“Good journey, lovely town”
Reviewed 13 June 2013

We booked the coach from the Supra tour coach station ( 70dh each way on the normal bus or 100dh eachway on the 'comfort' one (ie more room but not really needed) - but we were told ( I think!!) that we couldn't book a return there but had to book at Essaoura. We wanted to come back on the 6pm bus but when we tried to book at Essaoura we were told it was full and so returned on the 5pm bus. Apart from that we had a really good day. The journey itself is 3 hours ( with a 20 minute comfort and coffee or tea break in the middle) and is interesting in itself with the varying countryside, villages and buildings. The bus was comfortable and modern. Essaouria is a lovely place, the port area interesting and the fish stalls a good place to eat. There is an excellent beach area and the Chalet de la Plage also a good eating place overlooking the Atlantic. The town is similar to Marrakech but much much calmer and laid back and pleasure to walk around. A really good day out

“Great seaside town visit by coach”
Reviewed 24 May 2013

My adult daughter and I took a day excursion from marrakech to this lovely seaside resort. We booked tickets on the first class supra tours bus, 200dh return, leaves the bus depot [by the main railway station] at 9am and returns at 5pm.Journey time approx 3 hours with stop half way. The seats are reserved and very comfortable the bus is clean and there is aircon. The bus driver however is another matter. The driver is in a space below the level of the seats so if you have a seat at the front you look down on him. It was impossible to miss the nose picking and ear cleaning that went on. The driver seems unable to function without the radio on full blast with strident arabic music and for the last hour angry male voices in some kind of argument. A Danish lady directly in front of us asked for the "music" to be turned down it was only turned UP! We disembarked with splitting headaches. I complained at the office in Essaouria and changed our seats to ones at the rear of the coach for the return journey. This was a much better ride and the radio barely audible. I would recommend any traveller on this coach to opt for a seat towards the back. The town is lovely and very interesting. Lots of nice places to eat. I recommend Taros cafe you can sit upstairs on the shaded terrace with a view over the main square and the port, with the sandy beaches stretching away south. The food was excellent the best tagine we ate throughout our trip and great service. This resteraunt also serves alcohol and the long island ice tea was very welcome! You also can view street life from the balcony which on this visit included some young acrobats in the street below. Good choice for a day away from Marrakech.

“world-class shopping experience!”
Reviewed 16 May 2013

Because the medina was designed on a grid pattern by a French architect, you can't get lost in this charming souk. The shopkeepers keep the bargaining tradition alive, but aren't as aggressive as their counterparts in other Moroccan souks. Find the typical, tiny stalls; lovely boutiques and galleries; argan oil cooperatives; a colorful spice market; tons of berber jewelry; the ubiquitous, stunning, and fragrant thuya wood ware; etc. This was absolutely my best shopping experience in Morocco! Plan to spend the day!!

“If you have a spare day in Marrakesh, GO HERE!”
Reviewed 16 April 2013

Our bus left Marrakesh at 8am, arriving in Essaouira at 11am. We only had five hours here, and we would have loved to stay longer. A welcome, refreshing change form the craziness of Marrakesh and if you have a spare day, I would highly recommend it! The people in the shops and stalls weren't half as pushy as in Marrakesh so it was nice to experience. Paid a small entrance fee into the castle, and got some nice shots of the town architecture from the top, although its not too high.

“Seaside trip from marrakech”
Reviewed 4 March 2013

This was a very pleasant place tp walk around. We visited a craft fair which was interesting and had a guided tour. When browsing in the market it was noticably different from marrakech the sellers did not push quite as hard and the temperature was noticably cooler. We ate in a fish resteraunt recommended by the guide which was very tasty and not that expensive
