There's nothing not to like in the Medina - you can eat and shop like a king on a shoe-string - the food stalls which appear in the square after 7pm serve some amazing dishes. The locals can be lippy but it's in the nicest of ways - you'll never feel awkward in the slightest. We were family of four with a 10 and 13 year old and were relaxed throughout after getting used to the basicness of life in Marrakech. The souks are also out of this world - a blend between camden market and Life of Brian...! Don't hesitate to book in..!

First impressions of the medina are a little scary, but within a day or so we realized that it was very safe and quite friendly.

Crowded, noisy, but alive! This is sure a place you have to visit if you are in Marocco/Marrakesh. People, animals, Scooters, cars, bicycle mixed all together.
Avoid people trying to get money for helping find your way around, ask other tourist or try by yourself and a good map!

Love what the other reviewer said --"dirty and beautiful" describes the Medina exactly. Be prepared for an amazing display of humanity. The dress, the culture, the performers, the goods for sale--like you're on another planet. Be prepared to haggle for what you want to purchase in the souks. Our rule of thumb is cut the price given in half, then take 20% off that, then get ready to bargain a bit. And be prepared to shrug and walk away if your price isn't met...they hate to lose a sale and will usually come on down to your price, or close enough. The snake charmers, the henna artists, the people selling snakes and lizards and argan oil and spices and fresh orange juice and djellabahs--whew! It's astounding and exhausting, so when it all gets too much, go to one of the restaurants with a second or third floor terrace and relax over a nice meal. We DID eat dinner from one of the open air stalls in the open stalls of the Jemaa el Fna on our last night with no ill effects, but I was a bit nervous.

Getting lost in the maze of the souks is a once in a lifetime experience. If you go, embrace the experience--and keep a hand on your wallet, just in case!

There seems to be a medina in every major city.
The one at RAK is second largest to the one at Fes.
Rustic humanity at its finest.
