“Friendly people, not so sure of the location”
Reviewed 10 April 2014

Positives:
Beautiful decor, small Riad yet spacious large rooms, very clean, good price, the food is really good!, the lady that attents the guests is really nice and helpful

Negatives:
They don’t speak much English, the location is a bit hard to find and also is within the chaos of the market inside Medina. You can always take taxis to go to the square or other places, yet you will find yourself walking 5 minutes of narrow passages to reach to your taxi. The bed was a bit hard to sleep in.

A nice friendly Riad.

In hindsight, there is not much more that can be said about
Thierry's Riad.

Key points however...

10 minute walk from the square
And 20 from the majorelle gardens and the way to the new town.

6 unique and beautiful rooms all with individual character, perfect for relaxing.

Go on the terrace for sunset and get beautiful photos over the city.

Have breakfast every day rather than skipping and enjoy a lovely meal on the hotel at least one of your evenings.

Use Thierry's knowledge to help you out around the city.

Book a transfer through the riad as it saves hassle.

Use the riad to relax however possible after a crazy day in the city.

The place is stunning, tranquil and perfect for your stay in the city at a great
Price. Highly recommended!

Absolutely brilliant in every respect. In the heart of Medina, practically next to Medersa Ben Youssef and Muse Marrakech, short walk to Place Jemaa El Fna, and yet tucked away in a quiet alley (perfectly safe!). Once you are in, you find yourself in a beautiful courtyard with palm trees - an oasis of peace and quiet. Beautifully decorated in a local style and very clean. Our room was very spacious, with a large bathroom providing a number of shelves to put down toiletries – rare even in very expensive hotels.
But most importantly the owner. Thierry, went out of his way to welcome us and to provide us with all the information we needed. He arranged taxis, guides, booked restaurants, provided delicious local wine - just ask, and he will do anything. He picked us up personally from a taxi which had to stop a couple of streets away from the Riad, and dropped us off on the last day. His son frequently accompanied us to ensure that we would not get lost in the labyrinth of souks and little streets, and Fatima, with her most charming personality and always smiling, ensured that we had a fabulous breakfast every day, plenty of tea “on demand” during the day and delicious dinner when we stayed in for the night. Everyone was so warm and friendly that after three nights on our departure we felt we were leaving a family behind.

I won't go into too much detail as most things have already been said. I'm a 22 year old photography who went to Marrakech with my parents and we stayed at the Riad Matham. I had never stayed in a Riad before and didn't know what to expect, in fact to be honest I was expecting very little in terms of all aspects of the stay, especially seeing as it was so cheap. But I was wrong!
The design and decor of the interior Riad is well lit and full of colour, and after spending time in the hectic Marrakech is very cosy and relaxing.
The rooms are all differently designed, but are all lovely. A lot of time and effort had been put into each room and are a comfortable environment. Each room has it's own shower/toilet all of which are modernly designed (very nice) with hot water and great water pressure.
The food is colourful and tasty, in fact it was probably some of the best we had in our stay when there.
The staff are all helpful and nice, and treated us like friends - especially Thierry the owner.
Great stay and recommend to anyone.

Room Tip: I'd say to maybe learn your way around the Marrakech, as we got lost a few times…

A wonderful place to stay in Marrakesh - we hope to return! Very helpful to be met at the airport. We were glad to be able to have dinner at the riad the first night - excellent meal and saved anxiety about finding our way around immediately. Thierry and his staff were so friendly and we wholeheartedly recommend this lovely riad.

Just like the other reviews, this was an ideal choice for exploring Marrakech. Thierry the owner was always available to offer his advice, very friendly, and the airport transfer was essential. I won't repeat the other reviewers, but in a nutshell you won't be disappointed if you choose this riad. It's in the general area where lots of raids are located, about 5-10 min stroll to the heart of the souks, which meander to the main square, and far away enough to be very peaceful and quiet at night. We did our whole trip by foot from the riad, including walking to the Royal Palace grounds, and outside of the Medina to the Jardin Marjorelle. Otherwise taxis or horse and carts are available in abundance from the square! Rooms are spacious and clean, and breakfast was perfectly adequate. If you're looking for something different to a standard western hotel, this riad will certainly do the job. Highly recommend.

My wife and I stayed with Thierry and Fatima for a short break in mid February.
We reckon 4 days is just right for Marrakech and the time of year was ideal as not too hot and no bugs (Having spent several years in the Middle East battling with insects etc it was a delight I assure you!)
The Riad Matham is gorgeous, all the facilities clean and bright and a wonderful Moroccan atmosphere but keeping a flavour of the west.
It was a great idea (thanks Thierry) to have a cab driver meet us at the airport and then drop us where a porter trolley'd the cases to Riad Matham which was a very short walk through the narrow busy alleys bustling with traders donkeys and scooters all rushing about.
We had asked for a meal the first night as we were arriving late pm, the food was wonderful and plenty with desert and coffee too.
Our room? Stunning and spacious, with all amenities and en suite. We popped up to the roof where in the dark we could see the Medina (City) all around us and the sound of the main square in the distance - the sounds of snake charmers and acrobats, drums and clapping all added to the Arabic atmosphere.
Rose petals decorated the room together with ancient trinkets and a massive old wooden door to enter within.
WOW
Breakfast the next morning was fabulous with several types of local breads yogurt fresh fruit and superb coffee too.
Thierry sorted us out with maps and ideas for our day out and even gave us his mobile number just in case.... which thankfully we didn't need!
The main souk area is virtually all around the Riad Matham and the main square just 10 minutes ( or 2 hours depending on whether you wish to stop at all the eyecatching "shops" selling everything (even second hand false teeth!)
We had a great time staying at the Riad Matham you will not be disappointed, Thierry and the small team cannot do enough to make your holiday easier and comfortable.
We would love to stay there again.
Hope you enjoy it!
John and Helen
