Wonderful hosts, Gilles and Dominique. I stayed there in April 2013 with 4 friends and it was the best place I stayed in after completing a trip around the world! It's in a great location close to the squares and mosques. The hosts can prepare amazing meals for you, are very knowledgable about Marrakesh, and really offer a pleasant stay. I will definitely be coming back!

My wife and I stayed at Riad Abaca Badra mid June 2013. The hotel itself is very nice and incredibly comfortable. As good as it is, Gilles and Dominique are even better. (Their English is limited and I speak almost no French but my wife was able to bridge the divide.) We ate an amazing Tagine dinner the night we arrived. They gave us great advice for getting around the city and Gilles even came with us to a local shop to haggle for the best price on some bags. They also helped us organize a dessert trek when our prebooked trek fell through. We loved the rooftop terrace as well.

I found Marrakech a bit hectic and really enjoyed being able to relax at Abaca Badra. Thanks Gilles and Dominique!

I totally agree with all previous reviewers- it's an amazing place to stay. Very authentic with amazing service. We stayed in many Riads during our trip but this one was definitely the best. Gilles and Dominique couldn't be more helpful! Thank you very much!!
I would like to mention few things which might be helpful:
1.If you're first time in Marrakech it would be much easier if you book a taxi through the Riad (15 eur from the airport) as it is quite difficult to find. The taxi driver will take you straight to the Riad's doors which will save you time and nerves.
2. If you are planning to go on a desert tour and you are tight on budget, don't bother looking online as it is quite expensive and not always safe. Gilles and Dominique have all the brochures in the Riad, the cheapest tour costs 650 dirham per person and is shared with other people (mini bus, 14 people max) and you can book it up to a day before. Just bare in mind that Zagora's desert tour is not an actual desert.
3. Cigarette shop is just outside of the Riad (marked with three circles, you can find these shops everywhere in Morocco). Prices are fixed (for example 32 dirham Marlboro Gold) but not displayed.

Myself and a friend stayed at Abaca Badra for 3 nights at the end of June and cannot recommend it highly enough! It was wonderful. Gilles and Dominique are incredibly hospitable and helpful and go out of their way to help their guests. The Riad itself is beautiful and gives you a sense of calm in an incredibly busy and bustling city. There are lots of places to sit and chill out and the rooms are lovely and air-conditioned. Our room was beautiful and cleaned every day. It's only 10 minutes away from the main square and Gilles shows you the two routes so you know how to navigate your way around (he also told us the best way to get back at night which was appreciated as being two blonde girls we were concerned about being hassled, but going the main road way meant this wasn't an issue at all). They also gave us a map and showed us places of interest and how best to get there again. I would certainly have Gilles and Dominique organise a transfer for you from the airport as Marrakech is a maze and I think you'd struggle to find the Riad yourself, and the transfer they organise is very reasable in cost. They have filtered water available so you don't have to go and buy bottles all the time which is a welcomed little extra as when it's hot you drink so much! The mint tea is the best we had in Marrakech too and is available whenever you would like it. Gilles and Dominique go out of their way to ensure your trip is special, and myself and my friend would not hesitate in going back - it really was a fantastic place to stay!

We have stayed 3 days in Marrakesh, and it was all perfect. The hospitality of Gilles and Dominique is excellent, they really do everything to make their guests' stay as enjoyable and comfortable as possible, whether it is helping to organize a camel riding trip in the desert, have a nap in the jacuzzi on the top-roof terrace of the riad, or they go with you to buy the best tea :) The Riad is clean, lovely, the food is amazing, and the atmosphere is oriental. If I happen to return to Marrakesh, definitely Riad Abaca Badra is the place to stay, and I will recommend it to whoever would ask my advice on accommodation there.

After one week travelling through the desert, we checked-in at this riad where we found the relax we were looking for. Gilles and Dominique are the perfect hosts, not only very helpful and professional, but also very funny. The place is really quiet and well located. Just 10 minutes far away from El Fna square. There is also a Moroccan chef who prepared a very authentic dinner for us. Simply great. I would definitely come back.

Muchas gracias por todo

I recently visited Marrakech for the first time with my father-in-law. We had such a lovely stay with Gilles and Dominique and I would recommend everyone to stay with them when they visit.
The Riad is a little difficult to find, but it is very centrally located in the Medina. We only found it by paying a local boy to take us there once our cab dropped us off. I would recommend taking up Gilles on his offer to provide a driver to pick you up and bring you there. But once there, Gilles and Dominique were wonderful hosts. They welcomed us by inviting us to sit down and offering us a cup of mint tea and Moroccan pastries. As we talked about our plans and what they recommended for us to see, they pulled out a map and showed us exactly where everything was and how to get there.
That night, we opted to have a traditional Moroccan meal prepared by their cook and served right in the courtyard. It was absolutely delicious- vegetable pastilla, tagine chicken with lemon and olive, and this desert of layered pastry, delicate sweet cream, strawberries, bananas, and nuts. It was really nice not to have to worry about where we were going to eat or how we were going to get there and we could just relax with a bottle of Moroccan red wine.
Before we went to bed at night, Gilles asked what time we wanted breakfast and whether we preferred coffee or tea. When we awoke, we went down to the courtyard to a table set up with mugs, fresh coffee, bread, homemade jam and honey, fresh squeezed orange juice, yogurt, and eggs made to order.
The Riad itself is exquisitely decorated. It was the little details that really stood out for me- rose petals on the beds when we first arrived, orange blossom shampoo, body wash, and lotion, a lounge area outside the rooms with couches and tables, and a rooftop deck with lounge chairs, towels, and straw hats provided for use. The rooms and bathrooms were large and clean.
I chose this hotel for the location and because of the great reviews. We walked across the street and got lost in the souks and then found our way to Jemaa El Fna square at night and easily walked the 15mins back. It’s a quiet, charming place in the hustle of the Medina.

Room Tip: Choose this hotel if you're looking for a bit of an authentic Moroccan experience with a lovely...
