“The best place we have ever stayed”
Reviewed 29 March 2007

We chose the Riad Farnatchi from the Mr&Mrs Smith guide and found it to be even better than the rave review we had seen on our research. The building is magnificent with the very best of local artisan work, the interior designs are exquisite, the staff hand picked by Lynn the hotel director are the best staff I have encountered anywhere in the world, the food is true to Morroco and the backdrop of the Medina is astounding. All this made it special but the feature that tipped the experience into a stellar orbit was the care, understanding and ambition to give the best possible service by Lynn the hotel director. We stayed 7 days and she was our personal advisor during our stay and tailoring experiences to suit our characters. This was our first trip to Marrakesh and it will not be our last but this will always have a great place in our hearts.

Just returned from Morocco, where we spent a few days at the wonderful Riad Farnatchi in Marrakech. From the moment we arrived the staff simply couldn't do enough for us (bags silently whisked to our suite while we were given a tour of the Riad) and the place itself is stunning - a beautiful, sympathetic conversion of 2 buildings into 8 stylish suites, 2 sitting rooms/salons, 2 dining rooms and it's own hammam! There's also a heated swimming pool and a huge roof terrace with great (weather permitting) views of the Atlas mountains.
As we sat down to a welcome mint tea, the manager Lynn joined us and gave us a history of the Riad and an up to date view of Marrakech (it was 20 yrs since our previous visit) - as a resident of 7 yrs there's hardly anything or anyone she doesn't know.

There's no formal reception as the whole place is set up to feel like a house and we were instantly made to feel at home.
Marrakech can be chilly in January so we asked for an extra blanket, which wasn't just delivered to our room but added to the bed linen when the beds were turned down on the first night. It was completely unnecessary - when we returned to our room after dinner there was a roaring fire blazing away in the huge fireplace - and we only realised next morning that the rooms have heating pipes carefully hidden away behind decorative grilles.
The staff were discreet, polite and helpful - booking restaurants and even arranging to walk us there and back, the alleys being such a maze. When my wife became ill not only did they recommend a chemist, Lynn had us driven there and her driver explained the problem to the pharmacist and ensured we got the correct medication.
We travel a lot, both for business and pleasure and can't recommend this Riad highly enough. Lynn and her wonderful staff, who seemed to have a sixth sense (knowing when we needed a reviving drink or snack before we did) have created a real 'home from home'.

After 4 days at the Farnatchi it was difficult to leave, the place really had become our home. We can't wait to go back.

Riad Farnatchi is an amazing place where to stay while in Marrakech. We stayed at other Riads but we could only be disappointed: nothing can compare to Farnatchi. Why is that? The peaceful atmosphere? Yes, of course. The beautiful rooms? Yes again. The excellent food served at any time? Definitely. The service? Above all. What is indeed special about Riad Farnatchi is the dedication of the personnel and of their manager, Lynn. Not only are they extremely friendly and make you feel welcome every time you meet them but they will also fulfil every single wish you might have. This is valueless for travellers like us who need some rest and perfect service in order to recover from very demanding jobs. We will definitely return to such a heaven!

This was my third trip to Farnatchi - I have stayed there with friends, alone and with colleagues and each time I have found nothing to fault. It's easy to find somewhere really chic in Marrakesh - the city is awash with stylish places - but there is nowhere with such amazing, polite staff that make your staff really special. I also really love the new rooms - we arrived to a roaring log fire and a gorgeously cosy room but also had a fabulous roof terrace for when the sun shone during the day. I have receommended Farnatchi to countless friends now - it's one of the few hotels I have ever stayed in where you genuinely feel totally at ease and really looked after.

The Riad is stunning, rooms are spacious and luxurious. The staff is very courteous and attentive. However, for its price, we found some glitches that you should be aware of. First, we went during winter and our room was VERY cold, despite of having the fireplace on all day. The Hotel could not find an electric heather when demanded. Second, they messed up our restaurant reservations. Third, the Riad Manager Lynn did not showed up, despite of being there and having asked for her presence several times when we had problems at the Riad.
In short, very good Riad but not up to the room price it demands for the service it offers.

Riad Farnatchi is in a superb location in the heart of the Medina. The Riad itself is simply stunning. The Rooms are amazing, the staff are unbelievable, the Hammam relaxing and the food delicious. I would not change one single thing. The staff could not be more helpful and even offered to guide us to locations after they finished work. When (not if) my wife and I return to Marrakech we will certainly try to stay at Riad Farnatchi.

My husband and I recently stayed at Riad Farnatchi and had a wonderful experience. First and foremost, we highly recommend a riad rather than a hotel in Marrakech. Although we usually stay at 5-star hotels around the world, we most certainly would have missed experiencing the true culture of Marrakech, and its thriving medina, had we opted for a hotel. Lynn, the riad's manager, a delightful woman, and her highly competant staff keep the five-suite riad in tip-top shape. Not only is the place impeccably clean, it is extremely luxurious and architecturally beautiful!!! The place has a beautiful indoor pool area, a great roof top deck, and cozy, yet luxurious sitting areas. In addition, the amenities are wonderful! Our suite was stocked with fruit and traditional Moroccan cookies, bottled water, complimentary take-home djellbas and leather tassled slippers, a satellite TV, Molten Brown bath products and other great stuff. The food provided was wonderful and included pre-dinner canapes that were delivered to our suite every evening and a traditional Berber breakfast each morning. The clients are truly made to feel at home. You're offered cocktails, tea, etc. constantly and the entire staff always has a smile. On a scale of 1 to 10. I would rate Riad Farnatchi and 11!! I highly recomend the Riad Farnatchi and would absolutely stay there again. Check out the website!!--Mary, USA
