“A wonderful and peaceful place in the buzzing Marrakech”
Reviewed 9 June 2008

Situated 10 minutes walk North from the famous Jamaa El Fna sqare (you just have to cross the souk to reach it), the Riad Farnatchi is an oasis of calm and luxury in the buzzing Marrakech.

From the arrival to the way back to Marrakech airport, we spent 5 wonderful days in the Riad Farnatchi.

- An exceptional service : always ready to answer your needs, gentile, full of marvelous advice for visits and dinners.
- An amazing suite : this is certainly one of the greatest suites I ever had the chance to stay in. Furniture, decoration, atmosphere...everything is chosen with a fine and sure taste, bathroom, shower are unforgettable, we had also a sunny terrace with a view on the medina.
- Fine dinners : incredible breakfast, inventive dinners : the first who choose the menu determines the menu of the day. We had 2 times dinners and had amost the regret not to taste all the possibilities offered.
- You can also book the hamman, have some massages....

We recommend this riad for all trip advisor travellers who aims at relaxing in an outstanding place.

Stepping from the dusty bustle of a Marrakech street into the Riad Farnatchi is to step from one world into another. One is instantly soothed by the sophisticated, yet welcoming tranquility of this gorgeous old building, right in the heart of town. Discreet, hospitable and luxurious - but never pretentious - the hotel reflects the caring touch and special organisational skills of manager Lynn Perez. She and her hand-picked staff ensured that our trip - a very special long weekend to celebrate the birthday of a close friend - was a joy from the first moment until the last. Comprising nine beautifully-appointed suites arranged around two courtyards, comfort and style are the watchwords. Allied to 5-star service, there isn't a thing I would change about our stay and I have no hesitation in recommending it to the most demanding traveller. If fate and fortune play their part, I shall return there some day - imshallah.

This place really is a haven behind the bustle of the souk. Run by delightful staff who are attentive, charming and discreet. They are led by Lynne who is truly lovely and hands on, she even gave me her own lunch one day! Great housekeeping, stunning decor, the carved stone walls in the dining room are gorgeous. The Hamman was fantastic, I had never had one before and it was fun. The rooms are comfortable and have great style, I loved full size Moulton Brown products in the shower, I think there were 6 or 7 varieties to choose from. I also like the layout of the suite, it rambled up stairs and along little corridors finally ending up on the roof terrace with it's rose garden and resident song birds
Farnatchi is well placed if you want to be in the old part of the city but you must be prepared to walk through the alleys to get there as all of the souk area is inaccessible by car. The Riad organised all out pick ups, taxis, travel etc and everything worked very smoothly and all the drivers were charming. I thought breakfast could be improved upon and varied a little but other than that it was a pretty perfect place to stay in Marrakesh. There is a good restaurant just around the corner called Le Foundouk which was among my favorite in Marrakesh along with Le Tobsil, they are both great for traditional food.

We thoroughly enjoyed our four day stay at Riad Farnatchi, located in the Medina in Marrakech. The riad itself was lovely and small (9 rooms and suites) and it felt like a beautiful private home. In addition, the service and food were outstanding. The General Manager (Lynn Perez) and the staff all went out of their way to make us feel at home and to assure that we had a wonderful time in Marrakech. The food, wine and service at dinner were so good, we cancelled our plans to eat at other restaurants in favour of the Riad's dining room. I am certain we will go back.

i went to morocco by myself,a lifelong dream finally coming true.I am a 40 ish single woman from Montreal.Needless to say, I was advised against it by a few, considering al the "usual" reservations some of us might have or experienced. As soon as I put my feet on the ground,I fell in love with the colors, smells, noises and craziness of Marrakesh.Incredibly exhilarating and fascinating,it is a jump in another time, another way of life.I used the services of "trufflepig" travel agency from Toronto and gave them carte blanche for the whole 2 weeks stay. From hotels to activities, I was completely in their incredibly organised and professional hands. They booked my first 5 days at Riad Farnatchi. As all other riads, it is hidden in a narrow alley behind a nondescript door. But as soon as it opens, you arrive in a beautiful haven of peace and quiet .Elegant and refined down to the tiniest details. But although the Riad's service, rooms ,cuisine , staff and general quietness that you revel in , once inside in the walls the heart and soul of the place is Mme Lynn...A fixture in Marrakesh, she is the one that made the trip. Extremely knowledgeable of all the right people and places , she has completely taken care of me and i felt i was in the best hands possible .Manager of the riad, she is far more and will make your stay an experience that woud not be possible without her knowledge and expertise. The whole week would have been incredible because of Marrakesh but her attention to the guests and her suggestions of all things in the city brought this trip to another level completely.....Feeling like you "belong" in the city, even if for 5 days....I called her, "madame lynn concierge extraordinaire" :)

While Riad Farnatchi is one of the most expensive riads in Marrakech it is head and shoulders above the rest.
The rooms are beautiful and our bathroom worthy of a review devoted to itself - huge bath, great shower (from which one could gaze at the sky/stars) separate room for double basins, lovely lighting and huge choice of Molton Brown products.
It seemed that every room has a beautiful balcony and the view of the High Atlas at breakfast is maginficent.
Public rooms continue the theme, and while pool is small it is big by Riad standards.
Service is exemplary overseen by Lynn Perez who is best desrbied in one of the guide books as a "can do" person.
The owner's 5 page guide to Marrakech restaurants and hotels outside the Medina is an informative and entertaining read.
This establishment really is a haven from the bustle of the Medina - calm, beautiful and quiet. We did not need the offered earplugs to counter the 5 a.m. call to prayer.
Perhaps the only downside was rather a solemn setting for dinner (good advice on the competitively-priced local wines) with food that was sound rather than what the rest of the place would lead one to expect.
Apart from this one caveat we found Farnatchi to be flawless.

Riad Farnatchi is the best place to stay in Marrakech old town. It's nestled amongst the winding back streets and is fantastically situated close to everything but at the same time provides a welcome sanctuary from the chaos.

The service was the best I've come across in Marrakech. Nothing was too much problem even though most things had been thought of in advance, even down to the Moroccan slippers by the side of the bed and hot honey and lemon when I came down with a sniffle. My room could have fit my whole flat inside. Beautifully decorated in tasteful Moroccan style. The highlight was having a bath full of bubbles in the enormous marble bath in the middle of our private courtyard.

The hotel is a traditional old Moroccan house based around a series of interior open courtyards. The main one is where you find the spotless, sparkling swimming pool. Unfortunately the weather was a bit too cold to go swimming but it was a lovely place to chill out in one of the beautifully decorated rooms around the side.

As a treat we booked a traditional Moroccan steam bath (hammam) at the hotel, followed by a massage. It was an amazing experience to be rubbed down with black soap, scrubbed and then douched with buckets of warm water. My skin felt fantastic afterwards and the massage, including hot rocks placed on my spine was the best I've ever had...and I've had a few!

The perfect end to the evening was a bottle of rosé and some cute and tasty canapés on Farnatchi's roof at sunset. We sat and chatted whilst watching the sun go down over the Koutoubia mosque and Marrakech's day drawing to a close. It was then a short walk to dinner at the exquisite Restaurant Fondouk just up the road, that the amazing, 'nothing is too much for you' manager had booked for us when we said we wanted to eat out.

In conclusion, Riad Farnatchi is the perfect spot for a relaxing break yet brilliantly situated in the heart of the medina with easy access to all the sites and sounds of Marrakech. I cannot recommend it enough.
