medina in Marrakech are a warren of alleyways which branch in many directions. However, you are never very far from the centre of the Medina (Jemaa El Fna) so if you get lost ask a shopkeeper who will point you in the right direction.
The souks are a riot of colour with a great atmosphere, selling brass lanterns, handbags, carpets, leather slippers and jewellery.Don't forget to barter with these guys as they start off at a stupid price, but you can get the price down considerably providing you are persistent.
