“An experience!!”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 19 July 2014

V Good only for the experience...would we go back? Probably not thanks! Too much hassle to either stop and look or 'come into my shop' or ' want you want to buy'? It does get a bit much when you keep getting pestered!

“Once is enough”
2 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 18 July 2014

You need to go just for the experience but the people are rude and smelly, the streets are vile, the shop owners do not haggle but rather just get offended and the tour guides are all in alliance to rip you off!! Plus pee before you go because the loo is a hole in the ground which will cost you at least 20 drh to use!!

However go just for the experience because it truly is an eye opener!!

“Sense of Humour Essential”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 17 July 2014

You WILL get lost, but keep a sense of humour as far as possible. And when you notice the shops turning to residential properties or shops selling products for a local market it's probably best to retrace your steps, not keep walking for twenty minutes as we did. Enquiring of stall holders "La Place?" seemed to get us back on track. A smile goes a long way in the Souk and if you relax then the stall holders will engage in a bit of banter which makes for a great experience. My daughter could have been married off many times over! We bought curtain tassles/tie-backs for 50 dirhams a pair and lots of incredible fossils including some made into gorgeous jewellery, always at less than half the initial asking price. The best deals are made when you walk away, and if they don't chase after you then there will be another stall selling the same thing further on, so try again. The further you go, the cheaper it gets.

“Explore and Understand The Culture”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 17 July 2014

This Souk or Souq is of average size much smaller than the one in Fez but larger than Casablanca's. The one in Fez is the biggest and we think the best but the one in Marrakech is much easier to get around as you can get lost very easy in Fez. Remember this is not going to be like your home town market, nor the open markets in France or Italy, this is a very different culture, so explore and understand. It is smelly, dirty, has beggar's, lots of animals and shops. We walked from our hotel past the Mosque to the open market and then strolled through the side streets. Did some shopping, bought some lamps and shoes for decoration in our home. Had a good afternoon exploring then went back to our hotel.
